Subject:[AI] Accessible income tax Efiling initiative update
Sent by:"AccessIndia"

Dear all
Hope all is doing great and apology for writing to you all after a long
while.
As you are all aware regarding my attempt in personal capacity to make
income tax accessible to all including blind; I have taken few measures in
this regards and please to note few tiny developments.

1. I did meet with Income tax commissioner and highlighted concern
faced by blind/ visually impaired tax payers and am grateful to my Pwc
colleague for facilitating this meeting.

2. 2. I did float an email to you all where Amar and Ashish has
highlighted issues which are listed below:

3. * Alternative Visual capcha link does not have
clearly labled butten enabling blind/ low vision to file taxes.

4. * Lack of keyboard navigation of entire e-filing
websites prevent disabled taxpayers to independently carry out this
transaction.

5. * E-file does not conform to W3c compliance ,
international standard for offering equal access to all citizens
including disabled.

6. * Main menu buttons are not accessible.

7. * Java utility is not screen friendly. (Possible
solution Jaba bridge or free tools which offers equal access )

8. * IE brouser not supported

9. * Process of embedding digital signature is not
disabled friendly.

10. * 26 AS Traces (Table needs to include row and column
header
3. We had a conference call with vendor TCS, who is developing and
maintaining their portal. Key official from income tax attended this conf
call and the outcome of this call is that they would try to fix all above
issues and another review call would take place in three weeks.

May I request you all to kindly consider volunteering your little time to
view this web sites and identify more issues for them to resolve. I did
recommend them to hire professional agency which they are not so keying at
the moment.
May I also request you to spend time in testing the system when revised
version of portal goes live.
Please feel free to reach out to me if you would like to volunteer for
this initiative. Let's collaborate for accessible India.
Kind regards
Asif

Dear All

Some of you might already know about our online audio books library -
www.braillecards.org/audio.php. We now have 5000 files in 16 Indian
languages available for free download. no signup, no subscription,
nothing.
Navigating the library is easy - choose the language, choose the book, and
the third click takes you straight to the files.

Now, we are in a position to add some more content in English and Hindi.
A
new volunteer who wants to record, can do English and Hindi recordings.
Please let me know if there is any content that you need, and is not
already there in the library. The only thing is, it should not be under
specific copyright in spite of Marrakesh and ICA, 2012.

Please do share your requirements. with us on this email id.

Wonderful worl indeed though I am afraid this will benefit a small
number of people as majority of the people use smaller restaurants
which are inaccessible. This is where digital divide is growing fast.
We need to bridge the same. Of course, I am aware that we are working
with people like Zomato etc. but now we need to hasten the process.

With best wishes,

Ketan

One step towards independent exam system. But I believe it would be good
to provide options like use of computer or recording. Sensitising
examination authorities would also be needed to avoid bitter experience.

I see it may be a bit challenge for teachers during correction as accent
may vary.

Re: [AI] Blind can record answers

2016-01-12 Thread Rajesh H Mehta
IN my views, allowing recording answers is surely a welcome move due to
which dependency on writer would surely be reduced. However this could
further complex the writing skills of VI individuals. Due to just
recording the answers spellings would further become week. No doubt, this
could surely looked as positive move as now writer would not decide what
to write and certainly VI would able to claim everything as per his/her
ability rather then keep on putting every thing on writers.

Blind students can 'record' board exam answers on tape recorder

NAGPUR: Don't be surprised if during this summer's state board exam a
candidate asks the invigilator for additional 'cassette' instead of
additional supplement.
Students suffering from visual impairment (partial/full) can now record
their answers on tape recorder rather than taking help of a writer. This
new rule
is part of a slew of revolutionary changes brought in for special needs
students by state school education minister Vinod Tawde.

Speaking to TOI, Tawde said, "Visually impaired students can get the
questions read to them 20 minutes before the paper starts so that they can
get a feel
of things. Their answers will be recorded and the device will be sent for
evaluation in the same way we send the traditional answer sheets." For all
special
needs students the minister has offered other exam concessions, like 20
minutes extra time per exam hour, liberal evaluation, grace marks,
facility of
talking calculator, on-screen reading software (if available) etc.
Students suffering from cerebral palsy, autism, impairment of speech and
hearing, physical
disability, spastics, learning disorder etc are some who have been given
these examination concessions. Parents who have children with special
needs have
been advised to get in touch with their schools and local board office for
details.

Mr Modi is a man of words. However, as for the implementation, his record
is
very poor. In Gujarat, he is responsible for preventing the entry of the
VI

Re: [AI] discrimination by spicejet

2015-07-10 Thread Rajesh H Mehta
It is indeed sad to read following comments on various airlines.
I do have mix experience but never had experience of denial. Infact I
strongly feel if you ever face similar situation you should contact
airport duty manager on ground who surely helps or even if that does not
works out, please make sure you do contact Airport authority who are
always their at all the airports. Parimalajee, it would be kind if you
could let me know the person who denied you on Jet airways. We could
surely take it up with them and raise the concern and find out why they
did it? Incase if you have details, would request you to write to me
personally with flight date, no., and concern person with if possible
boarding card scan copy and will try talking to authority.

travel alone. I had to argue and fight with them to allow me to
travel.finally with grate hesitation they put me on the flight they warned

Infact If I am not too wrong, have they not started online facilities some

Dear George

This is definitely not one of situation. Quite often booking clerks create
nuisance while issuing concessional tickets.

The way forward to deal with this situation is to sensatise those manning
the 139 toll free folks. They are a smaller number to deal with. Again,
periodical follow up's is essential. Ideally, all those in railways should
be sensatised, the number is too large to be considered a practical
proposition.

The online accessible booking would at least deal with the booking clerk's
woes.

However, just with in 1 Km distance, HdFC has yet another ATM which has no
talking features at all. This called Dev-daya nagar HDFC ATM.
I would be more then happy to help any VI to locate HDFC's accisible ATM

Rajeshjee,
I definitely agree with your view points regarding Hindi OCR. However,
isn’t it some what doable?
Think about 5 years back story and look at today. Are we not better of

Let me give you 1 more example which really helped me. I am referring
talking BP machine. It really helped me on very critical moment when I had
to call doctor to check my mother. Though I know many a time it does not
give accurate reading but it certainly gives you some idea and also alert
you from any future miss half.
In the end I am of the strong believer that some thing is better then
nothing”
Incase if we don’t use what we have how would we improve our technology?

It is very sad to learn following what happen with my own classmate Amjad,
however flick side is what shall we do? Can we stay without sighted
assistance? No doubt, in last 10 years technology has brought revolution
in our life but how many of VI even today expose to this?
My experience even today for many things which could be done through
technologies VI still taking help of sighted.
Look at the example of paying payment or doing any kind of financial
transaction through on line. Even though many of the banking sides are
accessible, does all the VI use them? Though many of the hindi/marathi
hard copy documents could be scan and red by VI their onself why do we
needs to be dependant on sighted?
I know we can not completely stay without sighted assistance and doing
that would be inviting ourself a ideological world. However, can not we
reduce the dependency?
What stops us doing that???
