Hi Aishwarya, The mentioned below courses I have completed from mainstreem institutes with very good learning experience. 1 Web development course from the institute 'IMAGE for Multi-media and web designing' Hyderabad 2. Language C from 'Aptech' Bangalore. 3. 'Aptech' Hyderabad was also ready for teaching the programming languages such as C++, Java, dotnet, etc., couldn't persue cause of time constrain with job. **Had very bad experience with NIIT Hyderabad. Crafts (any place where a VI can learn to make crafts) 'Devnar Foundation for the Blind' in Hyderabad can be contacted.I'm not sure what type of courses they run you can call and find with them. I have googled couple of your requirements with the terms you have mentioned in mail, there is lot of information, both national and internationally. You can contact them and take detailed information as well. Music- I used to normally learn Indian Vocal Music with sighted people so singing is not a problem. For learning musical instruments online a person named Bill Brown has made audio tutorials for the visually impaired to teach guitar, flute, piano etc. Literature- These days Bookshare has become popular. However, I search the web for ebooks and always have been successful till now. Sports- Organisations such as YMCA are quite good and I learn swimming there. Re: [AI] Request for information on Leisure and recreation
Dear Aishwarya, I remember a mountaineering training available for visually challenged. Our moderator, Harish sir has done it in the past. He'll be able to throw more light on it. As Ekinath rightly mentioned, try giving all the possible information about the ways they can do this recreation stuff with the available main stream media. Don't let them feel that they have to do it with some specialized platforms. Especially with the available social platforms like FP, let them learn things by interacting with, and on, the main stream platforms. Also, let them feel that the way to go ahead in life is only, and only, by staying connected with their surrounding environment, whether it be real or virtual. If you take it in the right spirit, the actual objective of the site should be that they should decide they need not visit this site again as they would not realize the necessity of such thing.
