Sir, thanks for the conformation, initially, it happens. Windows 10 has the
capabilities in remembering things.
Next time, when you start frequent searches for the same programmes the
results may appear quickly.
Also, I feel that, some time, with the cumulative updates make problems.

3. press ctrl shift d for the default configuration.
4. in the search, type start and wait for the results. You may get the
result which says "Start menu: Access Out-of-Process"
5. press tab and check the check box which says "Start menu: Access
Out-of-Process" and see if it works.

Note: this trick works only with the licensed or demo versions of the jaws.

[AI] : Search for suitable spouse on behalf of friend

2013-04-19 Thread ss sarfudeen
Dear all,

I fully agree with Srikanth on his views about the posting of marriage
searches on the list. I wonder if only matters relating to policy,
employment, technology, accessibility and so on are important to vision
impaired people and not marriage. Why do members try to instruct the
moderator or warn other members when some unusual but relevant issue
is discussed on this platform? Let's respect others and refrain from
regulating posts made by fellow members.

Regards,

Sultana

Re: [AI] Search for suitable spouse on behalf of friend

2013-04-19 Thread srikanth bolla
I agree with you Avinash.
What's wrong in discussing a major important issue of search for
potential life partner? When we are discussing about far less important
things like exchanging the contact information and other stuffed, posting a
search for spouse is completely acceptable since most of our members of
blind and also this creates awareness but not whilates the list guidelines.
By the way, people hardly know about AI guidelines. It would be helpful if
the guidelines are circulated once in a month or two to update all new
members. To be honest, I don't know the guidelines. Regards,

Mohib, before asking this, why didn't you think liking and softness varies
widely?
Some people are fond of Rani Mukherjee, and some are of Kajole?
And, DU, yes DU. that's my friend's personal choice. In fact, I also asked
him, why not from JNU? he said, no JNUites are difficult to handle after
marriage,smiles.
Finally, I wonder, why people unnecessarily jump for regulating posts?
perhaps due to right to speech and expression, here right to textual freedom
at play.
I am well-aware of AI's guidelines, and I had mentioned this well in front.
So please, don't attempt to regulate which is not warranted.
Since majority of members blind here, seeking for blind partner should be
facilitated on the list,if possible.
But it would be better if people ask their queries and help off the list.
Don't trouble those, who have nothing to do with such posts, and their
in-box get flooded with this thread.

Re: [AI] Search for suitable spouse on behalf of friend

2013-04-18 Thread Rahul Bajaj
I have always observed that we waste far too much time in framing guidelines
about what cannot be discussed instead of focusing on what can be discussed..
A platform like AccessIndia can be very effectively used to discuss all aspects
of blindness..
Half of the posts here are made to urge the moderator to close a discussion.
Wouldn't it be more prudent to simply have the discussion and get over with it?
Of course, spam messages, etc should never be allowed, but I, for one, see no
harm in discussing such pertinent issues or in congratulating someone on the
list for their achievement..
We must remember that this list is meant to facilitate discussions, not to
hinder them..
Needless to say, these are purely my own views.

Guys I don't understand why this platform is not right to discuss social
issues. We are here to discuss various issues and solve problems faced by
visually challenged people. I don't see this notification is wrong since
this platform has big number of people, I feel marriage search is completely
valid. I think all list members should vote and make new guidelines for
this platform rather than depend on the old draft of guidelines made by
someone whom we don't know. When we are discussing about marriages and
other social, cultural, sexual issues of disabled people, why is marriage
research email wrong? Regards,

Hi list Member!

   Just FYI.

Using Search Engines to Find Information on the Web

Search Engines

Search engines on the World Wide Web are remotely accessible programs that
let you do keyword searches for information on the Internet. There are
several

types of search engines and searches may cover titles of documents, URL's,
headers, or full text. Keep in mind that the results you get from one
search

engine may not match the results you get from another search engine. In
fact, they are often different due to the way each search engine behaves.
Therefore,

it may actually be beneficial to use more than one search engine on a
regular basis.

