Nice to read this news. Hi friends, sharing my conversation with Radio udan, online station for visually impaired. This is my first skype conversation with Radio udaan team! I am feeling happy. Despite having lost their sight, these people are giving hope to other blind people across the country, and across the world, through a unique initiative called Radio Udaan. An internet radio station started in February 2014, Radio Udaan has over 30 visually-impaired RJs who conduct shows, primarily for the blind community. According to Minal Singhvi, station director of Radio Udaan, Our listeners today range from 10,000-15,000. We deal with a variety of topics from sports to quizzes to Bollywood. We also deal with a number of practical concerns such as employment for the visually impaired; challenges a blindsighted married couple may face and dealing with problems that someone who has lost his sight may be going through. The station breaks many stereotypes. Many of the RJs, who currently work on a voluntary basis, are employed with sectors such as IT, human resources, management and creative writing. Amit Bhatt, who does a show on Radio Udaan, has proven nothing is impossible. An IT professional, Amit has also worked with All India Radio as their sports correspondent in 2002, where he did a show called Khel Siva. When asked how he managed this Bhatt says, This is exactly what they asked me. When pressed he says: There is nothing wrong with my hearing. I used to listen to audio interviews of sportstars and present my show. Amit adds that he did his own share of reporting while interviewing personalities such as former Test umpire S.K. Bansal. I used an old fashioned tape recorder and I took notes writing in the Braille script. But I realised that I could not do journalism long term and so I turned to IT. The first question that strikes anyone is that how could anyone from the visually-impaired community be able to handle computers? Divya Sharma, another RJ from Radio Udaan explains: We (the RJs) use JAWS, a software program to ensure that everything that is written is spoken. For my phone there is a 'talk back' facility so one can speak and work normally. Divya is currently pursuing her Masters in English from Punjab University. She has two weekly shows on Radio Udaan - Inspirational Wings and Mystery of 26. In her spare time, she is a poet, freelance writer, guitarist and singer. My show Inspirational Wings is about building courage and positivity, while my other show is about learning English, something which many of my listeners have appreciated, she says. There are challenges though. Singhvi admits that being a nonprofit organisation ensures that some RJs drop out due to lack of remuneration. This certainly was the case with Swati Saxena. Working as an HR manager after completing her MBA in Human Resources Management from TISS, Mumbai, Swati admits that her show called Sports Galaxy, which she did with her sister Shubhra, changed her life immensely. The day I got associated with Radio Udaan (in June 2014), my Facebook post got the maximum number of likes so far. Some people thought I had given up my HR job to be an RJ, she laughs. The success of Radio Udaan has not only changed lives but also attitudes. As Singhvi reveals, plans are on to raise funds amid the visuallyimpaired community to monetise Radio Udaan there is a plan to create other media such as a magazine for their visually-impaired listeners. As she says, We want to show everyone that the visually impaired have the same concerns as anyone else. If encouraged, they can educate themselves, take jobs and do everything that everyone else can. Thanks in part to Radio Udaan that many of them are already doing so. oh excellent news - Original Message - From: varun mahto meetmyselfva...@gmail.com To: accessindia accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Tuesday, December 23, 2014 4:43 PM Subject: [AI] Himachal court notice over facilities for blind students Himachal court notice over facilities for blind students Shimla, Dec 23 (IANS) A bench of Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan has issued notice to the chief secretary and the principal secretary (education) of Himachal Pradesh regarding the status of special facilities for blind students. The notice was also issued to the director (higher education) and the Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) vice chancellor Monday after a visually impaired student wrote to the chief justice of the high court, urging him to ensure that special facilities are provided in all educational institutes of the state. There is no facility in schools and colleges for blind students. I suffered a lot. I have seen that the HPU in Shimla is also lacking it, Banita Rana, pursuing her master's degree in English, said in the letter. Taking cognisance of her letter, the court directed the top officials to file replies within a week and listed the matter for hearing Dec 31. Citing the Supreme Court judgment March 26, 2014, she said the court had asked all the states to implement the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act of 1995 by the end of this year. But nothing has been done to protect the rights of people with disabilities. --Indo-Asian News Service Clean India Campaign: Let us also chip in! Re: [AI] Please help me
