[AI] suggestion needed

2009-10-12 Thread rakesh negi
Hai list,

Couple of days ago, I got a typical case to handle. I came across a
person who is suffering from multiple disability. Currently he is
pursuing his tenth class & his care taker has a wish to provide him
with computer education. so that he will be able to attempt his exams
through computer. I quite appreciate the view of his care taker but
there are some impediment which makes uncomfortable him to learn
computer.
He is not able to recognize the speech of any TTS. He can recognize
only when people communicates to him through high speech. When I
discussed about it with his care taker then he told me that he is
suffering from multiple problems. He has problem of not being able to
hear clearly, has low vision & not able to sit properly.

He told me that he did all the things for him example he provided him
with large keyboard, he also tried with magnifier software but all
these things were wasted. He also knows that the boy is not able to
keep his fingers correctly on keyboard.

After knowing all these things, I suggested him to use talking typer,
which would help him to keep him in touch of keyboard. I know that

its not a proper solution of this problem. But I don’t want to break
his hopes & according to me only talking typer is a software which he
can use to settle his fingers permanently on keyboard.

Here what I am trying to convey is that all people in the list are
surely experienced and better as you have seen life & faced more
situations like this. So I wish to request you all to come up with
some valuable suggestions as it can bring change in ones’ life.

[AI] Workshop on accessible banking for visually impaired

2014-03-31 Thread rakesh negi
Greetings from NAB Helpline

WORKSHOP ON ACCESSIBLE BANKING FOR Visually Impaired

Date: April 26, 2014 from 2 PM to 5:30 PM
Venue: NAB, Sector-V, R.K. Puram, New Delhi

Background

During the last several years initiatives have been taken by banks,
organizations for the blind and individuals to make the banking
services accessible to persons with blindness or low vision. Although
much needs to be done to make all the services completely accessible,
visually impaired persons can take advantage of the available
accessible banking services to make their lives much easier and
comfortable.

Since the installation of first talking ATM in June-2011, many banks
have installed talking ATMS across different parts of the country and
now India has more than 4500 talking ATMS installed across different
states and cities. Visually impaired persons can use online
banking/mobile banking service to pay utility bills, transfer funds,
recharge mobile phone and much more. It has been observed that
majority of visually impaired persons are either not aware of the
accessibility of these services or they have apprehensions in using
such facilities.

The Assistive Technology helpline of the National Association for the
Blind Delhi started an initiative of conducting banking accessibility
workshops in November 2013 and after getting tremendous response from
the community, we are pleased to announce the second workshop in this
series.

Who can participate

Visually impaired persons above age of 18 years who are employed, in
higher education or seeking jobs are invited to participate. Note that
this workshop is not for blind persons working in the banking sector.
We conduct a different program for increasing their productivity at
workplace.

The participants will get an opportunity to lay their hands on
internet banking and get firsthand experience of accessing the
internet banking/mobile banking service of few banks.

This workshop will consist of demonstration and hands-on experience on
the following topics.
1.Demonstration about the functionality of Talking ATM machines
2.Online railway Ticket booking: Participants will see
demonstration of online railway ticket booking.
3.Use of Online banking: Participants will learn to use internet
banking of different banks for various purposes such as checking
statements, funds transfer, and more.
4.Mobile banking: The use of mobile apps of certain banks will be
demonstrated.
5.Open house: questions from the participants.

Please register for this workshop before 16th April 2014 with the NAB
helpline by email or phone. There is no fee for participating in this
workshop. No accommodation or reimbursement of travel expenses will be
provided by NAB Delhi for this workshop. Please hurry, only 20 persons
can be accommodated in this event.

You are requested to provide following details for registration;
*Name.
*Age.
*Occupation.
*have active internet banking from any bank (yes/No)
*Name of the bank from which you have taken the internet banking.

Note: The registration is purely on first come first serve basis.
Preference will be given to the candidates who have active internet
banking from any bank.

The workshop will be facilitated by Mr. Rahul Gambhir, Mr. Yogesh
Taneja and Mr. Prashant Ranjan Verma.