In this section, we will briefly look at Google and Yahoo. Web pages are
often dynamic and can change at any time. As a result, you may find that
if

either

site changes, your experience with JAWS may be different than what is
described.

Google.com

When you first go to the

Google Web site

there is a blinking cursor in an edit box where you can type the word or
phrase that you are interested in. The first thing you need to do is press
the

ENTER key to go into Forms Mode with JAWS. Once you are in Forms Mode, you
can then type in keywords that will define your search. After you have
typed

in some text, press ENTER to activate the Search button.

Google only returns Web pages that contain all of the words in your query.
If you find that you get too many "hits" or Web pages that match your
search,

you can enter more words in your search query to narrow the choices.

Using good keywords gives you better results. Be as specific as you can.
For

example, a search for the keyword "musicians" will yield far more results
than

a search for the keywords "Elvis Presley." You do not need to include
"and"
between terms, but the order in which you type your keywords will affect
the

search results. You can also search for a specific phrase by including
words

in quotation marks. Google searches are not case sensitive.

You can also use the following items within your keywords for Google
searches:

. + (plus) sign. Causes Google to include common words or characters that
Google normally might ignore, such as "where" and "how." If a common word
is

important

in getting the results you want, you can include it by putting a "+" sign
in

front of it. (Be sure to include a space before the "+" sign.)

. - (minus) sign. Causes Google to exclude a word from your search. For
example, "bass" can refer to fishing or music. You can exclude
music-related

hits

by searching for "bass -music." (Be sure to include a space before the
minus

sign.)

. ~ (tilde) sign. Causes Google to include synonyms of a particular
keyword

in the search.

. OR searches are also supported. Use an uppercase OR between terms.

The I'm Feeling LuckyT button takes you directly to the first Web page
Google returned for your query. You will not see the other search results
at

all.

For example, to find the home page for Stanford University, simply enter
"Stanford" into the search box and choose the I'm Feeling LuckyT button.
Google

takes you directly to www.stanford.edu, the official home page of Stanford
University.

To find listings for a US residence, type any of the following
combinations

into the Google search box:

. first name (or first initial), last name, city (state is optional)

. first name (or first initial), last name, state

. first name (or first initial), last name, area code

. first name (or first initial), last name, zip code

. phone number, including area code

. last name, city, state

. last name, zip code

Try a search for Freedom Scientific.

Use this link to go to the Google Web site.

On the results page, there are a couple of things you can do to get more
information about the results of the search:

. The statistics of your search are typically placed between the search
edit

box and the search results. You can press DOWN ARROW a few times to find
this

line or you can use the JAWS find command CTRL+F to look for the words
"Personalized Results" and then read that line. For example, when testing
this the

search found "Personalized Results 1 - 10 of about 37,700,000 for Freedom
Scientific. (0.11 seconds)." This can be useful if you need to narrow the
search.

. The items found as a result of your search are placed on the page as
both
links and headings. You can press the navigation quick key H to move
quickly

among the headings that match your search. Since they are also links, you
can press ENTER to activate them and move to those Web pages of interest.

. Below each heading (and link) that match yo

. - (minus) sign. Causes Google to exclude a word from your search. For
example, "bass" can refer to fishing or music. You can exclude music-related
hits

by searching for "bass -music." (Be sure to include a space before the minus
sign.)

. ~ (tilde) sign. Causes Google to include synonyms of a particular keyword
in the search.

. OR searches are also supported. Use an uppercase OR between terms.

The I'm Feeling LuckyT button takes you directly to the first Web page
Google returned for your query. You will not see the other search results at
all.

For example, to find the home page for Stanford University, simply enter
"Stanford" into the search box and choose the I'm Feeling LuckyT button.
Google

takes you directly to www.stanford.edu, the official home page of Stanford
University.

