Re: [AI] Problems in opening Demat account

2016-01-29 Thread Tilakprasad Joshi
Hi!

When I wanted to have my Demat Account I didn’t have to face any
difficulties however they did suggested me not to take Online facility
and use a cheque for transaction purpose but I manage to explain them
that there is no security risk if they offer me Online Account, I am
having Demat Account with Tata Capital Securities.

Warm Regards,
Tilak.

Re: [AI] India's 1st Blind-friendly Train Runs Between Mysuru, Varanasi

2016-01-29 Thread bala9119
Sir,
In my understanding of the prevailing discussion, this is not the
problem from the government but us. it is indubitably true that
"single" solution is not feasible for the disabled especially for the
visually impaired. in that sense, the accessibility of Braille to one
is inaccessible to another substantial portion of the blind
population. as per Kanchan mam's view, it is now become very evident
that the problem of finding the right solution lies within us but
unfortunately, the so-called "primary stakeholders" are ruining it. of
course the government's efforts are appreciated, but an effort without
effective research leads to poor implementation and result. we,
including you, know very well that Braille is not the lone suitable
option for mobility.
cheers.

hello,
there are many such hotels offering pick up and drop from airport part
of their services. when i last visited this conference, i stayed at
the hotel called dada cottage near pahadgunj and during this
conference, they had also provided pick up and drop facility to the
conference hall by charging some nominal fair via it's own vehicle.
they do also have the good dining facility.

Hi Sanjay,

Technically speaking, you had two options: 1st was to request two
senior employees of the brokerage house to attest your thumb
impression and 2nd is to get it notarized, in which case brokerage
house can very well ask for the charges which they have incurred (try
and get an invoice for it as they are corporates and their notary
official should not have any problem in issuing an invoice). But if
you have opted for notary, the broker is not liable to pay any charges
incurred for the same.

Anyone can create an account and type in a restaurant menu. It is then
reviewed and published by us. This way we can grow the database very fast.
The "Submit a Menu " page on GFT website
contains easy to follow instructions for creating an account and submitting
new restaurant menus.

How to get Good Food Talks app?

If you have an Android phone or tablet then download the Good Food Talks
India app from Google Play Store
 .
An icon named Good Food Talks will be created on your home screen and it
will work like any other app.

On the iPhone, iPad and any laptop, desktop computer you need to open the
GFT website . Then use the "bookmark this
site" link on the GFT home page. It will create an icon on Home screen in
iOS devices and on the computer it will create a Bookmark in your web
browser. Next time you can use the home screen icon or the Bookmark to open
GFT.

How to find restaurants in Good Food talks?

After opening GFT, you have three options to find and read menus:

1. Click the "Find restaurants near me" button. You will be prompted
to allow access to your location information. Click OK/Allow. Now you will
see a list of restaurants with approximate distance from you in kilometres
and their address.

2. Click "Browse a list of the restaurants" to see listing of all
restaurants in alphabetical order.

3. Use Search option to find the restaurant you are interested in.
type a part of the restaurant name and click submit. You will now see a list
of restaurants similar to what you have searched.

How to read restaurant menus?

After you find a restaurant of interest using any of the three methods
listed above, click on restaurant name to open it. Now you will be able to
see its phone number, opening timings and the menu.

The menu of each restaurant is divided into sections for example Soups,
Appetisers, Main Course and Desserts. Tap on a section name to see all the
menu items inside it. Each menu item has price and description (if
available).

Screen reader users are advised to use the heading navigation mode to read
the GFT website. All important parts of the GFT pages are organized using
heading styles and visually impaired users will find navigation and reading
very convenient. .

GFT works beautifully with the Zoom feature on your device. Users with
Dyslexia may like to use the Open Dyslexic font option provided on home
page. More information on using this web app with assistive technology is
provided on the Help page .

Is Good Food Talks free?

Yes, Good Food Talks is totally free for everyone. You can download the Good
Food Talks app or use its website to read menus for free. Volunteers and
restaurants can upload their new menus free of cost. Currently the costs of
creating this web app and maintaining it is being borne by Saksham and Radio
Mirchi.

Re: [AI] Maneka raises objections to proposed Disability Bill

2016-01-29 Thread shraddha edke
Here it goes:

New Delhi: Union Minister Maneka Gandhi who is part of a ministerial
panel to examine the proposed Disability Bill has raised objections to
it saying that the bill does not lay criterion for determination of
mentally disabled persons.

“It (bill) does not differentiate between mentally ill and mentally
disabled person. But there is a difference between the two. If a
person is mentally ill like schizophrenic, how can he be given a job,”
Gandhi said talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function.

According to the present law on disability, three per cent reservation
for disabled people is mandatory in all categories of government jobs.

The matter was raised in the meeting of Group of Ministers (GoM) which
held its first meeting today to examine the Right of Persons with
Disabilities Bill 2014.

The GoM is headed by Home Minister Minister Rajnath Singh with Women
and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi, Tribal Affairs Minister
Jual Oram and Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thaawar Chand
Gehlot as its member.

Gandhi said the Bill needs to be worked on further before presenting
to the Cabinet.

The Bill makes accessibility a mandatory requirement under the law. It
proposes entitlement for persons with at least 40 per cent disability
to certain benefits such as reservations in education and employment,
preference in government schemes, etc.

