 Thank!

Really?
I did not know this.
I was also a reader in RNIB till few years back. They give us the
labels in one of the book volumes. I usually found it in the first
volumen in the last page. I will just stick those and leave it in the
post office. The books will be sent.
You talk to the postoffice

Re: [AI] Suggestions needed: For Parents to communicate to their young daughter about her disability

2019-02-26 Thread Soni Jo
Truly said Sir.
Over parenting makes the children too smart and too weak, both at the
same time. Though, my own 2 ad half year old is over parented. She is
such a clingy.
Now, about this small girl, she should not be protected ortreaed in
any special way. At least, that is what I think. I lost my eyesight
suddenly and completely almost at the same age. Nobody told me, or at
least, I do not remember.
I knew what was happening when my parents took me to doctors and
operated on my eyes. Only sad thing was the needles and operation.
Oherwise, I had more o less fine childhood. I ran around on the road,
nobody look out for me that I will be ran over, smiles.
Enough of me, what I feel is, she should be treated as her other
sibblings, except or reading and writing. She should be taught braille
and other ways to read and write. Otherwise, she is fine.. The parents
should answer all her questions regarding her eyesight. They should
not be over protective. Childhood is bliss.
 Thank you

Dear Sir,
Thank you for replying. But at my end, it says that the site is
blocked as per the rule of govt. I tried in other computers also. But,
in all the computers, the web page cannot be displayed.
I get so many sendspace links to download books and stuff. Now, I do
not know how to get those.
I have tried different sendspace links. But, none work.
Thank you

Re: [AI] Effectively organizing religious ceremonies and participating in them

2018-05-02 Thread Soni Jo
HI!
I think it is our perception, how we feel. Sometimes, we do a lot of
things but still we feel very small. Sometimes, we do nothing, but, we
are the most important person. It depends on your position, that is if
you are the brother of the groom and you have two other siblings. They
do everything and you do only the enjoying part. But, if the groom is
your son, then you are the most important person.
Feel free and tell your immediate family, because no one is like them
in accommodating for you. You cannot make every other relative to
understand but your immediate family will always be your side.
All said, these days everything thing is so easy and simple. We book
the venue, plus, the interior decorator, plus the catering, plus the
event manager, and all is taken care of. Why worrying about you not
able to decorate or do things? Everything is outsourced these days. At
least that is so very much happening in South India. Even, we appoint
wedding planners and it is all nice. We concentrate on grooming
ourselves, our dress, meeting people as it is only the excuse these
days to bring all the relatives together and have good food!

I apologise if my opinions are not relevant.
 Have fun.

[AI] laptop heating problem

2018-01-17 Thread Soni Jo
Dear all,
Oflate, I am facing heating problem with my laptop. I am using toshiba
satellite series since 2012. I have changed the batteries twice. In
fact, recently, I have changed the battery. It was working fine till

minutes and then starts heating and creating some sound. As a result
the battery drains down quickly.
Can I fix the problem? Or should I purchase a new laptop?
I use it for only academic purpose, reading, writing and
presentations. which will be the best? How are the samsung notebooks?
Please advise

2015-07-12 Thread Soni Jo
Hello Sir,
If she has not sanctioned you the leave due to you, you can ask
explanation in writing. Or take it to next level.
Can you not lodge a complaint against her to your principal? And lodge
a complaint about this where ever you are able to. if it is growing
severe and severer, approach your local newspaper or media. I am not
sure if it is a good advice. But, her willful behavior should be
stopped only by disclosing it in open.
You please try not to take anything personal. she cannot go on like
this for long.

the atmosphere of the school is very painful for me. I have tried very hard

I am fatigue enough now and cannot bear the situation.

First of all, her behaviour is very rude and intolerable to me. She always
communicates in higher, unbearable and impatient tone. Always says that I am
a blind person, I misuse my blindness, I don't perform any task, and I am
trifle and burden for the department and drawing salary without giving

As far as my duties are concerned, I'm working efficiently and ready for any

I, along with an another visually woman Mrs. Kanta Devi UDC, made a

Mrs. Kanta devi is also similarly victimised. Besides all above mentioned

Now, I want some kind guidance from you in this regard.

 Thanks in advance

Hi,

Jethro Daniel was born in 1995 with extreme cases of Cerebral Palsy

Jethro has used this ability, discovered when he was 4, to display his
creativity through poems and other forms of the written word, to

Once, Jethro communicated in his 'unusual' way to his parents saying,
You have shown me such love and endless affection that you have made
my life so joyful and inspirational. He further says, In spite of

can and want to do is inspire people to live their lives rightly and
be contributors.

Jethro finds the mutilation of the human spirit more limiting than his

thing in case you would be starting from scratch, giving your website
for development would cost you a handsome amount, on the other hand if

COIMBATORE: When Anjum Khan received her PhD on Monday, it meant more
than it does to most doctoral candidates-the 27-year-old lost her
vision at the age of five after an attack of measles and has studied
 entirely in Braille.

Anjum is an assistant professor of English at Avinashilingam
University. Her family moved from Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh to
Coimbatore in 1993 for her treatment but doctors said she would never
 regain her vision.

While my parents were thinking what next, the doctors told us about
Avinashilingam school for girls, says Anjum. She began learning
Braille and use audio technology to help her read, write and study.

Her father, Mehmood Khan got a job at a private cement company in
Madukkarai, 27km from Coimbatore. If Anjum had to continue her
studies, Avinashilingam was among the few options as it had facilities
 and faculty to help her.