To find listings for a US residence, type any of the following combinations
into the Google search box:

. first name (or first initial), last name, city (state is optional)

. first name (or first initial), last name, state

. first name (or first initial), last name, area code

. first name (or first initial), last name, zip code

. phone number, including area code

. last name, city, state

. last name, zip code

Try a search for Freedom Scientific.

Use this link to go to the Google Web site.

On the results page, there are a couple of things you can do to get more
information about the results of the search:

. The statistics of your search are typically placed between the search edit
box and the search results. You can press DOWN ARROW a few times to find
this

line or you can use the JAWS find command CTRL+F to look for the words
"Personalized Results" and then read that line. For example, when testing
this the

search found "Personalized Results 1 - 10 of about 37,700,000 for Freedom
Scientific. (0.11 seconds)." This can be useful if you need to narrow the
search.

. The items found as a result of your search are placed on the page as both
links and headings. You can press the navigation quick key H to move quickly

among the headings that match your search. Since they are also links, you
can press ENTER to activate them and move to those Web pages of interest.

. Below each heading (and link) that match your search is a short synopsis
of what that page is about. After pressing H to move to a heading (link)
just

press DOWN ARROW to read the text below it for more information.

. Remember, you can also press SHIFT+H to move backwards.

You can also read through the search results page using normal reading keys
or use INSERT+F

[AI] search services a waty forward

2008-06-29 Thread Rajesh Asudani
30/&prd=biz&30/&prd=biz& Search services: a way forward

Present a set of tools for navigating an article with
ease

Despite the availability of effective search services (like Google and several
others) new search services appear regularly. After a short spell, NetSpeak
takes yet another look at the latest offerings from the Net's ever-active
search services segment. When mainstream search engines fail to obtain relevant
output, one takes recourse to domain-specific search tools. People from all
walks of life use Wikipedia, the on-line encyclopedia, extensively.

Those of you who visit Wikipedia to obtain in-depth information on specific
subjects may find the search service Powerset (
http://www.powerset.com/
), which searches Wikipedia articles, convenient.

When you invoke keyword/key-phrase search for a topic of your interest,
Powerset brings to you all the Wikipedia articles with this query-word/phrase.

Further, when you explore a specific article, the service presents a set of
tools for navigating the article with ease. Powerset comprehends simple
questions
too. This means you can frame good questions and obtain prompt answers.

The search service, Qwika (
http://www.qwika.com/
), which indexes content from Wiki sites, is another special search tool worth
a test.

As mentioned in the past, several search engines, meant for providing
information on health issues are in place. IMedix (
http://www.imedix.com/
) is one such search service worth a trial, when a disease troubles you/your
acquaintance.

An innovative feature of this service is the facility to interact/share
information among people with similar health issues. Another vertical search
service
worth navigating for health information is the site 'Health Revolution' (
http://www.revolutionhealth.com/
). Of late, blogs are acknowledged as an important content
dissemination/discussion tool. Irrespective of your profession, blogs provide
you the latest
trends in your area. One way to keep up with blog content is to enlist the
service of a blog search engine (like Technorati).

In this regard, you may take note of the entry of a new blog search engine
called Twingly (
http://www.twingly.com/
). This blog search tool, projected as 'spam-free blog search engine', allows a
user to enrich its index by voting on the links she visits.

Appropriate discussion forums or bulletin boards are excellent means for
eliciting answers to questions pertaining to various subjects.

Discussion-board web pages are less likely to appear in the beginning of the
search output from a popular search engine. Search engines that solely index
discussion board content could help us solve this issue. The discussion board
search engine Twing (
http://www.twing.com/
) is a product serving this premise.

Most books and documents are now available in PDF format. Before visiting your
favourite search engine to find a link to an e-book on a topic, a few minutes
stay at the search service 'PDF Search Engine' (
http://www.pdf-search-engine.com/
) could fetch you rich dividends.

For instance, if you wish to find books on a topic say, 'theory of relativity,'
initiate a search with the word 'theory of relativity'. The service will
immediately present links to numerous books on this subject. Once the link to a
book is found, the site allows you to preview it before downloading. If
instruction manual for a product is missing, the search service 'SafeManuals'
(http://safemanuals.com/) could come in handy.