In the case of a mentally ill person, the district court may award
guardianship to take care of him and take all legal binding decisions
on his behalf in consultation with such person.

The Bill was drafted by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and
seeks to replace the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities,
Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995.

It imposes a penalty of Rs 10,000 or imprisonment up to six months for
violation of any provision of the Act.

Re: [AI] Announcing the launch of Accessible Menu reading app - Good Food Talk

2016-01-29 Thread Prashant Verma
Dear Amar,
It will be great if you could approach Zomato on our behalf. Please use the
text below to create a write up for senior management of restaurants. I am
getting a lot of queries from users and need to devote some time to it. as
you know, I have taken this initiative totally out of personal interest and
I have to primarily give my time to DAISY Consortium.

For restaurant owners

Read on to find out how we can help you make your menu completely accessible
for people with visual impairments and other reading difficulties in India.
or click here to get in touch.

Ever wondered how visually impaired people read a menu?

The truth is, it's a huge problem!
There are more than 15 million people with visual impairments in India.
Their conditions range from those who are totally blind through to people
whose vision can't be corrected by even the strongest of glasses. And then
there are millions of people who due to old age cannot read small print or
read in low light.
As a responsible business house do you accommodate the needs of this large
section of the society?

Some restaurants offer Braille and special large print versions of their
menus but did you know that less than 10% of people with visual impairment
can read Braille?
And what happens if you change the menu more than a couple of times a year?

So how do most visually impaired people find out what's on the menu when
they go out to eat?
87% rely on a dining companion or waiter to read them the menu.
91% told up that being able to read the menu themselves makes the dining
experience more inclusive and enjoyable.

Visually impaired people are sociable creatures. They love food and also
like to eat out. And above all else, they value their independence.
Basically, they just want to be treated like anybody else.

The Solution?

Good Food Talks is a platform that empowers people with visual impairments
to access and browse
restaurant menus on their smartphones, tablets and computers in the way that
most suits them and their vision, whether out and about or at home.
 Customers can:

Listen to the menu
View it in a large text format
View it with inverted colours
View it using the Open Dyslexic font

Good Food Talks is and always will be free to access for all users. This
revolutionary service is already being used by hundreds of thousands of
people in the UK and now it is in India!

"I love Good Food Talks! I now feel confident going to restaurants with
friends. I am now able to read the menu and make choices for myself and even
order for others when I am throwing a treat. Earlier, much of the time was
lost in me listening to someone reading out the menu to me in the noisy
environment. And I generally made a choice after listening to the first few
items and always felt shy to ask for the prices."
Veena, Delhi

How do you get your restaurant on Good Food Talks?

You can yourself create an account and Submit your menu. Alternatively, get
in touch with us and we will take care of the rest.

Good Food Talk

Fundamentally two points:

1. Let's reach out to main apps in this industry like Zomato and ask them to
incorporate a feature which will redirect customers with visual impairment
or elderly people to this app for assisted menu reading.

Pankaj is the managing director of Zomato and can be reached out at:
pan...@zomato.com

I am happy to reach out to management level at good restaurants to begin
with -let me know your interest and appreciate if you have a ready write-up
to share, and once awareness is created, we can also reach out to small
restaurant runners.

2. Let's make it a point that wherever we dine out, we at least get a hard
copy of the menu either properly scanned or typed for submitting on this
portal.

Great thought and a job well done by you and team.

Regards,

I agree. Braille signage in public places is good.
Why do people believe it is a bad idea? And what is a better alternative?

Blind organisations can think only from their perspective. either
government or true representatives of disability sector as a whole cannot
have such a narrow perspective. Whether you like it or not, for deaf-blind
persons braille is the best option. Those who think having braille symbols
in public places is not a solution should do their homework again. Any
disability organisation which might have advocated braille in public places
have done so, considering the needs of all disability categories. Let there
be braille and audio. We soil our hands while reading braille symbols not
because of braille but because of uncivilised behaviour of our people.

Congratulations Shweta, Its good to read about your amazing feet in
the HT Today. Way to go! copying this report to the JNUVision group
and Access India.
http://www.hindustantimes.com/india/visually-challenged-girl-tops-pg-course-without-braille-aid/story-kt8hGT86KDgMAuyL07C0rK.html

A visually challenged Jharkhand girl has topped a postgraduate degree
course in Ranchi university and even cleared the National Eligibility
Test (NET), all without the aid Braille.

Currently pursuing an MPhil at the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New
Delhi, 27-year-old Sweta Mandal secured a gold medal in her masters in
human rights by using software that converts text to speech.

“I listened to the journals and textbooks. It helped me understand my
subjects,” she said.

Side effects from a radiation treatment for a brain tumour robbed
Sweta of her vision when in class 10. Despite the ailment, she managed
to secure 72% in her board exams by listening to recordings her
parents had made of her lessons. A scribe helped her write her
answers.

“Since I wasn’t a born blind, I could not learn Braille that well. My
parents were the greatest support for me. They gave me the courage to
pursue higher studies,” said Sweta, who will be conferred the gold
medal for 2011-13 by Jharkhand Governor Droupadi Murmu at the Ranchi
university’s convocation ceremony this Wednesday in which toppers from
2013 to 2015 will be felicitated.

Mandal completed her schooling from DAV Chaibasa, graduated from the
National Institute of Open School with 65% in higher secondary and
scored 65% in sociology from IGNOU
