Re: [AI] Captchas on IBPS.in?

2016-08-05 Thread Satguru Rathi
And, it is really disheartening to see that no discussion has happen on this
important subject while I see there are lots of mails which could have been
avoided. Most importently, the so-called NGOs claming that they are working for
the welfare of the blind, have also not innitiated any process to take up this
issue. It is not that this issue has suddenly risen, it happens every year. How
would one get employment if the process itself is not accessible? and we talk
about Accessible work environment!

We need accessibility after job but not during the employment process!

  Hi all,

As the recruitment for POs is underway and candidates can apply online for
the same, a very important issue comes of the Captchas! how do we deal with
them? there is no alternative “Audio” captchas and nor there is other way to
solve this. Webvisum plugin for Firefox has also stopd working with the latest
update of Firefox. Can’t we collectively write to IBPS to come up with some
solution? Does this not come under “Providing equal access” to all?

[AI] Daily Eyeway Alerts

2016-08-05 Thread Eyeway Helpdesk
Dear All:

Greetings from theNational Eyeway Helpdesk

Please, follow below the Daily Eyeway Alerts:

1. News

Braving incessant rains, hundreds of visually-impaired people on
Thursday hit the streets here decrying the State Government’s apathy
in fulfiling their 15-point charter of demands. The protestors under
the banner of the Odisha Students’ Union of Visually Impaired staged a
demonstration at the Lower PMG highlighting their grievances. The
demands included functioning of the talking book library set up at the
Training Centre for the Teachers of the Visually Handicapped (TCTVH),
Bhubaneswar, and Braille transcription project run by the Odisha
Association for the Blind (OAB), implementation of universal scribe
policy, implementation of three-per cent reservation quota in
employment, adequate hostels for visually-impaired boys and girls,
establishment of equal opportunity cells by different colleges and
universities, exemption of education fees for PWDs, opening of
adequate numbers of coaching centers for competitive examinations and
fellowship scheme for higher education. “Though 20 years have elapsed
after the enforcement of the special Act for the PWDs, nothing
tangible has happened as yet to the PWDs in Odisha. Starting from
education to service and health sector, persons with disability (PWDs)
are the worst sufferer,” alleged one of the protestors. Disability
activist Sanyas Behera said the agitation would be intensified.

Re: [AI] My Op-ed in the HT: Universities do little to enable the disabled

2016-08-05 Thread Pinkesh Tailor
Hi Avinash,
welcome back to the list...
Why can't we unitedly appeal the ministry of education to make
accessibility as one of the paper in every domain of engineering. This
will make the accessible India campaign a reality. This will also ease
the process of awareness. As young students would come out of
university's, they would be more sensatized towards the need of people
with disabilities. I think this can also be one of the area where your
contribution as a research student would help.
