[AI] MS word table query
Hello team, I'm trying to create a table in MS Word but the content is behaving against my will. I want to prevent content from 1st column and 1st row spreading in to the 2nd column and 2nd row and so on.. I had tried to implement various techniques but no use. I have explored various settings applicable for rows and columns but didn' work for me. Any technique is welcome. -- What’s most important is to put the person first, the disability second Because we all are people first. -- Disclaimer: 1. Re: [AI] MS word table query
Hi, I wrote about this in my computer literacy training course which I designed while teaching in South Africa. Here's the extract you might find useful as per your query, but please understand you will need to know how to navigate dialog boxes and the ribbon menu using the screen-reader because at this point of the course we have already completed learning those things, so this is a little more advanced discussion: Creating Tables The easiest way to create a table is as follows: Go to Insert on the Ribbon menu, then control left and right arrow to the Table group box sub menu and press enter on it. Up Arrow to Insert table and press enter. Now you will land in a dialog box beginning with 2 edit spin boxes asking for the number of columns and rows. Tab between these controls. Make your selection either by typing or arrowing through the options. There is a set of radio buttons with "Fixed column width" selected by default. Change this to "Auto fit to contents". Tab to the Ok button and press it. Notice the table shows up in your document, and the screen-reader reports the number of rows and columns when your cursor enters into it as you navigate. The good thing about this kind of table for the screen-reader user is that the size of the cells changes to fit the contents as you add data into the cells of the table, so you do not need to be concerned about the size of the cells accommodating your input data for your sighted readers. You can navigate to the cells in all 4 directions inside the table simply by holding control and alt down with your left hand, then with your right hand, use your arrow keys to move through columns with left and right arrows, and through rows using up and down arrows. To edit the contents, let go of the Control and Alt keys, type in your text, and navigate the cell using the text navigation commands we have already learnt. Re: [AI] Learning Hindi, TTS and Devanagari typing
Hi, Thanks for the link from fifty languages. I downloaded the 100 lessons audio files and started listening to them. I suspect this will definitely help get me started learning some Hindi. I have great respect for someone speaking a language they were not using at home. I hope I will become even slightly intelligible speaking Hindi here in India. definitely it will take a lot of effort and determination, and one has to start somewhere: at the beginning! I also downloaded the Vocalizer voice for Lekha and tried changing my keyboard to Devanagari, but now of course I still don't know the Hindi alphabet. My sons who are fully sighted are learning Sanskrit for the last 2 years now, and they know Devanagari reasonably well, so they tried using my ordinary QWERTY keyboard to type but they could not figure out the letters on the keyboard. Instead they launched the On-Screen keyboard and typed Hare Krishna in Devanagari from there. Lekha managed to pronounce it properly in Jaws. Quite nice! Re: [AI] Queries regarding SBI credit card
there is no use of approaching ombudsman even if your card is rejected because of thumb impression. recently my application with axisbank was rejected without giving any reason. when i approached ombudsman, they replied that i gave incorrect pan number even though I have applied online and there is no chance of accepting incorrect pan details. RBI closed my complaint even without investigating it. Hello Madam, Learning to type in Hindi or any Indian language is not at all difficult. It only takes two or three days of training. In fact, native Indian speakers can get an idea of the keyboard in an hour. Regards. On 12/24/22, Yamuna Jivana dasa (Yogan) wrote: > Hi, > Thanks for the link from fifty languages. Re: [AI] Learning Hindi, TTS and Devanagari typing
Dear friends, While investigating, I found something that seems to work quite well for Windows platforms which is what I was looking for. It is a customizable key mapping devanagari keyboard that corresponds to QWERTY equivalents and variations are made using Shift key, Control Alt, and Control Alt Shift combinations. This is very nice for someone who knows English and only now learning Hindi, because you can use your knowledge of the English letters to produce similar sounds of letters in the Devanagari script using similar keyboard input. Quite nice! For instance, 5-minutes in English followed by hindi or vice versa. If you learn Hindi Braille, you can read some Hindi magazines and bilingual books. Regards. I don't suggest any other keyboards to everyone because you find Hindi standard keyboard of windows anywhere but other keyboards maybe not available anywhere that's why I prefer and suggest to learn Hindi typing on standard typing keyboard which can be unable in control panel of any version of windows easily. -- Disclaimer: 1. RE: [AI] MS word table query
Miner, Make sure the row "specify height", column and cell "preferred width" check boxes are un-ticked. these will always constrain your cell sizes in preference to the Auto size options. -Original Message- From: accessindia@accessindia.org.in On Behalf Of Minar Singh Sent: Saturday, December 24, 2022 7:02 PM To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Subject: Re: [AI] MS word table query for me not working. Re: [AI] MS word table query
In my windows 11 laptop with MS Word 2021 and Jaws 2022, it has never been a good experience dealing with MS word table. Specially at the time of editting the table, jaws doesn't announce full spelling of the word written in a cell at the time of editting it. I couldn't find any solution for that so far, therefore compelled to use Word 2010 along with jaws 2020 or lower version. I am facing another accessibility challange in Word 2021, that is relating to not highlighting the selected row and collum to make it distinguished from unselected content. In Word 2010, if we select any collumn and row, it shows in high contract to make it distinguishable from unselected collumns which makes an easy task for partially blind users to identify whether desired collumn has been selected or no. But here in latest MS Word, its not showing in high contrast or in white/yello colour depending on the contrast settings of the computer. Re: [AI] Queries regarding SBI credit card
Hi, In the Master Circular on Loans and Advances dated 1st July, 2015 it is clearly mentioned that "In case of all categories of loans irrespective of any threshold limits, including credit card applications, the lenders should convey in writing, the main reason/reasons which, in the opinion of the bank after due consideration, have led to rejection of the loan applications within stipulated time". Further, in the Master Direction – Credit Card and Debit Card – Issuance and Conduct Directions, 2022 dated 21st April, 2022 it is clearly stated that In case of rejection of a credit card application, the card-issuer shall convey in writing the specific reason/s which led to the rejection of the application. As per the above two instructions of RBI, all credit card issuers have to disclose in writing reason for rejecting credit card application. The above 2 circulars should be invariably quoted in written complaint to SBI Card at email id: servi...@sbicard.com In the email also mention that as per Para 10.3 of Master circular on Customer Service in Banks dated July 1, 2015 "Banks should therefore ensure that all the banking facilities such as cheque book facility including third party cheques, ATM facility, Net banking facility, locker facility, retail loans, credit cards etc., are invariably offered to the visually challenged without any discrimination". Persons with vision impairment cannot be discriminated against on the basis of thumb impression as per below two regulatory guidelines i) Para 9.1, 9.2 (Clause a), and 9.3 (Clause a) of Master Circular on Customer Service in Banks dated July 1, 2015. ii) As per Para 2 (Clause e) of circular ‘Banking Facilities to Senior Citizens and Differently Abled’ dated November 9, 2017 facilities offered to sick/old/incapacitated persons who operate their account with thumb/toe impression is extended to persons with vision impairment also. Further state that SBI Card is requested to issue me credit card as I am legally competant to contract. In case of non-compliance within 30 calendar days, I am afraid that I will be compelled to approach Banking Ombudsman through CMS portal of RBI for redressal of my grievance in accordance with the provisions of Reserve Bank-Integrated Ombudsman Scheme, 2021. Please also be advised that as per Para 8 of Statement on Developmental and Regulatory Policy dated October 8, 2017 Banking Ombudsman has been empowered to take up complaints if persons with disability are denied any banking service on pretext of disability.
