One of the most heartening experiences I had is visiting some of the V I women from rural areas who take training in independent living skills from Mitrajyothi here in Bangalore. Meeting them, it is quite clear how far lack of freedom can affect women. Some of them mentioned with pride how learning to live independently can transform their lives. For example, I met a woman who wasn't allowed to step out of her house for the best part of her 36 year existence expressed her desire to work and live for herself. Of course one organisation can touch a few women like her, but the difference such training can make is there for all of us to see.
