[AI] Queries regarding facilities and exemptions.

Dear all,
1. I'd like to know whether the blind employees are exempted from
biometric attendance by the Central Government. One of my
acquaintances is working in the Nuclear Fuel Complex.
2. I'd also like to know whether there is a provision for exempting
the blind employees from typing test for promotion to the post of LDC.
One of my friends is working as a multitasking staff in the Navy. I
know that the disabled candidates are exempted from typing test in the
case of direct recruitment. I want to know whether there is a similar
provision in the case of promotion as well.
Thanks and regards.

Hi Nishant,

I use a combination of blindsquare and google maps which usually works. The
challenge starts when you need to reroute on account of route closures etc. The
maps do reroute but it gets difficult to explain to the driver because many
times, google maps tries to bring you back to the original route.

Hello Pranav,

 Thank you for the response.

I find myself using uber mostly as well, but I did wonder how useful google
maps would be whilst walking or such.

To be honestly for me I expected a little better than what it does do at the
moment, could be just my phone and or the network in terms of accuracy, mostly
useful if you end up with an unhelpful driver or the like.

as for the detailed voice guidance After further investigation, it appears to
be a feature only limited to the US and Japan. Thought they would have expanded
rolled it out to other countries by now.

Cheers,

[AI] Invitation: Awareness Session on Gmail Standard View with NVDA

2023-11-05 Thread Saravanan K
Dear Friends,

I hope this message finds you well. As most of us are using Gmail for
our email communication, we have found the basic HTML view in Gmail to
be incredibly accessible to screen readers. This feature has greatly
facilitated our email management, making the communication process
smoother and more efficient.

However, we want to inform you about an upcoming change: Google plans
to phase out the basic HTML view within the next couple of months. In
light of this development, we are preparing ourselves to transition to
the standard view in Gmail. The good news is that the standard view is
also very accessible, and we can continue managing our emails with
ease.

To assist everyone in adapting to this change, we are organizing an
Awareness Session on Gmail Standard View with NVDA. This session will
take place on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at 7:00 PM. During this
one-hour session, we will focus on using the standard view in Gmail
specifically with NVDA, the popular screen reader software.

Session Details:

Date: Sunday, November 12, 2023
Time: 7:00 PM
Duration: 1 Hour
Session Agenda:

Introduction to Gmail Standard View
Navigation and Features with NVDA
Tips and Tricks for Efficient Email Management
Q&A Session
This session aims to provide valuable insights and practical knowledge
for NVDA users on Gmail. We are offering this session free of charge
to ensure that everyone can benefit from it. To participate, all you
need to do is enroll using the following link:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfGvuAwQ4vEd9cMB-jdiSa2rq_m8BtPLOJ9VSQ8OQSAMmHBaQ/viewform?usp=sf_link

Please note that there is a nominal enrollment fee of Rs. 50/- for
registration. You can conveniently make the payment through Google Pay
or PhonePe to the following number: 9916512402.

We will send you the session's joining link via email on Sunday around
5:00 PM, enabling you to join the session promptly at 7:00 PM.

Your active participation in this session is highly encouraged. It
will not only enhance your Gmail experience but also empower you to
navigate the digital world more effectively.

Thank you for your attention, and we look forward to seeing you at the session.

Warm regards,

Saravanan K

[AI] Inviting you to join us in our efforts to improve applications that enable people with sight impairments to identify and find their personal things

2023-11-05 Thread Gesu India
Hello,

My name is Gesu India, and I’m a PhD student in computer science at Swansea
University, UK. Currently, I’m living in Bangalore. My research focuses on
improving applications that enable people with sight impairments to
identify and find their personal things, as and when needed. Like, it can
help you find your favorite coffee mug kept between several other coffee
mugs, or help you find your earbuds if they have fallen off the table. To
improve such applications, we are recruiting data collectors from the
community to record videos of 10 of their things using our Android
application. Our app has been used and being used by many people with sight
impairments in India before, and it makes the video recording process very
accessible by providing instructions on how and where to place the object,
how to hold the camera, filming instructions, and audio feedback to inform
of the video recording progress. Once you successfully make a contribution,
you will be compensated via a UPI transfer or by getting an exclusive
service in the app! Currently, we are still looking for around 30 more data
collectors, so I’d like to invite you to join our data collectors in this
effort to develop a better AI system for your community! To learn more

2023-11-05 Thread Ashutosh Singhal
My friends and I have already requested this feature for Indian from the
Google Disability Answer Desk many months ago. If, you genuinely want this
Google Maps Detailed Voice Guidance feature for Indian users you can also
request and share from your side at

Please mind that most companies only roll out the feature or fix the bug in
any software when they get enough requests from the users including Google.

Hello there,
Thank you Aravind for the response.
I haven't heard of we walk will check it out.
Blindsquare I have seen demoed at a few places online, but I believe it
uses other maps to provide those directions and again is quite affected by
the accuracy of those map apps that it uses.
Does it work well in india given it's asking price?
Cheers.

Re: [AI] Navigation apps?

2023-11-05 Thread Nishant Rana
Hello Pranav,
 Thank you for the response.
I find myself using uber mostly as well, but I did wonder how useful
google maps would be whilst walking or such.
To be honestly for me I expected a little better than what it does do at
the moment, could be just my phone and or the network in terms of accuracy,
mostly useful if you end up with an unhelpful driver or the like.
as for the detailed voice guidance After further investigation, it appears
to be a feature only limited to the US and Japan. Thought they would have
expanded rolled it out to other countries by now.
Cheers,