Hitlinkz (
http://www.hitlinkz.com/
) is yet another site made for providing us quality content links. This service
hosts relevant links pertaining to categories such as Text editors, File
sharing services, PC downloads and so on.

Though a plethora of search tools are vying for your attention, it is difficult
to remember all of them. To get around this issue, search tool aggregation
sites that display links to various search services have come up.

Many tech oldies are still happy working with command-line interface (similar
to the old DOS or UNIX-shell). Now, do you want to use Google via a command-line
interface? If so, have a look at the innovative service, Goosh
(http://goosh.org/). Once you are on this site, it presents you a command
prompt from where
you can start entering different commands for searching with Google. For
example, to invoke a Google web search for the keyword economics use the command
'web economics'. In response to your query you will get an advertisement-free
Google output. To get a list of available commands just enter the command
'help'.
 Firefox3

Firefox3 (
http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/
), the much-hyped version of Firefox, has been launched. One advantage of this
faster version of Firefox is that you can easily retrieve the sites you visited
in the past. As soon as you start typing a letter on the address bar, Firefox
displays links to pages with this letter (in the

Search services go mobile

The mobile is the next frontier for Internet based search tools

The Biblical exhortation: "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall
find," assumes a special piquancy when one seeks information using one of
the many Internet search engines. Successful search is a minor art in itself:
seeking does not always end with successful finding. The sharpness of one's
search terms often dictates the relevance of what the search tool returns.

One can tolerate some wasted effort, and reconcile to trawling among the
results to find what one really wants, in a desktop-based search. There is disk
space and memory to spare.

But when Web-based search is transplanted to the smaller arena of a mobile
phone or a hand held 'connected' device, users are less tolerant: they are
usually
charged prime rates for the access to the Internet - by the second, or by the
kilobyte of download - and do not want to pay good money for rubbish. They
know what they want and expect to receive it swiftly, economically.

Second-guessing the mobile information seeker's intentions and coming up with
the fastest, most accurate algorithm to do this has therefore become a challenge
for the search engine industry.

Different medium

It is also big business. As many of the Net's search leaders have found out,
creating a mobile version of search tools originally designed for the desktop
is not just a matter of saying: "Honey, I've shrunk the search engine!" It is
an entirely different medium.

One of the first and more agile among Internet search leaders making this
difficult transition has been Yahoo and in early 2007, it unveiled one Search,
a mobile sibling of its desktop offering that tried to understand the
difference between what a mobile and a tethered searcher sought, even when they
entered
the same search term.

"Mobile users don't want to do research. They are looking for one piece of
information," Ojas Rege, Yahoo's Sunnyvale, California (U.S.)-based Vice
President
for Global Mobile Products, told me.
Knowledge bank

Yahoo, which is estimated by independent agencies to account for about one
third of all searches done on the Internet, realised, that no matter how wide
the net it threw, to trawl the information available and how diligent the
'crawlers' it sent to dig them out, there was simply no way it could accumulate
the sum of all knowledge that searchers would seek. So it did a clever thing:
it made its users, part of its knowledge bank. The solution lay in another
of the company's offerings: Yahoo Answers.
Own resources

Customers of its email service (the largest such service in India) as well as
other registered users could post a question on any topic and Yahoo featured
multiple answers provided by other users. These were often so local in content
("Is there a crèche close to my house in Adyar, Chennai") that no global
search engine could hope to provide the answer from its owned cached resources.
Yet somewhere out there on the worldwide web, there were good samaritans
ready to take the time to provide an answer based on their own local knowledge.

By seamlessly integrating its Yahoo Answers offering with its made-for-mobile
search tool as well as throwing in other tools like the web encyclopedia,
Wikipedia and its own picture resource, Flickr, the company had a robust search
tool for the emerging mobile market by mid 2007.