hello friend, please check it. may it helps you. Who was Helen Keller? Helen Keller is considered one of the leading figures of the twentieth century. When she was an infant, illness robbed her of her vision and hearing. Despite the social stigma of being deafblind, Helen devoted her life to helping others. Through her numerous writings and lectures, she is still regarded as one of the most powerful and well-known advocates for people who are blind and deafblind. Her books and speeches have inspired millions of people including many well-known individuals such as Conrad Hilton, founder of Hilton Hotels, Ronald Reagan and Eleanor Roosevelt. Through her tireless efforts, she helped change the way the world viewed people with disabilities. Helen Keller died June 1, 1968. Where was Helen born? A very healthy baby, Helen was born June 27, 1880 in Tuscumbia, Alabama to retired army Captain Arthur Keller and his second wife, Kate. Helen had a younger brother, Phillips Brooks and a sister, Mildred. Her father was a cotton plantation owner and the editor of a popular news weekly, The North Alabamian. How did Helen become deafblind? At the age of 19 months, Helen became very ill with a high fever, leaving her totally deaf and blind. Doctors at that time diagnosed it as brain fever, however, experts now think she may have suffered from scarlet fever or meningitis. How did Helen communicate with others? By age seven, Helen had developed nearly 60 hand gestures to communicate with her parents and ask for things. However, she was often frustrated by her inability to express herself. With the help of her teacher, Anne Sullivan, Helen learned the manual alphabet and could communicate by finger spelling. Within a few months of working with Anne, Helen's vocabulary had increased to hundreds of words and simple sentences. Anne also taught Helen how to read braille and raised type, and to print block letters. By age nine, Helen began to learn to speak and read lips, skills she continued to develop over her lifetime. Who was Anne Sullivan? Anne Sullivan was Helen Keller's teacher, companion and friend for nearly 50 years. Anne was born April 14, 1866 in Feeding Hills, Massachusetts to poor Irish immigrants. At the age of five, Anne contracted trachoma, a contagious conjunctivitis that attacks the eyes, and was left almost entirely blind. She later received several eye operations that restored some of her vision. After graduating class valedictorian from Perkins School for the Blind in 1886, she moved to Tuscumbia, Alabama to become Helen Keller's teacher. Anne remained with Helen until her death on October 20, 1936. Where did Helen attend school? Helen attended Perkins School for the Blind for four years. She then spent a year at the Cambridge School for Young Ladies to prepare for Radcliffe College. In 1904, she graduated cum laude from Radcliffe and became the first deafblind person to earn a bachelor of arts degree. Later, Helen was the first woman to be awarded an honorary degree from Harvard University. She also received honorary degrees from Temple University and the Universities of Glasgow, Scotland; Delhi, India; Berlin, Germany; and Witwatersrand and Johannesburg, South Africa. What subjects did Helen study? Helen was an avid reader and follower of politics and world events. Among her favorite books were philosophy texts and volumes of poetry. She also enjoyed studying history and economics as well as foreign languages including French, Latin and German. After completing school, what did Helen do? Helen used her education and influence to help improve the lives of others. She published several books and essays about her own life and views and spent much of her time lecturing and lobbying for important social issues including women's suffrage and assistance for people who were blind and deafblind. Helen also performed vaudeville and had a taste of Hollywood, making two movies about her life, Deliverance and The Unconquered. Much of Helen's later years were spent traveling around the world, raising money and awareness for the blind and other social issues. Did Helen ever marry? No, although she was briefly engaged and had many admirers. Helen's teacher and lifetime companion Anne Sullivan did marry, however, and Helen lived with Anne and her husband, John Macy. Did Helen meet anyone famous? Helen Keller made several famous friends and acquaintances. Among her friends were author Mark Twain and inventor Alexander Graham Bell. Helen also met Charlie Chaplin, Dr. Oliver Wendell Holmes, Eleanor Roosevelt, Martha Graham, India's former Prime Minister Nehru, the Queen of England, and 12 U.S. presidents, from Grover Cleveland to John F. Kennedy. What kind of causes and charities did Helen advocate? Helen worked for a variety of causes during her life. She was an outspoken suffragist, an advocate of worker's rights and an opponent of child labor, but

Re: [AI] Eyeway TV Serial!
