Dear Surendra Firstly, I am not a big personality as you have alleged. Secondly, the solution I propose is not as far fetched or unrealistic as you and some others think. Thirdly, nobody has yet given me a link to watch and have the videos concerned audio described, or even has had the courage to describe the offending scenes for the benefit of those who have not seen/heard it. So, I am taking myself out of this debate and any action regarding the same for the time being. -Original Message- From: accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Surendra Salgaonkar) Sent: Sunday, August 26, 2012 2:22 PM To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in; accessindia@accessindia.org.in Cc: Kotian, H P Subject: Re: [AI] Mockery of V.C Persons in Comedy Circus Look what comment the big personalitys are making. Legislation or court orders do not bring about attitudinal change. It is social engagement that brings about greater understanding and deeper appreciation of each other. My experience says that the onus is entirely with us the Vis to bring about change in attitudes towards us. By getting angry and screaming foul does not get us anywhere. Well this is strictly my view. -Original Message- From: accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of SC Vashishth Sent: 24 August 2012 15:05 To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Subject: Re: [AI] Mockery of V.C Persons in Comedy Circus Dear George/ Shriram, While I agree that we must take all fun poked at VH community positively so that this community is not portrayed by society as someone on whom no fun can be poked at. Re: [AI] Mockery of V.C Persons in Comedy Circus
For starters humor doesn’t question anyone’s dignity according to me. Talking about poking fun at SCST, aren’t the politicians doing that day-in day-out? In the name of support and upliftment it’s a subsidized mockery. Well! That’s a different issue all together and in a country where governance is driven by ‘issue-based politics’ the condemnable acts sit pretty around the television of our living rooms. Coming back to the topic: Subhash is absolutely right that we need to reinforce the measures, but shouting about it is going to yield us Anna Hazare of July 2012. It needs to be addressed amidst a different background. Again, my concern with voicing against this specific issue was backed by a very simple fact of the situation being a comedy show. Secondly we can ask the television programmers to include a mandate in their protocol, or have a disclaimer in the beginning of the show, which according to me is a MUST saying “The acts and opinions of the performers, judges and other participants is purely for entertainment and the content seeks to hurt, distress, downplay and demean any cast, secular set, association of persons, differently-abled, and any other clusters formed on the basis of community, race, income, gender, age and nationality.” -- "Excuses are reasons only when there are no practical solutions to a problem." Re: [AI] Mockery of V.C Persons in Comedy Circus
This is a very sensible response. In fact we need to focus on sending out positive messages rather than reacting to negativity. Mindsets have to be changed through positive engagements rather than bitter encounters which will only worsen our status. -Original Message- From: accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Shriram Sent: 23 August 2012 16:46 To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Subject: Re: [AI] Mockery of V.C Persons in Comedy Circus Sentiments may obviously be hurt, but if one is going to look at it as an insult to a community by large, then none of us has the right to move a muscle when jokes on the Parcis, Punjabis/Sardars, Tamilians/Annas and Gujjus.