By last week it had tied up with 20 cellular providers around the world,
including four in India - Aircel. BPL, BSNL and Idea. Customers of other mobile
providers could also use the tool - they could type m.yahoo.com/start on their
phones (or get the mobile search tool pushed to them from the web page
http://mobile.yahoo.com/).
Airtel users in India have had access to Google search from the Airtel Live
mobile Internet portal.

The presence of a player like Yahoo at the Macau event was proof enough that
the mobile opportunity was something no Net entity could afford to ignore.

One of the interesting dimensions of mobile search was a hand phone supplied to
its customers by Japan's largest Internet company, Softbank: It came with
a dedicated button that provided one-click access to Yahoo one Search.

Almost simultaneously in the U.S., AT&T offered a Samsung handset with quick
access to Napster Mobile, a search service that trawled a catalogue of over
5 million songs on sale.

Much of what mobile users want is tied to very local needs - and this is good
news for a number of enterprising albeit smaller players with local domain
knowledge. Telibrahma has created a search engine, Genie, for mobile phone
users in Bangalore who may want to search for eating places, cinema halls,
petrol
bunks, ATMs, hospitals and the like. It is a small 147 KB download from its
website (
http://www.telibrahma.com/demo/genie.jar ).

[AI] Search startup ready to challenge Google

Search startup ready to challenge Google

AP

Barney Pell - President and CEO of Powerset, a new
search engine that uses ‘natural-language’ technology
to make Web search easier - hopes to demonstrate
that Google isn’t as smart as most people think

There’s no business like search business. And this is
precisely why a US-based start-up called Powerset is
pursuing a particularly challenging goal: It’s
aiming to outshine Internet’s search giants, Google,
with its own new search software.

After nearly two years of hushed development, the San
Francisco-based company is finally providing a peek at
a “natural-language” technology that is supposed
to make it easier to communicate with search engines.

The algorithms in Powerset are programmed to
understand search requests submitted in plain English,
a change from the “keyword” system used by Google,
Yahoo, Microsoft and the owners of the other leading
engines.

The distinction means Web surfers will theoretically
be able to get more meaningful results by typing more
precise search requests in the form of straightforward
questions like “What did Steve Jobs say about Apple?”
instead of entering an ungrammatical mishmash like
“Apple Steve Jobs said.”

Barney Pell, Powerset’s co-founder and chief
executive, likens the hit-and-miss-process of
searching with keywords to talking to a 2-year-old.

“In one sense, you are happy you can talk to it at
all, but you still really want it to grow up so you
can hold a real conversation,” he said.

This isn’t the first time a search engine has tried to
understand simple English, but Powerset has drawn more
attention because its natural-language technology
is being licensed from the Palo Alto Research Centre.

Better known as PARC, the Xerox Corp subsidiary is
renowned for hatching breakthroughs – such as the
computer mouse and the graphical interface for
personal
computers – that were later commercialised by other
companies.

“We have the best natural-language search technology
that has ever been developed,” Pell, an artificial
intelligence expert, said.

Backed by $12.5 million in venture capital, Powerset
is gradually opening its testing ground, dubbed
Powerlabs, to 16,000 people who signed up to get an
early glimpse at the search engine.

The start-up is so confident that its methods are
superior to Google that Powerlabs will present some
answers alongside what its rival returns when asked
the same questions. Powerset is requiring its users to
vote on which engine produced better results before
they are allowed to enter another search request.

Search Antecedents

Other search engines have previously promised to
understand conversational English with little success.

Ask Jeeves was founded in the 1990s on the premise
that Internet search requests should be presented as
simple questions. It frustrated users with too
many irrelevant answers.

After nearly failing in the dot-com bust, the company
embraced the keyword approach to search and abandoned
its mascot – a cartoon butler named Jeeves
– to distance itself from the days it relied on
natural-language algorithms. It is now known simply as
Ask.com.

Industry analyst Charlene Li of Forrester Research is
sceptical about Powerset’s prospects, too. She doubts
Powerset will be able to comprehend all the
different ways that people seeking the same type of
information can phrase their questions.

