Re: [AI] Response from SBI on Capture.

2019-08-27 Thread Pranav Lal
Hi George and all,

Let me give the developer perspective here. The problem is that different
browser vendors implement web standards differently. The implication of this
is that if I write one line of a program to say, display the play button,
chrome and Firefox may display said button but safari may not. This is more an
issue with what browser one tests with and what the development contract says
should be the supported browsers assuming such a thing is even specified. There
are no simple answers.

Image Captchas can be cracked using neural networks therefore their benefits
are illusory. They prevent basic attacks certainly hence are still necessary.
Note:
Microsoft no longer supports Internet explorer except for giving security
updates. You need to move to edge and chrome. I realize this is difficult in
enterprise environments because corporates are really slow in upgrading. If
you absolutely must bank from within an enterprise environment then seek for an
exception and get your browser of choice installed. Chrome can indeed be
managed by enterprise IT infrastructure. I speak from experience.

Friends, there's still a work around to play the audio captcha on the SBI
site with Internet Explorer. Although there's no labled button to play the
audio captcha, if you check the box for audio captcha, and then turn your
virtual cursor off by hitting insert+z, then pressing control+P will play
the audio captcha and you can repeat it as many times as you can. However,
there's a catch to it, once you land up on the login page of SBI, you'll
first have to allow windows media plugin by pressing Alt+N if you get the
promtp. You can then allow the same by choosing always allow so that you
don't have to do it again and again. I've done it successfully and am now
able to listen to the captcha using IE11.

Thanks.

I agree we need to be constructive even in our criticism. But that
doesn't mean our concerns are any less important. If they bring in
captcha without any accessible alternative, that is a trash move for
us and is not in line with the letter and spirit of the law of the
land and they need to be told the same. But when they have listened to
us and introduced voice captcha that is a a mostly working but not
adequate solution, think we need to be milder the we approach them,
need to consistently give feedback and try and make them understand
our perspective better.
In any case, whether captcha is a major security feature is highly
disputed by tech experts themselves, so in bringing about such a
rather unreliable solution, don't think the bank can get away by
saying that security is more important than accessibility. Remember
many of the global banks, even banks bigger than SBI across the globe,
many of them don't use captcha. One thing I am concerned about the SBI
move, is that the country's largest bank is also a trend setter. So if
other banks would also start on the same front, then we surely will
have a huge problem on our hands as many have an atrocious record in
dealing with concerns of visually impaired and other disabled people.
so while we do need to be constructive and non-confrontational as much
as possible, we need to be strong too.

2019-08-27 Thread Aravind R
as a banker, i am expressing what i have observed friends. banks are
not dictating which browsers we have to use. the software vendors do
such things and without technical knowledge of web designing and
security issues, we cannot say why software vendors are dictating
banks. Microsoft wants its users to be pushed to edge so IE11 is not
coming with proper updates. So, in my bank, finacle is working at IE11
with downward compatibility to IE9 but new packages for recovery,
wealth solutions are working in chrome only or IE11 as lowest browser.

true sir, but, now most of the web pages are not compatible with ie11. e.g.
you can't access IRCTC with ie11. Older version of java runtime, dotnet etc
also has become incompatible with newer versions of web browsers. Also you
can't install older versions of many addons and web browsers in windows 10
PCs.

Sir

We thank you for the feedback and would like to advise that we are
aware of the issues the captcha would create for our Visually
Challenged customers and sincerely regret the inconvenience
caused.

However in view of the huge increase in failed login attempts on
the INB system which signals a brute force attack by criminals,
this initiative was taken as a quick fix measure to protect the
interests of crores of INB customers.

We would like to advise you that a Voice Captcha is under development
and we expect to roll it out by 27/08/2019. This would enable our
esteemed VC customers like yourself also to use INB independently.

We request you to bear with this mild inconvenience for few days,
in the interests of enhanced security of your account and funds.

Please feel free to reach out to me for any further assistance

Hi all,

Audio captcha not working on many browsers like Safari. Also, it won't be
accessible for people with hearing impairment. Even for visually impaired
people it won't be feasible in many circumstances. Hence advocacy must continue
for OTP option to verify user or else to do away with captcha altogether.

Regards.

SBI in India has been known for it's excellent service to persons with

Dear Sir/Madam,

The SBI netbanking sight:

https://ind01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fretail.onlinesbi.com%2Fretail%2Flogin.htm%23data=02%7C01%7Cgm.digicomm%40sbi.co.in%7C8fb6876360844708fde608d7249d6a4b%7Cfbdb22357f504509b407c58325ec27a8%7C0%7C0%7C637018130814388591sdata=WEAFOZhasO9lbizHDGaaJW%2FpCYh%2BcZYuoGklTpQOTjo%3Dreserved=0

has been inaccessible to visually challenged/print disabled customers
for the past few days as the sight administration introduced capture
verification code. SBI in India has been known for it's excellent
service to persons with disability and this latest decision to
introduce capture verification code on the SBI netbanking sight is
unfortunate. We have been receiving cold response from SBI customer
Service executives on this matter. As SBI netbanking already has
security features included at multiple stages of it's navigation,
kindly consider our situation and take back the capture code from the
netbanking sight.

Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Vetri.