well, again an outstanding thing is being done. really it will change the outlook of society specially in states like himachal pradesh and other such states where still vi persons are not getting equal opportunities and struggling even for getting education. as far as eyeway radio show is concerned, it has also done a great job. last year i was traveling for simla. some people started to talk me in the bus. after talking to me for some time. they told that they listened in the radio that vi people can use computers and mobiles completely. i was happy to hear that people are getting aware of these things. but perhaps limited people listen to radio shows. but now TV show will be a great initiative. and it will rapidly sensitize the society with warm regards and heartiest congratulations, sohan. - Original Message - From: Amit Bhatt misterbh...@gmail.com To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Friday, February 15, 2013 3:09 PM Subject: Re: [AI] Eyeway TV Serial! Sir, Let me first be glad about this new endeavor being made towards extending the wakefulness about blindness amongst the people now through TV channel after the radio program. If you have any episode that includes any area of independent living at home then, May I suggest? A large number of people in India are still oblivious and unaware of personal independent living of a visually challenged person in domestic and personal life. Sighted people either have no information or have many erroneous conceptions on how a blind person takes care of his dress, body and other personal grooming at home. For an instance: many of the sighted folks don't believe whether a visually impaired boy can shave and make his beard inn a decent manner on his own. Similarly, they get astonished when they come to know that we are able to cut our nails and all. There are many such questions to the mind of sighted people like how we manage in wash room, how we take bath, how we wear shirts and other clothes, etc. I gravely believe these questions and doubt need to be addressed via live manifestation on the TV. I am sure people in large would be aware of our living style after this presentation. Since I got an opportunity to record a few interviews for your radio program in the past, I would say please let me know if I can be of any small help to this new sketch too. Dear Friends! We are happy to share with you that we are working on a 13 part TV serial for nationwide telecast. The serial aims to create awareness and sensitise the masses on the potential and the possibilities with life with blindness. The serial will cover various themes like education, parenting, employment, law, technology, art and culture, sports and recreation and so on. The idea is to establish that we the blind persons are as human as anyone else and can be part of the mainstream National life, if we are seen as potential resources for the country and are invested in. We need to move away from being people who should be provided for and looked after to people who can contribute to the National Economy. Parents, the Society and the Nation must have expectations of us and hence must provide us with quality opportunities to evolve as Indian citizens. We would like to collaborate with Access India as a source to generate content. I have spoken to the moderator and he believes that this would be a meaningful partnership. Access India has over 2000 members from across India and the possibilities of coming up with interesting case stories, innovations, experiences and so on are immense. Re: [AI] A lightness of spirit
head soft to this great soul. i salute such a great man. really a freedom fighter. fighting for the freedom of our community. - Original Message - From: Vikas Kapoor dl.vi...@gmail.com To: Access India accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Saturday, February 09, 2013 1:06 PM Subject: [AI] A lightness of spirit A lightness of spirit Lawrence Liang Disability activist Rahul Cherian leaves a legacy of thinking about human rights as rights for the maximum enjoyment of life The word spirit travels to us via Latin where spiritus literally means breath but is more accurately a description of the vigour and vitality of a being. It is therefore appropriate that while breath marks the line between life and death, an infectious spirit vitalises everyone with their being regardless of the presence or absence of their breath. Rahul Cherian - intrepid spirit and tireless activist for disability rights - passed away on February 7 after a sudden illness. While many of us feel cheated by the death of someone so young, let us not be mistaken: it was always Rahul who cheated death all along, and Robin Hood-like, generously distributed his infectious enthusiasm, laughing his way out of the bank of life. Diagnosed at a very early age with a spinal tumour, hospitals and surgeries were no strangers to him; they were mere playmates from whom he learnt the value of not taking illness too seriously. Impact on Verma report After a surgery