For instance, the questions “What caused the collapse
of Enron?” and “What caused the downfall of Enron?”
typically produce different search results even
though they are essentially asking the same thing, Li
said. That’s because computers have trouble
recognising synonyms and other subtle nuances in
language.

“Understanding the meaning of many words is difficult
without people involved,” she said.

[AI] Search Mash

Search Mash

Keith Shaw, Network World

Google is passé. Yes, you heard me right. The day of
the Google search engine is nearly over. Says who, you
may ask? Well, it wasn't me, but it was actually
Google themselves. Yes, that's right. Unknown to most
of us, Google for some time now has been trying out a
new format for their next generation search engine.
No, it's no longer Google. For whatever reasons, they
have named it SearchMash. In fact, unless you go to
their Terms of Service page, you won't be able to
figure out that it has anything to do with Google at
all. Okay, so what's so different about this new
search engine? Well, let's find out!

The basic idea is the same. There is a text box in
which you type in your query and press Enter. Notice
there's no "I am feeling lucky" button anymore. Once
the results come up, to start with, you won't see all
those adsense ads that cram up toward the right when
you search for something on Google. This page is
totally ad free. Secondly, this is quite an
improvement over the Google search engine. A search in
SearchMash won't bring up tons of irrelevant results
like it happens in Google, especially for searches
with longer queries. The good thing for tenured Google
users is that the syntax and the way of Googling works
the same on SearchMash. You can use wildcards, quotes
plus signs and the other operators that you presently
use to customize your Google searches. In the image
below, you can see how it all works.

As you can see, it goes along with the tried and
trusted Google search results format. Click on the
link that says "Hide Details" and it will hide all the
text in an instant, showing you only the links and the
Web sites from where the links are originating. This
is really cool, especially if you know the exact Web
site you are looking for. Since the link and the Web
site addresses are color coded, it's even easier to go
through the page in a jiffy.

Now, one feature I really love about SearchMash is the
little panel to the right. Remember those tabs up on
top of the Google search box? Yes, the ones that let
you search the images and new Google groups, etc.
Well, the same functionality is presented here too,
however, it's in a different, much more friendlier
format.

As you can see, along with the regular search results
that were pulled up, there is also a small panel where
you can see other related material. For instance, if
you click on the plus sign next to the images, another
small panel will drop down with pictures related to
your search query, which in this case was "Goo Goo
Dolls" (the band). Similarly, if you click on the plus
sign next to the blogs, you will be presented with
links to some blogs whose primary content is about the
Goo Goo Dolls. I clicked on the plus sign next to
videos and it showed me a screenshot from the videos,
which also links to that particular video. To see more
video results about the search query you put in, you
can click on the "See Video Results" link. Another
cool thing about this panel is the Wikipedia link. It
shows you all of the Wikipedia pages related to your
search query. Is that cool or what?! You don't need to
click on another tab or wait for a new page to load.
Simply click on the plus sign and you'll see instant
results.

Since this is a new venture from Google and it is in
its test stages, you can also give your feedback on
its performance. At the bottom right, there's another
panel where you can give a positive or a negative
feedback to the efficiency of this system. This is
beneficial to Google, as it will help them develop
SearchMash into an even better finished product.

As much as I love Google, I am truly enjoying this new
search engine and the new, much more friendly format.
I can't wait for Google to unveil the final product.
Until then, go give it a spin. Maybe you'll love it as
much as I do!

As much as I love Google, I am truly enjoying this new
search engine and the new, much more friendly format.
I can't wait for Google to unveil the final product.
Until then, go give it a spin. Maybe you'll love it as
much as I do!

