Re: [AI] as a totally blind person How do you overcome rat fear

2022-05-01 Thread avinash shahi
Hi
I stay on the ground floor and one's had found dead rat while mopping
floor. I caressed it gently and then brought a piece of newspaper and
folded then threw it in the black dust bean.
The rat was hairy and little fatty. It was full of stench as well.
Now let me come to the second part of my response which is about how
to find rid of rats.
1. Plug unnecessary passage and holes in the walls in the house.
 2. Ensure drainage system is cleaned neatly on daily bases in the
kitchen, washroom and in the bathroom.
3. make sure eatable should be kept in secure and locked cubbard and
inside refrigerator.
4. Windows should be grilled for ventilation but windows should not be
wide opened.
These are proven tricks which should work.
Moreover rat is just a small nusence; snakes, chipkilies and other
insects which roam on the walls are more scary. We have to however
manage with all challenges with fearless determination and zeal. We
all will die one day. until we are alive lets keep on living with
undying courage.

Re: [AI] as a totally blind person How do you overcome rat fear

2022-05-01 Thread Shireen Irani
Hi Minar,

Sharing a practical tip that I have seen work a number of times, and
hoping it works for you. But before that, I just want to say, that
fear is irrational, but it is there. As much as anyone, (including
you), tells yourself to get over it, it is difficult to do so,
particularly given that we're blind and our imaginations don't make
things easier at all.
If I were in your place, I would have changed my residence. That is
how scared I am, of any insects; but I know that it is not the most
practical thing to do.
Anyway here's the tip:
Rats do not like strong minty smells. e.g., smells like toothpaste,
vix, etc. But those are still not strong enough to repell rats.
You get something called essential oils in the market. They are mostly
available in beauty shops, so I would recommend that you buy a small
bottle online; they're available on Amazon, Flipcart, etc., and do not
cost more than 3 4 hundred bucks. You can buy the cheapest quality,
because that is the only purpose for which you will be using it. You
can buy either Eucalyptus Essential oil, or pepermint essential oil.
Once you have it, take a small peace of cotton/ any old cloth, and put
3 4 drops of this oil on it. Please be very careful with essential
oils, they are distilled (not mixed or diluted in any other liquids),
and hence are very very strong. You can get a very bad caughing fit if
you end up putting/ smelling too much of it in one shot. So please put
only 2 3 drops of it. You can try this on a table or any other surface
where you can hear the drops falling. That way you will know roughly
how much time it takes for those few drops to fall.
Once you have done that, place that cloth on the area from which you
think the rat might be coming in. It could be a door or window, but it
could also be the drain, or other holes on the florring from where
they might be sneaking in. It would be best to get the pest control
guy, or anyone else who can help to tell you the places where they
might come from. Accordingly, you can take as many of such cloths that
you need and stuff it in those holes. The rat should most likely run
away from that smell, rather than enter your place. You can change the
cloth every 2 3 days initially, and then increase the gaps once the
rats all learn that this is not the place to go to. And yes, a clean
house does make all the difference.
See if you think you want to give it a try, and again, please be very
careful with the oil. please wash your hands well as soon as you are
done touching it, so it never goes anywhere near your eyes and mouth.
This might sound a bit farfetched, but essential oils are very easily
available online, and there is no harm trying, if it is going to give
you peace of mind, because that is most important. If work and sleep
are affected, then you really should not be ok with these conditions,
because it will affect your health eventually.
Good luck,
Shireen.

Agree with George sir..
I run a hostel for the vi students believe mi or not each minimum 10 rats we
chase or kill or die with the medicine that is place in different parts of the
building.. It is because of the food which is sprayed or not being clean and
more because of the drainage next to the building.
Infact huge rats weighing almost a kilo..
Now I have spent almost 3 lakhs to clean up the entire premises and drainage
with new pipes rats are struggling to enter the building.
Now hardly one or two rats run outside our building as they can't enter the
premises..