in his 30s in which he lost partial mobility of his legs, Rahul became involved with the rights of disabled people and started Inclusive Planet, an organisation that works on all aspects of disability rights - from accessibility policies of the government, to reform in copyright law to enable persons with visual disabilities the right to read. He was instrumental in the drafting of the Treaty for the Visually Impaired, currently being debated at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), as well as the amendment to the Indian Copyright Act to enable exceptions for persons with disabilities. Most recently, Inclusive Planet made a set of submissions to the Justice J.S. Verma Committee on the reform of sexual assault laws from the perspective of disabled victims, many of which were incorporated into the final report. In articulating an innovative jurisprudence of disability rights, it was clear that his sense of play and a belief that emancipation comes from a sense of joy, not of sorrow, always informed whatever he did. Thus even as he fought in all fora for equal citizenship of disabled people, he also included a dating service for them and a section on disability and humour on inclusiveplanet.com. A telling sign of his joie de vivre was an Inclusive Planet T-shirt that had an alien with crutches pointing at you saying, You are not alone. I remember being in a meeting with him and various representatives of organisations fighting for the rights of the visually impaired to discuss with the government the Copyright Amendment Bill. As the negotiations seemed to head towards a frustrating bureaucratic wall, he turned to me in exasperation and said, Things better start improving or I will be forced to hit someone with my crutches and that will be terrible for the image of the disability movement. In an interview in Geneva, Rahul enthusiastically demonstrated his new foldable scooter with which he said he could go on his own and buy his wife Anjana a present. He added: I used to call myself a disability activist but now I consider myself a freedom fighter because I am actually fighting for freedom to access the city. Coming from the land of Mahatma Gandhi, I am proud to say I am a freedom fighter and let's see what kind of freedom we can win for disabled people. Rahul leaves behind an important legacy in terms of his work, but a far more important one on how we understand the very idea of a free spirit. His singularity, while irreplaceable, provides us with a vocabulary of thinking of human rights struggles as really a right to the maximum enjoyment of life and doing it with a sense of lightness. Enumerating lightness as one of the desirable attitudes to cultivate, Italian writer Italo Calvino urged us to recall Perseus's refusal of Medusa's stone-heavy stare. To slay Medusa without himself being turned to stone, Perseus supports himself on the lightest of things - the winds and the clouds - and fixes his gaze upon what can be revealed only by indirect vision - an image caught in a mirror. Calvino reminds us that Perseus's strength lay in his refusal to look directly, but not in a refusal of the reality in which he is fated to live. Sleep well Rahul - you have taught us well that laughter and lightness are our greatest weapons against adversity. Re: [AI] Tips to manage without escort?
hi friends, here i must mention one thing. as we say about hilly states like himachal, here also cane is not safe everywhere. in most areas we have no footpaths or shower lines where we can use cane safely. if someone visited to Simla ever, u can observe it. here in my town, the situation is same. if we r walking in any market place, on both sides we have shops and in between we have a thin lane. road sides have not much space for walking. thanks. sohan. in short, i want to say that, escort is sometime very necessary in these areas. - Original Message - From: Chetan Soni chetanson...@gmail.com To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Friday, July 29, 2011 2:51 PM Subject: Re: [AI] Tips to manage without escort? Hi, besides the places you mentioned, it is difficult to move without escort in small towns and some villages where stray animals like cows and bulls, stray dogs etc. challenge the ability of a totally sightless to move with just a white cane and no escort. It's a reality and i have experienced it. - Original Message - From: YADAV, D. N yada...