Subject: [AI] A Resource for Blind Indian Students Aspiring to Study Abroad -
call for participants

Hi All,

I am hoping to help create a resource - a booklet if you will - of FAQs that
would be useful for Indian blind students who aspire to go abroad for pursuing
different levels of higher education. This would include stuff like:
information on the pros and cons of doing this from an accessibility and
quality of life standpoint; pointers for making the transition smoother;
obtaining reasonable accommodations for qualifying exams, if any; applying for
scholarships like the Rhodes; names of blind folks who have gone from India to
study at various universities, etc. this can be widely disseminated in the VI
community.

So far, Kartik has enthusiastically endorsed this project and shown interest. I
am hoping to hear from other blind people from India who are willing to
contribute to this initiative. Please reach out to me off-list if you fit this
description.

Best,
Rahul Bajaj,
Rhodes Scholar - University of Oxford
India and Linacre, 2018.

Dear All,My son old disability certificate has been rejected by CBSE as it says
' it does not carry Registration number of the doctor obtained from RCI (
Rehabilitation council of India'. This certificate was made in 2005. I have
been asked to submit details or the new certificate within three days.I live
in Nerul area in Navi Mumbai. I have following queries,1 Which hospital should
I go to get the new certificate made? I have been given divergent opinion. One

[AI] CBSE Circular regarding qualification and eligibility of writers in exam

2015-07-16 Thread afroz ali
Dear All,
My son would be appearing for class X exam during this session. He is studying
in a normal CBSE school and the school authorities are not very much aware
about the qualification and eligibility of the writer.
My question are as under,
1 What does the circular says?
2 Can different writer write different exam papers?
3 Can I bring my writer or the CBSE organises writer?
4 Is it mandatory that the writer has necessarily one class junior?
Request you all to answer and provide me the required details.
Thanks in advance,

Re: [AI] New York Times: Growing Up With a Disabled Sibling, By RACHEL ADAMS

2013-11-02 Thread afroz ali
Dear Rahul
I can't agree more with what you have said. Its not the speciality which holds
you back rather its the lack of awareness.
No one in the world is perfectly able or disable. Perfection would have made
GOD out of us. We don't exist on extremes. Life is shades of grey and we must
accept it.
To do well in life, one must focus on ones strength, weaknesses would
automatically be clouded and obscured. At the end of the day, destiny is
decided by whims of stars and we cannot really do much about it.

Hi all,

According to me, it is not fair to put the entire blame on the parents.

When any parent finds out that his child is blind, he experiences  a great
sense of helplessness and despair.
In such a situation, he seeks the help of special educators  and other people
who are closely associated with blind people.
My uniform experience has taught me that the aforementioned people generally
tell the parents one of the following 2 things:
1. Their blind child will be able to do everything and will lead a completely
normal life.
2. Their blind child won't be able to do anything and will live a miserable
life.
In actuality, the truth  always lies  somewhere in the middle.
So, due to lack of proper guidance, many parents of blind children are unable
to provide their child the kind of  support  and care that he or she needs.
