Hi Pallavi, In your case, I second the views of proff. Umesh. not only in teaching field, we have this kind of problems in all walks of our day today life. Around Karnataka, there are many VI S successfully working as lecturers and professors in different colleges. If you wish to have their contact details, contact me off the list. I'll share those details with their permission. and Don't lose hope, keep trying. all the very best. At Mr. Vivekananda, Now in Karnataka that situation is improved quite a lot. Due to NFB and other few such NGO's regular legal intervention with the government, More than 150 VI friends have been already appointed as first and second divisional assistants in various departments across Karnataka. And more than 20 are going to join as panchayath development officers at different panchayath levels. I am glad to tell you that I'd be one among them. And the state govt has agreed to revise the jobs as per the central govt list. The pressure is still on for the clearance of backlogs. Yes Manjunath I agree with you, only in recent few years back Visually Impaired are appointed in few jobs, but still in Primary school high school teachers are not appointed and whoever are appointed in government services in Karnataka please write about their condition also. Hi Vivekananda, what I think out of my short period of experience is that situation might have changed substantially from past 14 years when you left the state. I don't commit the mistake of saying that the situation is entirely good. I also faced problems like those of Pallavi in the year of 2008. but what I meant to say is that Karnataka is not relatively bad in terms of attitude towards visually challenged. it is as bad as other states of the country and not worse than others. Hi, This is a problem which every visually impaired person has been forced to confront at least once in his or her life.. There are a few ways of tackling this: Firstly, we should be able to portray our blindness in a positive manner.. The battle to compete in a world which has essentially been designed to cater to the needs of the sighted greatly enhances our problem-solving skills.. Employers are always looking for employees who have good problem-solving skills and the ability to think out of the box, so we should try to use this advantage to the best of our ability.. Secondly, we should be prepared to give convincing answers in order to address their key concerns. I don't think we should blame an employer for having some valid and justified concerns. This can be done by giving examples of other successful visually impaired people in that field, enumerating our previous accomplishments and sharing constructive methods of confronting various impediments that might arise in future. All the aforementioned actions reflect one's sincerity, genuine interest in getting the job and determination which are all highly sought-after qualities. Such a social attitude towards visually challenged is really bad!! If the lecture of any visually challenged is interesting and helpfull, why the students will do any mischief inside the class? If the lecture of any person with perfect organs is not interesting, the students will try to bunk the class. is that not mischievous nature of students??? The person can draw the interest and attention of people by their perfect works, but not by perfect organs. Am I right? Is there no value for our hard work and education, that were earned by spending years together??? If it was a private college, It is best to approach the Private run colleges with some references and inform them beforehand that you’re a visually-impaired candidate. Dear pallavi, No need to lose your heart and hope. Consider the fact that being a visually impaired, we have to confront such challenges in every aspect of our life. Never the less, life does not end here and we have to enjoy facing these challenges to achieve our consummation. My advice would be to talk to the Principal and other concerned people of that College saying at least: “Sir, even though you have not hired me inspite of finding the requisite qualification and skills, however, would like to tell you that many visually impaired teachers and lecturers have been successfully fulfilling their responsibilities in various Colleges and universities in India.” Also show them some examples. It is not necessary that they would be convinced and hire you but it is our responsibility to try and make the people aware. Remember, that is not only a college for you, there might be some other colleges or schools where your talent and skills would have the best place and you would be a potential employee of that institute.
