Re: [AI] vodafone to employ partially blind people in their call centers at Gujrat

2012-10-26 Thread Zainab

Dear Friends,
I am wrriting to you from the Technical Training Institute of the Pune Blind
Men's Association, based in Pune.
This is to inform all of you that, TTI in partnership with Vodafone had
started a Call Centre in June 2012.
This call centre had employed 19 visually Challenged persons, which included
both totally blind and partially sighted persons.
The out put from this centre was very encouraging, and hence in August 2012,
TTI had also started a 3 month training programme in Call Centre Operations,
which was also partnered by Vodafone.
The trainers in this Call centre training programme were all from Vodafone
traininng centre.
TTI and vodafone intends to employ more than200 visually challenged persons
at its campus in Pune.
A number of other NGO's across Maharashtra have also shown interest in
duplicating this initiative of TTI and we hope to train students from these
organizations and send them back to be employed by the organizations and
Vodafone jointly.
TTI is extremely grateful to Vodafone Maharashtra - Goa for their extremely
positive and warm support for employing the visually challenged persons.
For any further information regarding this initiative, please feel free to
contact us at the numbers given below.

With best regards,

well said sir,
I totally agree with u.
this initiative of vodaphone should not be apreeciated by blind community.

I condemn this initiative of VODAfone as it only talks about and gives

One would also not accept it as positive beginning with the hope

partial blind over full blind .
And, in other sense it is creating a gulf between two segments as well.

 Hello access Indians,

I and my brother have the same problem of RP. I had a substantial vision
till my graduation, till my age of 19. But there after till the age of 30 it

diminished very fast. But since then for last 2 and half years it has not
 diminished significantly.

My parents were aware of the situation so they decided to keep us in the
special school. There we learned the alternative methods of studying. At the

same time we enjoyed all the moment of our vision in childhood with our
 cousins.

The only solution to the emotional problem is you must accept the reality
 right from your childhood.

Yes even today also I have the stigma of using cane for mobility. But I am
trying to come out of the stigma.

Sometime this little vision creates some funny incidences. Many a times when

I walk with my white cane some people observes me very closely. And a times

I change my direction of walking due to the barriers on the way which I can

see even before my cane hits it. So some peoples say “he is really blind or

acting”. When I wait for the bus and when I ask the number “excuse me madam

what is the number?” at that time the face of the person is really
 lookable.

So rather than regretting for what we don’t have always enjoy of what we
 have.

 Subject: Re: [AI] RP hopelessness

 Hi Ekinath,

This is a person with RP who has lost substantial part of his vision
in the last 10 years, and has only around 5% vision. I dare say that
even born blind people can not always empathise with persons with
deteriorating vision conditions. The challenges faced by these
people may seem silly to born blind people. For example, asking for
someone else's help is such an easy task for those who experienced
blindness from childhood when compared to those who loose vision
during adulthood. After all, learning cycling is easier at the age of
ten than at the age of 30! Having said this, I must admit that born
blind people have their own set of serious challenges. And please do
not think that I'm trying to create differences amongst the community.
Many born blind people on this very list have been my friends and
 mentors in my life.

Coming to your questions, my answers are as follows:

 1. Can I anyhow retain what little I have?

There is no scientifically validated treatment that can arrest the
deterioration. Though some treatments like ayurvedic treatment at
Sridheryeem, Kerala claim to do so, the experiences of patients has
not been uniform. While some have reported arrest of deterioration
for some years, others haven't got any benefit. A scientific study
has proved that protection of eyes from exposure to bright sunlight
may slow down the deterioration to some extent. And no study has
shown that intake of vitamin A can do any good in this regard. So,
the answer to this question is a sorry.

 2. If I lose all my sight will any break through treatment in future
can be availed by me because they say at least little vision is must
 to treat.

This depends upon the kind of treatment. The bionic eye, which is a
commercially available treatment option for persons with RP in some
parts of west, is useful only for those who have lost significant part
of their vision due to RP. To be more precise, it is specifically for
people like you. But its current cost is unreasonably high even for
 people in the west.

