Re: [AI] IRCTC Accessibility

2020-02-14 Thread Dr Aruni Sharma
Hello, You can directly enter the date in the edit box located next to the
destination edit box. You must use hyphen symbol instead of slash for this
purpose. The IRCTC app has many issues as of now. Personally I like using
NVDA or Narrator screen readers for booking tickets on the website.

Re: [AI] Scanning a document without printing

2020-01-07 Thread Dr Aruni Sharma
Hello Mohit, You can use envision-AI on iPhone to scan PDF images and it's
specially helpful if you have Hindi PDF Images If you have only English
language PDF You should better purchase Voice Dream Reader. Once you share
the image with voice dream reader, it will give you option to convert the
image into a text file using the native OCR app of the IOS.
Hope that helps.

Hey Naresh, Although latest iPhones are up for sale, they are mighty expensive.
I am myself thinking of upgrading. See if you can get a good bargain on last
year’s models, i.e. iPhone 8/8S/10?
Take care

Re: [AI] IRCTC became inaccessible

2018-09-24 Thread Dr. Aruni Sharma
Hi, There is nothing personal about my mail. Whatever issues have been raised
are causing concern to all of us. For me, it is all about getting things done
so long as the issues are not fixed by the authorities. As far as question of
installing multiple browsers and screen readers is concerned, I use all most
all browsers and screen readers as everyone of them has its own merits. Things
have become slightly tough in windows10 as Edge doesn’t have good support for
JAWS at the moment.

Aruni Ji, your reply in this topic seems that you are presenting IRCTC part
in the matter. The website must be accessible across screen readers. Your
mail suggest me to install multiple web browser with multiple screen
readers. as the case in particular, I have no problem with IRCTC at all.
secondly, the PRS counter is just 1km from my office, hence, purchasing
train ticket is not a barrier for me in particular.

Re: [AI] IRCTC became inaccessible

2018-09-24 Thread Dr. Aruni Sharma
Hello, While there is certain need to bring pressure upon IRCTC, Please note
the following: As has been mentioned previously in this list, it is possible to
book ticket using firefox in combination with NVDA.

The user ID and password field is not accessible with jaws?
comment: The problem is with Microsoft edge browser. The only one working for
us well and that too with NVDA is firefox.

somehow you can manage to login. after login selection of station, quota, etc
are
not accessible. before login the selection of above are not accessible.

Comment: These things can be managed well with NVDA object navigation.

Regular and advance user can manage it with trial and error. There is some
overlaying graphics on their page which hide the login field. After long
cummunication However, they have now fixed the error of OTP.

Comment: Apart from OTP I think there is also option for audio capcha, although
I could find it once or twice only while using google chrome with chromevox. It
is also possible to use irctc in a more accessible way with google chrome in
combination with chromevox

Also now you can book concession ticket through IRCTC with escort if the escort
is a
senior citizen. previously it was not possible.

Comment: I have not noticed any such limitation. Concessional tickets can be
booked for blind and escort passengers using irctc.

secondly, their enquiry website, www.indianrail.gov.in has now become
inaccessible. they have put graphical captcha on each enquiry.

Comment: This problem was earlier there also but for PNR inquiry only. This has
now further aggravated.
I am planning to prepare two audio walk-throughs one for booking tickets using
IRCTC site with NVDA and Firefox. And another one for accomplishing same task
with google chrome and chromevox. The IRCTC rail connect app on android is also
quite accessible. If there is solution provided for capcha, booking rail ticket
would become fully accessible for a visually impaired person.
Thanks
Aruni.

dear sazid,

following is my letter to IRCTC and reply from IRCTC. I don't think that
apart from this correspondence, there is no track two negotiation is being
held with IRCTC or indian railway. however, being a railway employee you may
persue the matter with CRIS. the text follows:

To,
The Director
Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd., B 148, 11th Floor,
Statesman House, Barakhamba Road New Delhi-110001

