[AI] Paper of Interest: Becoming cuckooed: conceptualising the relationship between disability, home takeovers and criminal exploitation

2022-05-18 Thread avinash shahi
Abstract
This article explores the phenomenon whereby disabled people’s homes
are being occupied (i.e. cuckooed) by local perpetrators and/or county
lines organised criminal groups. This study employs a qualitative
biographical methodology that collects data from disabled people who
have been victimised this way and practitioners who have worked with
them. The findings illustrate that social isolation, loneliness and a
lack of community services can create a space where the exploitation
of disabled people can flourish. We conclude by demonstrating that
cuckooing predominantly occurs at a local level, perpetrated by local
people, rather than by county lines organised criminal groups; that,
in fact, local cuckooing can predate county lines takeovers.
https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/09687599.2022.2071680
Points of interest
Cuckooing refers to an individual or a group of individuals targeting
a person with the intent of taking over their homes.

Cuckooing has gained recent media attention because of its association
with county lines, which describes how organised criminals develop new
drug markets in areas that have traditionally not had a drug problem.

The findings suggest that cuckooing occurs because disabled people
often find themselves socially isolated within their communities which
leaves them at risk of exploitation.

This article suggests that cuckooing is not just a method of
exploitation employed by county lines organised criminal groups, but
it is, more commonly, a problem associated with the exploitation of
disabled people at a local level by local people.

The research illustrates that this form of crime occurs through a lack
of adult services, arising because of nationally driven austerity
policies, and this leads to disabled people being identified as ‘easy
targets’ who have homes that are valuable resources/commodities for
others to use and exploit.

[AI] Sharing disappointment and seeking way ahead

2022-05-18 Thread 'Mohammed Asif Iqbal (IN)' via AccessIndia
Dear all,
As you recall earlier; I wrote on completing half marathon 21KM with
zero touch as blind runner only relying on voice guidance issued by
fellow runner accompanying me. I also did apply for Limka book of
record but they rejected my application as they do not have this
specific category. I send several email prior to event whould I
capture this entire thing on video or photographs. Sadly did not
received any reply but went ahead with application process.
Feeling very sad and I don't want to quit this mission. Any advise on
how should I deal with this disapppointment.
thanks and regards
Asif

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your mail. Apologies for the inordinate delay in
responding to you. While we appreciate your efforts and talents, we
regret to inform you that we would not be able to process your
application further. We currently do not have a category specific to
completing zero touch half-marathon distances and as shared on your
visit to our office, the complete video footage of the claim is not
available. Complete and uncut video footage would be an essential part
of evidence, in case the category was available. In light of the same,
we would not be able to process your claim further.

Thank you for your interest in Limca Book of Records!
All the best for your future attempts.

Best Wishes,

Re: [AI] any portal for Online medicine booking?

2022-05-18 Thread Avichal Bhatnagar
Following are the names of some medicine portals:
1. Pharmeasy
2. 1mg
3. Dhani
4. Apollo pharmacy
5. Netmeds
6. Mrmed
Out of these, Dhani and Pharmeasy offer great discounts; the discount
is really great on Dhani if you have their 1 freedom card.
Also, Apollo offers medicine delivery within 4 hours in many major
cities at a nominal charge.

2022-05-18 Thread 'Mohammed Asif Iqbal (IN)' via AccessIndia
Thanks Sameer for kind words.
You could visit their portal (bureau of Indian Standard) and creat account.
After log in search for 17802
Search result will indicate two documents part 1 and part 2.
I would be more than happy to share documents on this if Harish agree
to allow me to send attachment.
My understanding is that attachment does not go through this list.
Thanks and regards
Asif

[AI] #GAAD2022, A discussion on structured negotiation for Accessibility

2022-05-18 Thread Preetham Sunkavalli
Hi all,

First off, wishing all of you a very happy Global Accessibility Awareness Day.
To mark the occasion, we at The Visionaries are privileged to announce our next
event. We will be hosting a discussion on the possibilities of structured
negotiation in the Indian accessibility movement. Hear from Rahul Bajaj and
Kanchan Pamnani, two lawyers at the forefront of the fight for accessibility in
India. The discussion will be moderated by Tony Kurian.
Structured negotiation, where companies settle accessibility claims through
negotiation without lawsuits is increasingly receiving attention from
disability activists. How effective would it be considering India’s social,
business and regulatory environment?
Join us for this spirited discussion on Sunday, May 29th at 9 Pm on The
Visionaries Club on Clubhouse. Please send any questions to
psunkava...@gmail.com and do follow The Visionaries on twitter @vi_sionaries