@iocl.co.in To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Friday, September 30, 2011 11:46 AM Subject: Re: [AI] Tips to manage without escort? Mobility with 'fixed escort' or without one with your cane/no cane is like moving in a familiar world of your own another unfamiliar to you. White cane can only be a safety tool to prevent your near fall but not a guide as u have to ask directions from others despite your cane. Recently I had been to a training programme from my office in different location. There everybody (as is vogue today) held his plate in one hand, put things of 5-6 types by his other then took to eating on standing tables during lunch. I had to fumble my way to the queue starting with the plate point, often getting somebody to fill up with edibles helping me to the standing table. Where I could answer raise questions with confidence during our faculty lectures, I felt my confidence was badly shaken in lunch place only depending on others to feed me with their help. Even the lunch place was hundreds of metres away from training ground where reaching could be more than mere fumbling for the place. In such scenario, as often it is with a blind person alone, I always think a fixed escort if you could have it, would be the best option. Your confidence level is very high, you feel at par with your colleagues have your own world to enjoy without any dependence on new persons for your pleasure of choice. It could be really very harassing asking for help everyone for your needs feeling bad when society fails to help you in time. Really good ** * * The President of India DR. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam 's Speech in Hyderabad . * Why is the media here so negative? Why are we in India so embarrassed to recognize our own strengths, our achievements? We are such a great nation. We have so many amazing success stories but we refuse acknowledge them--- Why? We are the first in milk production. We are number one in Remote sensing satellites. We are the second largest producer of wheat. We are the second largest producer of rice. Look at Dr. Sudarshan , he has transferred the tribal village into a self-sustaining, self-driving unit. There are millions of such achievements but our media is only obsessed in the bad news and failures and disasters. I was in Tel Aviv once and I was reading the Israeli newspaper. It was the day after a lot of attacks and bombardments and deaths had taken place. The Hamas had struck. But the front page of the newspaper had the picture of a Jewish gentleman who in five years had transformed his desert into an orchid and a granary. It was this inspiring picture that everyone woke up to. The gory details of killings, bombardments, deaths, were inside in the newspaper, buried among other news. In India we only read about death, sickness, terrorism, crime. Why are we so NEGATIVE? Another question: Why are we, as a nation so obsessed with foreign things? We want foreign T. Vs, we want foreign shirts. We want foreign technology. Why this obsession with everything imported. Do we not realize that self-respect comes with self-reliance? I was in Hyderabad giving this lecture, when a 14 year old girl asked me for my autograph. I asked her what her goal in life is. She replied: I want to live in a developed India . For her, you and I will have to build this developed India . You must proclaim. India is not an under-developed nation; it is a highly developed nation. Do you have 10 minutes? Allow me to come back with a vengeance. Got 10 minutes for your country? If yes, then read; otherwise, choice is yours. YOU say that our government is inefficient. YOU say that our laws are too old. YOU say that the municipality does not pick up the garbage. YOU say that the phones don't work, the railways are a joke, The airline is the worst in the world, mails never reach their destination. YOU say that our country has been fed to the dogs and is the absolute pits. YOU say, say and say. What do YOU do about it? Take a person on his way to Singapore . Give him a name - YOURS. Give him aface - YOURS. YOU walk out of the airport and you are at your International best. In Singapore you don't throw cigarette butts on the roads or eat in the stores YOU are as proud of their Underground links as they are. You pay $5 (approx. Rs. 60) to drive through Orchard Road (equivalent of Mahim Causeway or Pedder Road ) between 5 PM and 8 PM. YOU come back to the parking lot to punch your parking ticket if you have over stayed in a restaurant or a shopping mall irrespective of your status identity... In Singapore you don't say anything, DO YOU? YOU wouldn't dare to eat in public during Ramadan, in Dubai . YOU would not dare to go out without your head covered in Jeddah . YOU would not dare to buy an employee of the telephone exchange in London at 10 pounds ( Rs.650) a month to, 'see to it that my STD and ISD calls are billed to someone else.' YOU would not dare to speed beyond 55 mph (88 km/h) in Washington and then tell the traffic cop,'Jaanta hai main kaun hoon (Do you know who I am?). I am so and so's son. Take your two bucks and get lost.' YOU wouldn't chuck an empty coconut shell anywhere other than the garbage pail on the beaches in Australia and New Zealand . Why don't YOU spit Paan on the streets of Tokyo ? Why don't YOU use examination jockeys or buy fake certificates in Boston ??? We are still talking of the same YOU. YOU who can respect and conform to a foreign system in other countries but cannot in your own. You who will throw papers and cigarettes on the road the moment you touch Indian ground. If you can be an involved and appreciative citizen in an alien country, why cannot you be the same here in India ? Once in an interview, the famous Ex-municipal commissioner of Bombay , Mr. Tinaikar , had a point to make. 'Rich people's dogs are walked on the streets to leave their affluent droppings all over the place,' he said. Re: [AI] NYt
