Re: [AI] White cane questions.

Do not fold the cane unless it is absolutely necessary. Folding damages the
elastic. Yes, it should be up to the breast.

  Subject: [AI] White cane questions.

  Hi all,
I have a few questions regarding the white cane. I am writing these because I
lost my vision at a later stage of my life and I have never undertaken mobility
training. I have learned through the trial and error method, and I have
developed ways that work for me.
  The questions are as follows:
  1.
What should be the correct size of the white cane? And does it matter if we
don't have a cane with the correct size? I remember reading somewhere that when
you stand, the cane should come up till your breastbone or something. Is it
correct? Or what is the measure to check what size of the cane is appropriate
for you?
  2.
How to take care of the cane? Or, what is the average life of a cane? I don't
know why, but the elastic which joins the cane keeps breaking in my case. Every
few months, the elastic breaks. Is there a way to replace the elastic in a
folding cane? Should we avoid some things so that the elastic lasts longer?
  3.
Previously, I was using a smart cane without turning on the vibration,
obviously. What I noticed was it had five folds and it was a bit thick.
Recently, the elastic broke, and I had to get a new one. I got a normal cane
for Rs 250, but in this, firstly, it is longer than my previous smart cane,
although it has only 4 folds, but it is still too long. Secondly, it is
comparatively thin. The issue I am facing is when I am tapping it while
walking, I am getting a jerk on my wrist, which never used to happen when I
used the smart cane. When I am using it for longer travel, I am getting wrist
pain due to the jerks. Please suggest what could be the issue and how I can
solve the same.
  Thank you for reading.
  Cauvery.

Re: [AI] Regarding Cleartax unaccessibility

2024-02-24 Thread Vedika Phadke
Hi,
As the tax return preparer, I would say income tax official website itself
accessible /user-friendly.
if not, they improve them (provided follow up from few individuals who are
continuously taking efforts to keep accessibility in the site).
If clear-tax is not responding, try its competitors.
it is just a suggestion.

Re: [AI] what is a VPA? can I use it in place of UPI ID?

2024-02-24 Thread Harshit Lohia
Hi Udit,
the VPA is automatically created when you sign up for UPI. UPI number
is usually the mobile number. UPI id and VPA are essentially same. It
is in the format AlphanumericText@UPIHandleOfUPIApp. For example:
1234567890@kotak for Kotak Bank UPI. By default, while signing up for
UPI, the alphanumeric code is set to your mobile number. However, you
can change it to your preferred text at the time of signing up.
Also, note that your UPI id/VPA is displayed when making UPI payments.

Re: [AI] Question regarding Pan Card

2024-02-24 Thread Sagar Verma

Hello,

In accordance with the Income Tax Act, generating a PAN using Aadhar is
equivalent to the physical card. I’ve been through a similar situation and
recommend filling the correction form. Your PAN will remain the same, featuring
corrected data. After initiation, the physical card will be sent to your
provided address.

Ensure to fetch data using Aadhar for comprehensive collection and correction
in the physical PAN, as I’ve done. Remember to input the same PAN; you won’t
receive a new number.

The associated cost, if I recall correctly, is around ₹100 for account opening.
Simply add your father’s name on your Aadhar. Use the correction link on the
portal, opting for the second choice to fetch details using your Aadhar.

Kind regards,
Sagar

[AI] Question regarding Pan Card

2024-02-24 Thread Vaibhav Bhandari
Hi Everyone,
I have a question regarding Pan Card.
To create a Pan Card for myself, I used the E-Pan service and created
a Pan Card which is linked to Aadhar. My question is that the E-Pan
Card does not contain Father's name and sometime ago when I was trying
to do my E-KYC from Paytm, they told me that E-Pan would not work and
I would require the Pan Card which also has my father's name.
Later, I was watching a video wherein the procedure to open Kotak 811
Zero Ballance Bank account was being explained and there again I heard
was a section where Father's name was to be written as it is in the
Pan Card.
These two incidents convinced me that I might require a Pan Card which
has Father's name as well in the future. So I wanted to know what
would I now need to create such a Pan Card? Is this something only
available in a physical Pan Card and not an E-Pan Card? Would I have
to create a Physical Pan Card now because I also saw on Google that
E-Pan does not have father's name? Wouldn't this mean that I would
have two Pan Cards - one physical and the other electronic? I am now
confused. Could someone help with this and explain to me if I am wrong
or not and clear my confusion?