Other treatment options like gene therapy and stem cell therapy are
still under clinical trials and may take some more time before being
commercially available. But as you pointed out, gene therapy is
possible only for those who have some residual vision. But going by
what you have described, your condition in the recent past wouldn't
have been ideal for this treatment. So, there is nothing for you to
worry about because of the recent developments.

 3. I have made up my mind to enjoy every bit moment that has been given
to me before I lose all my sight.
I will take lot of leaves and plan more outings so those last moments
of light are saved in before it’s time for darkness, hmmm, no I don’t
know how to describe that but it’s more horrible than darkness.

I totally agree with you on this. Enjoy whatever vision you have.
That's what I do, especially with my fast deteriorating vision
condition.Make lot of outings, see beautiful places, meet lot of
people to capture their images so that you can visualise them even
after turning blind, see beautiful heroines in films (smile), and do
anything and everything that you feel like doing with your residual
 vision.

Subject: [SayEverything] Yesterdays radio retina india show

   Dear all,
you are aware of the fact that retina india pune chapter organized a
picnic to mahabaleswar on the occasion of world retina day.
The motive of pune chapter was to spread awareness amongst the people that
visually impaired people can travel alone and are not always dependent on
sighted people. However, the motive declared on retina radio show was
totally misconceptualized. I feel sorry to say that the radio team even did
not bother to consult our coordinator before giving any information on the
radio. We don't understand the reasoning behind the statement The pune
chapter had gone to mahabaleswar and spoke about retinal diseases .
needless to say that within 19 VI people and only 3 sighted people, we VI
people manage all by ourselves. We did Boating and horse riding. and one of
our member rode the horse by himself. please can the radio team explain this
 statement?
   Thanks and regards,
   Rohiet A. Patil

hello friends, I have made that site for the community not for me, and I
know it was helping many people. many friends helped me in that and I am
thankful to them but today's incident has hurt me. if some one has done
any work for the site I always told him or her to write their name. at the
same time I do not want someone else to take credit for my hard work.
today the site has 1 GB space, it has many useful tips articles and
search engines, it took a lot of my time and effort to create it. anyone
can create their website with their content and make it useful for the
community but the credit should be given to the real person. in view of
recent development the site will be down until further information, I was
having many new ideas to expand it like teaching programming etc but
unfortunately it has to be postponed now, but I will try to create another
website with more content very soon. friends people helping me had access
to all the data of my website so another website can be created using all
that content. take care, regards, ashish

A friend returned from Eastern (Communist) Europe narrated the following
story during the rounds in these countries. One morning a school girl came
to her teacher and said very proudly: Our cat has had a litter of six
kittens and they are all Communists. The teacher was impressed with the
child and invited the Inspector to visit the school and see for himself how
well-doctrinated her students were. A week later the inspector arrived.
Tell the gentleman about your cat,'' the teacher asked her student.

She has had kittens and they are all democrats, said the girl.

What!,exclaimed the teacher aghast and let down, last week you told me
they were all Communists. What makes you say now they are democrats?

Since then their eyes have opened, replied the student.

A wealthy Maheshwari, the richest of the Marwari community, was
complaining about his wife's spendthrift habits to a friend. One day she
asked me for ten rupees, the next day she asked me for twenty and this
morning she wanted twenty-five. She is the limit.

She certainly is, agreed the friend. What did she do with all that
 money?

Main kya jaanoon'' (how should I know), replied the wealthy man. I never
 gave her any.''

An inspector of schools went to a government aided school and put the
following question to students of sixth class: You have read the
Ramayana. Tell me who broke the Shiva'sdhanush? Only one boy raised his
hand : Sir, I do not know who broke it but it was not me.

The inspector turned to the teacher and reprimanded him for not having
done his job. The teacher replied: Sir, the boy is very naughty. I am
sure it was he who broke it, but will not admit it.