hello pankaj sir. well said. the persons who use braille for reading and writing will always prefer it because if we want to know the basic factors of education we need braille always. if we want to imagine what is particularly a letter and how words are created and what is the importance of punctuations and most importantly the pleasure of selfreading, we must know braille. so I also think that with the development of technology we deffinitely go with it but braille is an essential tool for the persons who use it. so in this message i again want to wish u on Louis Braille day and a very happy new year. thanks and regards. - Original Message - From: Pankaj Sinha sinhapanka...@gmail.com To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Tuesday, December 28, 2010 3:48 PM Subject: Re: [AI] NYt Dear All, This is not the matter of agreement or disagreement. The issue is what makes you more independent, what could be more close to your hart, What carries knowledge perse? In my opinion both braille as well as computer are the mode of education/communication. However, Braille is something which in my opinion is more closer to your hart as you can feel and visualize those letters which you have read through braille like sighted person who has read something. there is only one argument which is put forward while rejecting the use of braille is that braille books are very voluminous, I think this is not the well placed argument. Friends, let me tell you that most of the persons with visual impairment are not from well-to-do families, if they are so, most of them are from the rural background where there is neither 24 hours electricity nor well qualified engineers available in case of some defect in the computer. furthermore, in rural areas you do not have, I will say additional financial resources to meat such requirements. However, if you know braille you can make your short notesany time by using your braille making instruments. At this juncture it should be also be noted that I am ever trying to criticize or underplay the role computer or the use of computer, my only point is that if you know braille and then something else you will always have an advantage and confidence in yourself. Let us take another hypothetical example, being a person with vision impairment, you can not have access to all facilities and services and you want to keep something very confidential . What would you like to prefer? If you want to see time in your watch in a meeting would you like to use mobile phone watch software which makes noise or you would prefer to have a braille watch. ] Always remember braille is your identity and you should always feel proud of knowing the braill. I am really sorry for writing such long mail but I am always hurt when without annaylizing its importance such issues are discussed at length. what is brraille ask from those who have risen to extraordinarily height like justice Yakoob who is the judge of constitutional bench in south Africa and still uses braille while making speeches for hours and hours. Thanks to God louisse Braille who made me to refute all arguments against the use of braille. You might know the computer but you can never feel more independent or more more confident as you might feel when you know braill. It made a good reading of the experiences of this family in USA where carrying a bulky braille book may invite potential fear of stigma. Also where parents insist that their children with visual impairment are not made to do anything which other children don't do- including learning braille just to ensure (false) non-discrimination!. Perhaps the society there has outgrown and mix of such reactions could also be found in India also in varying degrees. However, to me, option of learning braille should be exercised even if it means doing something that other children don't do. It is not the question of hiding your vision impairment from others but getting prepared to deal with it. This would surely not amount to exclusion or special education. This only means you have another tool that you may or may not exercise in future! Given the advancement in technology, many persons find braille redundant, however, it is very useful for little silly things as a braille sticker on various similarly sized containers in the kitchen or on medicines pouches etc. You don't depend on a reader. It may be possible that technology may eventually make braille redundant for few individuals with means, but surely not for all the blind persons in the developing countries. Hence, braille should not be equated with or treated like a special education but as a tool that enables a blind person in absence of technology and provides an equalising environment.