[AI] Regarding Cleartax unaccessibility

2024-02-24 Thread Ram
Hi,

I am aware that many VI persons file their ITR through cleartax.
Till 2 years back self filing of ITR was free, and they charged only for CA
assisted filing.
Since last year, even self filing has been made a paid service and the charges
are as per the ITR form you use.

Clear Tax has revamped its website and at the same time compromised on
accessibility.
I have sent several mails to its support team pointingout at the unaccessible
parts of the website ,requesting them to make the website accessible for screen
reader users, but never got any response.
I feel if they are charging for their services, then the website should be
accessible for screen reader users too.

What next step should I take to compel cleartax to incorporate accessibility
into their website?

Thanks,

Ram

Re: [AI] "SBI ATM card is not eligible for visually impaired.

2024-02-24 Thread Vaibhav Bhandari
Hi Everyone,
I had found that IBA circular which Aman was talking about so I
thought I should attach it here with my reply as well if someone too
wants to have a look.
I do have a question though, would the points listed here be qualified
as suggestions or rules? I am a bit unsure on that. Also, does IBA
have the authority to make rules for banks?
Another thing, on page 3, this document talks about the fingerprint
technology which would allow the banks to store fingerprints in their
system which then could be used to compare the thumb print of the
visually impared person who has sent the check. If I am not wrong, it
is talking about that machine which is used at some places to scan
thumb print right? Also, I would very much like to know from those
people here who have been allowed the check facility even while using
thumb print as to how the procedure works and whether they also used
this IBA circular to convince the bank manager/employee.
I also tried searching for the circular dated 4th october 2023 as one
of the people previously suggested but was unable to find it. Could
someone perhaps send it here so that I too can have a look into it?

Re: [AI] White cane questions.

2024-02-24 Thread Vaibhav Bhandari
Hi,
The answer to your first question is yes, that is the right way. I am
saying this from experience because I have actually tried using a six
fold cane that came up to my coller bone. It wasn't easy to handle and
then I had to remove one pipe to make it a five fold one which came
close to my breast bone.
I also have a similar question to your third question so if someone
can answer that it would be very helpful. If gerking means that while
using the cane sometimes the pipes also move when you shift the
position of the cane, then I too have been facing this problem ever
since I removed one of my canes pipes and made it a five fold one. THe
problem is not extreme so I just wanted to ask from the people who are
using it, is this normal or should the pipes of the canes not gerk
even a little while shifting cane from left to right or vice versa?

[AI] Bhaiyya SSC, your website needs a "chai break" with accessibility!

2024-02-24 Thread Shahzada Saleem
Namaste, SSC aspirants and sabhi dost!
So yesterday, your boy with eyesight like a bat on Diwali decided to check
out the new SSC website (ssc.gov.in).
Imagine my surprise – it was like trying to find your chappal in a mela
blindfolded!
Now, the old website wasn't exactly a Bollywood blockbuster, but at least
it let visually impaired folks like me use screen readers and crack those
captchas like we crack samosas.
Now, those captchas are gone, replaced by a digital wall saying, "Sorry,
screen reader nahin chalega bhaiya."
This, obviously, feels like someone stole our rasgullas!
So what do we do, sit and sulk like a pigeon denied a grain of rice?
No way, boss! Let's raise our voices like a well-practiced Bollywood hero
in the climax scene!
Let's flood Twitter with polite but pyaaz-pakoda-worthy messages using
#AccessibleSSC,
reminding the SSC folks that even the most "dhinchak" website is useless if
it excludes a bunch of desh ki mitti.
Remember, accessibility isn't just a fancy word, it's about opening doors
for everyone, regardless of their seeing ability.
So, if you have a Twitter account with more followers than your local
mithai shop, lend your voice!
And for those who prefer to support from the shadows, your retweets and
likes are like garam masala to our biryani – essential!
Together, let's make sure the SSC website doesn't become a digital Taj
Mahal accessible only to the Shahenshahs of sight.
After all, even the brightest minds need a little "haath badhana" sometimes,
Don't forget to tag the SSC in your tweets! And hey, maybe they'll even
offer us a "chai pe charcha" and add some accessibility features.
with thanks and regards,
shahzada saleem.