Not sure how helpful it is. In my experience if the flat is clean, uncluttered
and not littered with food items etc. rats normally stay away. Also ground
floor flats tend to be more vulnerable to rat visits. These are a few general
tips but no guarantee.

RE: [AI] as a totally blind person How do you overcome rat fear

2022-04-28 Thread Pranav Lal
Hi Minar,

The first thing to do is to acknowledge your fear. You appear to have done that
therefore you can now move forward and reach a stage where you can work
rationally.

Other list members have given you a description. I have had a rat run over my
foot. I felt a blunt set of things running over my foot and it was gone.

As for touching a rat, much depends on where you touch it. It is unlikely you
will grab the rat's mouth. Irrespective of where you touch it, the idea is to
get yourself oriented really quickly. Keep its mouth away from your body hence
grabbing the tail may be a workable option.

Seriously though, get pest control and sort out the problem.

Keeping windows shut all the time is not practical. I have had rats come in
through a window air conditioner. I am not sure if it was hiding in the machine
to begin with or it came in from the outside portion and then dropped into my
dustbin and then from there, jumped into my room. Your ears give you quite a
lot of information about its movements.

I am going down memory lane. I have had a rat bite me once. Remember, you are
way bigger and significantly more powerful as compared to the rat. I felt the
impact of teeth on my fingers and immediately drew my hand back. The bite did
not break the skin therefore nothing happened. I am typing with the same
fingers until today.

One last thing, look for a rat soft toy, this is one way for you to feel the
shape of this creature and other animals as well in a safe way.

everyone Please write some technique to ease rat fear. I keep thinking about
rat all the time. I will shift on 2nd floor and keep the windows close always.
Has anyone touch rat please discribe how it feels?

I think a rat has bigger ears too compared to its smallish mouth. If you
are going to hold a rat in your palm beware of its long nails, it would run
and scratch.

Best to hold it using its long tail.

Not sure how helpful it is. In my experience if the flat is clean, uncluttered
and not littered with food items etc. rats normally stay away. Also ground
floor flats tend to be more vulnerable to rat visits. These are a few general
tips but no guarantee.

them so it is better to avoid cat raring. Pest control option is good.

RE: [AI] as a totally blind person How do you overcome rat fear

2022-04-27 Thread Pranav Lal
Hi Minar,

I do not have a good answer. Rats do come out during the day and are a royal
pain at night. I have been bitten too. As for the fear, wear shoes for one
thing for as long as you can. Remember you are bigger and stronger, your fear
probably stems from the fact that since you cannot see, you do not know where
the rat is and when it will attack you. I have heard of sonic rat Repeller's
but do not know how well they work.

The sticky pads may work but a better option may be getting a professional pest
control service. This may be significantly more expensive but is worth it
because they may also help identify how the rat got in in the first place.

Avoid cats unless you are comfortable with animals.
Pranav

Re: [AI] as a totally blind person How do you overcome rat fear

2022-04-26 Thread Khandu Bhandare
Hello miner ji!
This is khandu here
I have being living alone from last ten years at different different
places. I have gone through lot of experiences it would be better for
you to use sticky pad to catch the rats as a person with visual
impairment you have benefit of this pad is when ever rat will stick
on pad it will make noice and u will come to know that u have
successfully catch it.
Then you can ask any sighted person to pik that pad and throw off or
your self also can throw if it is possible to you. Some of our friends
have suggested for the cake but I will not recommend because after
eating cake they search for water and when ever it will die it will
be very stinky wich will be un bearable you can’t even locket where
that rat is.

Re: [AI] as a totally blind person How do you overcome rat fear

2022-04-26 Thread Sandeep Singh
Rat kill is a simple solution. It comes in form of a soap cake, one
just has to break it in pieces and place at some locations in the
house. The shopkeeper will also guide you how to use it effectively.

I know this well.
I was bitten by a mouse when I was in Delhi a few years back and had
to get an injection too!
if you are living alone, I would recommend raring a cat.
it will manage everything and be a good bed-time partner!