The inspector went to the headmaster and narrated the whole story. After
hearing him the headmaster said: Why make a fuss about such a petty
thing. Whatever is broken is broken for ever. While paying us the grant
you may deduct the price of a new dhanush and pay the balance.

 Dear Harish,

Aerobic walking recommended by cardiologists is a really brisk walk,
covering about 5 km in 50 minutes. I doubt if we can replicate it indoors
 without using a TM.

As for Yoga, yes, it is an option, but, can one learn it after losing
sight ? The various asanas have to be performed very deliberately and
with regulated breathing and can trainers communicate all these nuances
effectively to us ? And, is Yoga really aerobic the same way that
walking, jogging or swimming are ?

Sorry for posing more queries. (smile)

 Hi folks !

With the kind permission of our beloved moderator, I would like to pose a
few, non-techy queries to the list.

We are advised to do aerobic exercises, viz. exercises like walking,
jogging, swimming etc where the heart also exercises along with other
parts of the body, to keep our body parameters like BP, blood sugar,
cholesterol etc in check. Being visually challenged and
mobility-impaired, most of the recommended exercises are out of bounds
 for
me and, may be, most of us.

So, how do you people keep in shape ?

Do any of you use tread mills ? If so, are they safe for us ? What
additional safety features do we have to look for while buying a TM ?
What other alternatives are there ? (Recently, I came across a strange
 new
exercising machine that costs just Rs 7500 where one can lie on one's
 back
and keep the feet on its pedals that then move on electric power. Pl see
 morningwalker.com for more details.)

Please share your valuable experiences in remaining healthy with our
disability. Being on the wrong side of forty and with a sedentary yet
stressful IT job, I look forward to your valuable inputs for keeping my
 body and soul together. (smile)

 Happy Holi and thanks...

 Rgds

A BLIND PERSON CAN LEARN ANY Asan in Yoga. But be careful about alignment
which is very important in Yoga.
Some poses need proper alignment of different organs/limbs of our
 body--like
stretching your legs/hands etc. parallel to each other.

 Hi Anubha,

BPO stands for Business Process outsourcing. so it may include anything
which a business does i.e. HR functions, accounting, collection or
 customer
care. Mostly call centers are outsourced due to the fact that it does not
make much difference to the end users with regard to what location you
 are
 calling.

company's strategy usually is to outsource the supporting functions of a
business and focus on the core issue. So if you are in a business of
 selling
chocolates, you would not like to be dragged in day to day operations of
managing salaries and maintaining the account books. You would rather
 like
to focus your attention on getting the best chocolates and ensuring that
 you
are providing what your buyers actually need.

So a credit card company may outsource billing and collection and focus
 on
increasing their customer base and ensuring the current customer
 satisfaction.

However some companies also outsource core functions, such as some news
papers are outsourcing article writing, and online research, but they
 then
get resources to focus on issues which can not be done offline or need
special attention i.e. the reporter has to be at the location where the
event happens or conducting the interviews of celebrities can only be
 done
 by very expert people.

The following list is not exhaustive, but it may provide you some idea.

Call centers (receiving calls [ticket booking for airlines, tech support
 for
tech companies, customer care for credit card and banking companies,
insurance companies, and other types of customers], telemarketing and
 medical transcription.

Hr (salary slips, attendance, and other employee services)

Following are considered knowledge process outsourcing

Legal work also called Legal Process outsourcing (LPO), financial
 research
 of companies, and journalism.

These days even medical advice is being outsourced and a few days back I
read that people are also providing teaching services from remote
 locations.

Subject: [AI] nokia 3230 with talk/mobile

 Hi Friends
Need some advise on buying a mobile phone which can be used with
talk/mobile speak. Actuall my need is a handset with fm radio feature
so I landed up with only one model which nokia 3230. But my problem is
that 3-4 people have told me that it is not a good model as it hangs
alot. Is there anybody on the list who is using this model then please
write to me. Also guide any other model with fm radio feature.
 Many thanks in anticipation
 Regards
 Archana