Subject: Denial of Internet ticketing facility to blind persons

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing on behalf of the visually impaired community of the country.
Your Railway Ticketing website www.irctc.co.in has now become totally
inaccessible to use for the millions of blind persons in the country.
It may be noted that with persistent advocacy and favourable court orders In
the court of CCPD vide Case No. 88/1101/13-14 dated 06/12/2013, Bhawani
Shankar Verma VS IRCTC we had been able to get the changes implemented in
the earlier IRCTC website. In particular OTP based verification was
specially introduced as an alternative to the graphical CAPTCHA. Even though
the website was not fully compliant to the International or National Web
Accessibility Guidelines, it was usable by digitally literate blind persons
including myself. You may be aware that even totally blind persons can use
the computer and internet independently using Screen Reading software
(Talking software like NVDA, Jaws). However, despite having this ability
blind persons cannot use the websites which are designed in violation of
standard practices and accessibility guidelines.
You have recently put in place a totally new website for internet ticket
booking. This website is unfortunately totally inaccessible for blind
persons and also those disabled persons who cannot use the computer mouse.
The OTP verification feature put in place by you is of no use now. The blind
persons are not able to even reach to the login form.
We have received complaints to this effect from many blind persons from the
country. I have also personally verified the issues with the website.
We urge you to immediately get the website tested and retrofitted for
accessibility. It must be made compliant to the Web Content Accessibility
Guidelines version 2.0. We can assist in this process if you so desire.
You will

Re: [AI] 25% off on New Years Trip

2018-09-06 Thread Dr. Aruni Sharma
Hello, I have been to all these 3 places of course never with
BatTravels. I would keep the trip to Taj the least favorite on my list, because
I could hardly find anything interesting in terms of touch and feel of the
place apart from its historical significance and importance from tourism point
of view. I found Sikandra rather more interesting.
It’s hard to pick my favorite out of the remaining two. I had a wonderful
experience both in Goa and Rajasthan. Both Goans and Rajasthani's are wonderful
hosts, very polite and interesting.
For vegetarians Rajasthan is a taste paradise. There are so many dishes to
choose from and different places offer different types of food to tickle your
taste buds. Goa on the other hand, is a paradise for non-vegetarians. You can
get all kinds of sea food there. But vegetarians would be disappointed somewhat
because I found the food quality not good at all.
Both places offer a lot of adventure but Goa would have an upper hand because
of the many a water sport activities. Rajasthan is also not far behind as you
can enjoy Jeep safari and great camel ride on Jaisalmer’s huge sand dunes.
However, I went to Rajasthan just last year and so I would prefer Goa this
time.
Thanks and regards,
Dr. Aruni Sharma.

Subject: [AI] 25% off on New Years Trip

Hello everyone. We at Bat Travels have been trying to reach a conclusion
regarding what trip to organise during the New Years. We have shortlisted 2-3
destinations, but we haven't been able to pick one. Why not you tell us your
preference amongst the three destinations along with a reason as to why you
prefer it over the others. If your reason is good enough, not only do we make a
trip to this place in New Years but you also get a 25% discount on the trip
price. Excited much?  Do take your pick from below: 1. Goa: Isn't Goa THE
destination during New Years? Water sports and the parties.  2. Jaisalmer: How
about staying in camps on sand dunes with a bonfire to warm you in the cold
nights. 3. Agra: Ahh..the Taj Mahal. People from all over the world come to
witness this expression of love. if you have a beloved or don't how does it
matter. Shah Jahan was mad enough for his. So cast your vote for option 1, 2 or
3. Don't forget to mention your reason. New Years could be really happy. - Team
Bat www.battravelsonline.com P.S. - Bat Travels curates trips for visually
impaired to travel with sighted as travelpals. We are fairly new but we have
organised some really enjoyable group trips. You may read a review here

However, it’s not still booking concessional tickets. While making the booking
and entering all the details it just says “unable to book ticket. Please try