' l...@voicevision.in Sent: Saturday, December 18, 2010 1:55 PM Subject: [AI] Inspiring story of a blind Indian MBA Inspiring story of a blind Indian MBA taken from rediff site Years ago as an NMIMS Mumbai student, during placements a corporate house told Ashish Goyal to find himself a job in the government sector, since it has a quota system for the physically challenged. Having turned blind in his teens because of an eye condition called retinitis pigmentosa, Ashish did not take the advice lightly. He not only got himself placed at ING Vysya but also stood second in his batch at NMIMS. Later, Ashish went on to do an MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. Today, the Mumbai boy has a plum job at JP Morgan's London operations. Over the years, Ashish has not only earned milestones in his professional space but also done plenty in his personal life -- from learning to play Brazilian drums and learning the Argentine tango to boxing and performing on stage, besides many other things. He was in India to receive the National Award for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, 2010 from the President of India. PagalGuy.com's Lajwanti D'souza talked to him what success means to a visually challenged person, what inspired him in life, how he handles depression and... his dream date woman. What does this award mean to you in real terms. Do awards make a difference at all? This award means a lot to me; it's special to be recognised and I am really humbled. Frankly it has not sunk in, meeting the President, meeting other award winners. I am really excited. The difference that this will make, well, the most important thing is that encouragement works wonders for everyone I would think. We get lost in this race called life so much, that a special moment like this makes you take a step back, acknowledge the recognition and thank God for all that has happened. It's reinvigorating to keep doing the best you can. Also, if this award helps spread awareness and change people's attitudes towards people with disabilities... that will be the best outcome. Describe what you do for a living and whether it has enriched your existence and vice-versa. I work for JP Morgan's Chief Investment Office and we help manage the bank's exposure in various markets across different geographies. It's a very significant and satisfying role at a bank like JP Morgan, which has a huge balance sheet and large exposures. Proper balance sheet management can make a tremendous impact to all stakeholders from depositors, clients to shareholders and employees. Vice-versa, well all I can say is that I am happy that I have been able to live up to expectations and hope to keep doing the same going forward. Also being a student of macro-economics and geo-politics, my job keeps me sharp and interested in this ever changing dynamic world. Do you think Indian B-schools are responsive to people with mental or physical challenges? There is this physically challenged boy fighting a long legal battle with the IIMs after being denied admission. My answer will be a little dated, as I have not lived in India for 5 years now and I applied to Indian business schools back in 2000. The main difference in my two experiences (in India and in the US) is this: abroad, there is a clear process and system to deal with students and applicants with disabilities, of course helped by regulations. Internationally, as with Wharton, it was pretty easy when it came to following the process and providing a level playing ground. Where as in India, the process was not streamlined and a lot of ad hoc decision making would need to happen on the basis of perceptions even though regulations existed. This was not just the case in B-schools, I would say that was true of most institutes. What Wharton did, was it gave me a level playing field to compete and learn on merit and that's all we require I guess... the rest is up to ability. Is there anything that you are doing or would like to do in the sphere of helping those visually challenged? I have fleetingly been in touch with this organisation

We have mostly residential students from 1st standard through 10th standard, as well as college students who go to the nearby government school, but who stay here and receive study help etc. I’ve only been here for a short time, but from what I can tell, the students are well-taken-care-of and receive a good education. They are reading Braille, using the slate, and they have a pretty good grasp of Jaws and the Microsoft programs. They have not, however, been introduced to the internet, which is one thing I am working on. They go to the park for physical exercise every afternoon. I heard that some of the students play cricket, but I haven’t yet seen this. Daily, they do yoga, pray, and sing or play an instrument. I have not yet attended an art lesson, so I can’t comment on this, but I’m looking forward to it. The teachers are really qualified, accomplished and dedicated. Our principal has a great attitude towards the independence and success of blind people, and she really does a great job managing the school. In their turn, the students are generally respectful, friendly, and willing to learn. Naturally, however, some are stronger than others, and some are more willing to study and work hard. I don’t have much with which to compare this school, but if I had a blind child, I would not mind sending her here. Please feel free to ask me any questions. This is an interesting discussion for me as someone from America, where things are pretty different. Re: [AI] disabling mouse in lenovo laptop
hi ! Actually i m using samsung's netbook which has fm key on left side of window key. Perhaps u must have it in your laptop. U have to press it with f10 and your mouse goes inactive. If u do the same process again, your mouse starts working. Thank u.
