Sir, what dignity you are talking about?
Is this right way to fun?
I have seen that act performed by Krishna.
It must be condemned.
Will they dare to make fun of st sc and minority in such way?
The answer is no.
Then why on us?
Don't we know how to spend first night?
It's harmful to be always positive.
There will be many sighted persons will ask us about first night.
Then what will we answer them?
In short they have no right to perform such kind of shameless act.
Thanks...

Sentiments may obviously be hurt, but if one is going to look at it as
an insult to a community by large, then none of us has the right to
move a muscle when jokes on the Parcis, Punjabis/Sardars,
Tamilians/Annas and Gujjus. For that matter not even if cracked on
terrorists, politicians and so on. They are all communities at the end
of the day.

It is insensitive for sure, but my thought is a revolt against this is
just going to portray every visually impaired individual as someone on
whom no fun can be poked at, which according to me is very dangerous.

Dear Surendra
Firstly, I am not a big personality as you have alleged.
Secondly, the solution I propose is not as far fetched or unrealistic as you
and some others think.
Thirdly, nobody has yet given me a link to watch and have the videos concerned
audio described, or even has had the courage to describe the offending scenes
for the benefit of those who have not seen/heard it.
So, I am taking myself out of this debate and any action regarding the same for
the time being.

Hello all,
@Rajesh sir:I absolutely agree with you on the point of sending the
video clips. However, I wish we could have done so in real.

@Shriram:its correct that humour doesn’t question anyone’s dignity,
however, it makes the fun of disability and this has exactly has
happened this time!!!
It is the well established legal principal that intent is inferred
from the conduct and not from your mind or your thoughts.

Those who have seen the clip, know well that at the end, they realized
that something went a bit wrong and there is no need to take this act
seriously. Every criminal gives the justification of its crime

It is also absolutely correct that Legislation or court orders do not
bring about attitudinal change. It is social engagement that brings
about greater understanding and deeper appreciation of each other. It,
however, doesn’t mean that guilty should go unpunished.

As far my views are concern, no communication with soni TV and comedy
circus except defamation notice is required.

Thanks and regards,
Akhilesh.

Sentiments may obviously be hurt, but if one is going to look at it as
an insult to a community by large, then none of us has the right to
move a muscle when jokes on the Parcis, Punjabis/Sardars,
Tamilians/Annas and Gujjus. For that matter not even if cracked on

It is insensitive for sure, but my thought is a revolt against this is

Legislation or court orders do not bring about attitudinal change. It is
social engagement that brings about greater understanding and deeper
appreciation of each other. My experience says that the onus is entirely
with us the Vis to bring about change in attitudes towards us. By getting
angry and screaming foul does not get us anywhere. Well this is strictly my
view.

Re: [AI] Mockery of V.C Persons in Comedy Circus

2012-08-24 Thread Shriram
For starters humor doesn’t question anyone’s dignity according to me.
Talking about poking fun at SCST, aren’t the politicians doing that
day-in day-out? In the name of support and upliftment it’s a
subsidized mockery. Well! That’s a different issue all together and in
a country where governance is driven by ‘issue-based politics’ the
condemnable acts sit pretty around the television of our living rooms.
Coming back to the topic: Subhash is absolutely right that we need to
reinforce the measures, but shouting about it is going to yield us
Anna Hazare of July 2012. It needs to be addressed amidst a different
background. Again, my concern with voicing against this specific issue
was backed by a very simple fact of the situation being a comedy show.
Secondly we can ask the television programmers to include a mandate in
their protocol, or have a disclaimer in the beginning of the show,
which according to me is a MUST saying “The acts and opinions of the
performers, judges and other participants is purely for entertainment
and the content seeks to hurt, distress, downplay and demean any cast,
secular set, association of persons, differently-abled, and any other
clusters formed on the basis of community, race, income, gender, age
and nationality.”

Will they dare to make fun of st sc and minority in such way?
The answer is no.
Then why on us?
Don’t we know how to spend first night?
It’s harmful to be always positive.
There will be many sighted persons will ask us about first night.
Then what will we answer them?
In short they have no right to perform such kind of shameless act.
Thanks…

Re: [AI] Mockery of V.C Persons in Comedy Circus

2012-08-24 Thread SC Vashishth
Dear George/ Shriram,

While I agree that we must take all fun poked at VH community positively so
that this community is not portrayed by society as someone on whom no fun
can be poked at. But at the same time, I feel that there is urgent need to
reinforce Article 8 of UNCRPD that is reproduced below. I hope it is not
considered like teaching to the choir but we need to keep reminding
ourselves about these rights available to us and the challenges that we
face in realizing these rights.

*Article 8 - Awareness-raising*

1. States Parties undertake to adopt immediate, effective and appropriate
measures:

   1. To raise awareness throughout society, including at the family level,
regarding persons with disabilities, and to foster respect for the rights
   and dignity of persons with disabilities;
   2. To combat stereotypes, prejudices and harmful practices relating to
persons with disabilities, including those based on sex and age, in all
   areas of life;
   3. To promote awareness of the capabilities and contributions of persons
   with disabilities.

Measures to this end include:

   1. Initiating and maintaining effective public awareness campaigns
   designed:
  1. To nurture receptiveness to the rights of persons with
  disabilities;
  2. To promote positive perceptions and greater social awareness
  towards persons with disabilities;
  3. To promote recognition of the skills, merits and abilities of
persons with disabilities, and of their contributions to the
workplace and
  the labour market;
   2. Fostering at all levels of the education system, including in all
children from an early age, an attitude of respect for the rights of
   persons with disabilities;
   3. Encouraging all organs of the media to portray persons with
disabilities in a manner consistent with the purpose of the present
   Convention;
   4. Promoting awareness-training programmes regarding persons with
disabilities and the rights of persons with disabilities.

regards
Subhash

Bingoh,

Both the messages sum up my take on it.

We should focus our energy on constructive actions than

This is a very sensible response. In fact we need to focus on sending out
positive messages rather than reacting to negativity. Mindsets have to be
changed through positive engagements rather than bitter encounters which
will only worsen our status.