I decided I would live in hostel and study. It is then that I
realised that to gain something, one has to sacrifice something,
Anjum says. She lived in the hostel for 12 years from Class 6 till she
 finished her postgraduate degree.

After finishing school, Anjum joined the Avinashilingam University for
Women to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. She
finished her masters' degree and applied for her doctoral studies in
2009, says S Kalamani, Anjum's guide and an associate professor in
the department of English, Avinashilingam University. Anjum had to
leave thehostel after her MA, but, regularly visited me every Friday
and told me how her research was progressing, she says.

Anjum's younger brother Abid Ali died in a road accident eight years
ago while she was doing her masters' degree. My father had bought him
a bike to make his commute between college and home easier, says
 Anjum.

It was a difficult time for the family. But, I have faced so much
that I treat happiness and sorrow equally, she says. Anjum has
dedicated her PhD to her brother.

Anjum did her research on 'Ethnic Silhouettes: An Interpretation Of
The Community In Select Works Of M G Vassanji In The Light Of New
Historicism'. She became an assistant professor in January 2013 in the
 university in which she studied.

Besides teaching at the university, Anjum also teaches blind children
Braille and computer operations. I consider teaching a means to reach
 people, she says.

Re: [AI] Insulted by a university teacher, blind attempted suicide

2014-07-25 Thread Soni Jo
I would differ and disagree with Vidhya. I lost my eye sight when I
was five years old and since I was six years old I was part of an
inclusive education system. In the entire school it was just me who
was different and my second class friends use to dictate to me
whatever was on the black board. In fact I was the most popular girl
and never missed an opportunity to climb up the trees or play chase
and catch.
Moreover, I had another challenge besides being visually imapired that
was communication impairment. I knew only Hindi and my father got
transferred to Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu where every one speaks Tamil.
But I managed very well. That was the time I myself was understand
what was happening to me and it took me so long to realise that I was
different because I had such healthy inclusive atmosphere.

I had very rich experience and I can go on narrating. So, one cannot
generalise and it is a matter for going lucky, how one see oneself and
lot more.
Lets be the change which we desire to see in our society.
Keep hoping!

 Hi all,
Since I was not totally blind I took my studies in normal school only.
But even then, nobody considered me a disabled child, rather took me
only one among them, and I never had the feeling that I was
different. Of course, whenever I need any help from my friends or
teachers, they were more than happy to provide it.

 My simple question is:
does a blind person not have the right to be just average?

Just as we expect and campaign for an accessible World to live in our
education system is expected to be accessible in all its dimensions.
Technologies used , strategies deployed have to not only create a level
playing field but also provide all children with choices to learn and do
things. For example if blind children are allowed the option of writing
exams using computers then all children must have the choice of using
computers. The problems arise when you have special solutions deployed
 for
so called special children and in the process isolate. Inclusion has to
happen with a universal design outlook. Inclusion is not just about
 placing
disabled children in a mainstream school and addressing their special
needs. Inclusion is about a class room that is accessible, a pedagogy
 that
reaches out to all children in class, a curriculum that is more focused
towards skill development rather than being content heavy. In other words
inclusive education should not be a cut and paste job to accommodate
disabled children but needs to be looked at afresh with a lens of
 universal
 design that addresses the diversity.

Given the fact that we the blind want opportunities in the World, we need
 to
 1. see how we can be empowered enough to be part of the World
 2. The people around needs to be given sufficient opportunity to see,
understand and appreciate the potential of all of us so that their
hesitation, reluctance and resistence to including us is wiped out.

We live in an imperfect World. There is a constant room for improvement.
Nothing stops us from aspiring for a better World. We are not compelled
 to
 settle for inadequate

[AI] inaccessible webiste

2014-07-18 Thread Soni Jo
HI All!
I am working as an Asst. Prof. and our institute follows Egovernance
system for marking attendance and entering marks. However, this should
have been a boon to me but due to its inaccessibility, its become a
total bumpost. I can go inside my website but the links inside work
only with mouse click. So, I can only log in and move around my home
page and cannot go further to enter attendance or mark records.I have
reported this to the person in charge and the controller of
examination but no steps till date to make it accessible. It has been
one whole year now since I brought this to their notice.
Any technical solution for this? Or any suggestions how to handle such
inaccessibility at workplace?
Anticipating!
Anjum

Re: [AI] Reply to Ishita's mail regarding jobs for blind individuals - Re: my quriyocity are normelpeopleintrestedinmarryingblindpartners

2014-07-04 Thread Soni Jo
Greetings!
Yes after qualifying ourselves adequately and greatly, we might get an
opportunity to earn but proving ourselves to our work fellow that we
are qualified is lifetime procedure. Nonetheless, it is almost
difficult to prove that we deserve that job and pay to them

On 7/3/14, Sameer sameer.la...@gmail.com wrote:

 Dear Ishita,

I have been selected by Reliance Industries Ltd. inspite of being completely

blind will be joining them within a fortnight. I am also aware of other
partially completely blind people working with the Reliance group in
 Mumbai.

Regarding the salary earned by blind individuals in the private sector, the

salary earned depends upon the individual's designation, capability
qualifications. There are several list members who are employed in the
private sector (myself included) who are earning a good salary. So, it is
not fair to generalise that the private sector does not pay it's blind
 employees adequately.

I agree that the private sector employers are hesitant to employ blind
individuals but there are some employers who are willing to give the blind
individuals a chance to show that they can perform on par with their sighted

 counterparts.