[AI] Search Mash

SearchMash

Google is passé. Yes, you heard me right. The day of the Google search engine
is nearly over. Says who, you may ask? Well, it wasn't me, but it was actually
Google themselves. Yes, that's right. Unknown to most of us, Google for some
time now has been trying out a new format for their next generation search
engine. No, it's no longer Google. For whatever reasons, they have named it
SearchMash. In fact, unless you go to their Terms of Service page, you won't
be able to figure out that it has anything to do with Google at all. Okay, so
what's so different about this new search engine? Well, let's find out!

The basic idea is the same. There is a text box in which you type in your query
and press Enter. Notice there's no "I am feeling lucky" button anymore.
Once the results come up, to start with, you won't see all those adsense ads
that cram up toward the right when you search for something on Google. This
page is totally ad free. Secondly, this is quite an improvement over the Google
search engine. A search in SearchMash won't bring up tons of irrelevant
results like it happens in Google, especially for searches with longer queries.
The good thing for tenured Google users is that the syntax and the way
of Googling works the same on SearchMash. You can use wildcards, quotes plus
signs and the other operators that you presently use to customize your Google
searches. In the image below, you can see how it all works.

As you can see, it goes along with the tried and trusted Google search results
format. Click on the link that says "Hide Details" and it will hide all the
text in an instant, showing you only the links and the Web sites from where the
links are originating. This is really cool, especially if you know the
exact Web site you are looking for. Since the link and the Web site addresses
are color coded, it's even easier to go through the page in a jiffy.

Now, one feature I really love about SearchMash is the little panel to the
right. Remember those tabs up on top of the Google search box? Yes, the ones
that let you search the images and new Google groups, etc. Well, the same
functionality is presented here too, however, it's in a different, much more
friendlier format.

As you can see, along with the regular search results that were pulled up,
there is also a small panel where you can see other related material. For
instance,
if you click on the plus sign next to the images, another small panel will drop
down with pictures related to your search query, which in this case was
"Goo Goo Dolls" (the band). Similarly, if you click on the plus sign next to
the blogs, you will be presented with links to some blogs whose primary content
is about the Goo Goo Dolls. I clicked on the plus sign next to videos and it
showed me a screenshot from the videos, which also links to that particular
video. To see more video results about the search query you put in, you can
click on the "See Video Results" link. Another cool thing about this panel
is the Wikipedia link. It shows you all of the Wikipedia pages related to your
search query. Is that cool or what?! You don't need to click on another
tab or wait for a new page to load. Simply click on the plus sign and you'll
see instant results.

Since this is a new venture from Google and it is in its test stages, you can
also give your feedback on its performance. At the bottom right, there's another
panel where you can give a positive or a negative feedback to the efficiency of
this system. This is beneficial to Google, as it will help them develop
SearchMash into an even better finished product.

As much as I love Google, I am truly enjoying this new search engine and the
new, much more friendly format. I can't wait for Google to unveil the final
product. Until then, go give it a spin. Maybe you'll love it as much as I do!

[AI] Search engines to track tax evaders

2006-11-12 Thread Sweety Bhalla
Search engines to track tax evaders

Finance Minister P Chidambaram today said innovative search engines were being
created to mine information and unearth tax evaders.

Speaking at the inauguration of the first Large Taxpayers Unit, Chidambaram
said limited information was coming in the way to reach tax evaders but it would
change.

A group of professionals was working on several innovative search engines,
which would help in gaining information leading to unearthing of tax evaders,
he added.

Chidambaram said a small number (of tax evaders) believe they are "clever" but
that is no longer true. "We have more information than you (tax evaders)
think we have."

The minister said the government is planning to open LTUs in Chennai, Mumbai,
Delhi and Kolkata. Out of this, he expects one or two to commence operations
before March. There are 830 entities eligible to join LTUs: 202 in Delhi, 282
in Mumbai, 132 in Chennai, 131 in Kolkata and 83 in Bangalore.

He said the cost of tax collection was the lowest in India at 0.67 per cent,
and he expected it to drop to 0.64 per cent this year.

Chidambaram said it was necessary to bring about administrative and attitudinal
changes and incorporate modern management principles into tax administration.
"That's what we are trying to do".
