Because people have been so kind and generous, I am able to continue
offering the Eyes-Free Fitness® workout programs for free. The
website, https://www.blindalive.com, is the same but it is a minimal
site. All programs can be downloaded to your phone or computer. There
are meditations, cardio, weightlifting, pilates, yoga, stretching,
stability ball, barre method, foam roller, and a balance series. They
are easy to download.
I no longer have a support team but you can write to me and I will
help you if I can.
I will be depending on continuing donations to keep this offering available.
If there are any changes to the website, I will announce it through e-mail.
I hope everyone has a peaceful year.
Good health to you,

Re: [AI] Currency Detector

2019-01-11 Thread Kotian, H P
Hi George

You would have seen in the news report regarding BGFI petition, the demand for
accessible currency is strongly pitched for. The demand is that RBI formulates
design guidelines taking into consideration the needs of VI persons.

We know it will not be possible to phase out inaccessible currency in one go.

Technology is therefore just an interim solution. By no means a final solution.
We are very clear and articulate about it.

Harish.

Another scenario: You give a Rs500 note to to a cashier at a store in a busy
mall. They return Rs455/- in cash. Rs200+Rs100+2xRs50+2xRs20+Rs10+Rs5

I take out my phone switch on my app and then start examining the currency one
by one. The ambiance sound is so loud that I cannot hear what talk back or
voice over is saying. Person in the counter and the people behind start
becoming impatient.

I believe as Vasu said, I would use the app to arrange the currency in my purse
at home at the start of the day but while transacting the app might not
particularly useful in many day to day situations. Agreed, no substitute for
actual accessible currency. Further the app is of no use to people who do not
own a smart phone. That could be a huge number. I am not trying to discredit
the splendid efforts put in by Shilpi and her team. I am worried because the
Finance Ministry is working on an app and thinking that it would solve the
problem.

I can't imagine the scene. I shall take the note from my pocket or wallet to my
hand, then scan it with my mobile, listen to it and then pay with this note. It
reminds me of a very famous Bengali story of the sixties by Shibram Chakraborty.

A bus conductor is brought for trial for slapping a lady.

Judge: Why did you slap a lady passenger?

Conductor: When I went to the lady for ticket, she opened a handbag. She
fumbled inside it for some time and brought out a small pouch from it. She then
opened the pouch and brought out a purse. She then produced a paper pack from
it. She unfolded the paper and produced a 10 paise. But by then I had moved
forward to the front side of the bus, approaching other passengers for
ticketts. She wrapped the paisa inside the paper, placed it in the purse,
placed the purse in the pouch, and then put the pouch in the handbag and put
the zipper in place. Five minutes later, I asked her for ticket agaij. She
opened the handbag, brought out the pouch from the handbag, ...

Judge: If you don't cut short, I shall give you a slap.

Conductor: See, sir, I am only telling you what happened and you are losing
patience. Feel my situation when it happened to me.

My two cents on a simple solution that I use:

1.  I use "BlindDroid Wallet" app  to  identify new notes

2. Every denomination note has a specific place / position in my wallet
and hence there is no confusion at all

My personal view. The app is a bad idea. At best it is usable when one is at
home. While transacting with the auto driver or at a shop or in a public
space, the blind customer and his app will test the patience of people.
Besides I believe it would make us vulnerable.

Hi All,

With all the conversation around challenges with the currency, BarrierBreak has
taken the initiative to develop an app called 6 by 6. 6 by 6 has 3 different
tools and another few are being built. The 3 tools are:
- Currency Detector
- Light Detector
- Magnifier

This app is currently on the Android platform and can be downloaded from the
Playstore -
https://play.google.noclick_com/store/apps/details?id=com.barrierbreak.fin=en

We know that some of you'll are already using it and we have received feedback
which we have incorporated also. We know that some currency notes are not as
well recognized like the Rs. 50 note and are working on this.

Instructions to help you get an accurate prediction -

- Hold the Currency between 5-6 inches from the phone.
- Place the Currency on an even surface or in a straight position in your palm.
- Tap on the screen to get an accurate prediction.

We have also made some videos to help you use the app better -

It would be great if you'll would download the app and give us feedback, since
we would like to make the app better. Please feel to write to us at
