Re: [AI] Six per cent job reservation for disabled in Chhattisgarh

2014-10-14 Thread SC Vashishth
The Disability Act 1995 mandates "Minimum 3%" and not maximum. Hence,
despite the disability being the state subject, the states can't reduce
this minimum 3%, though they can enhance it as they desire. MP has done
it, however, we all know how shoddy this is implemented in the state!

Chief Minister Raman Singh has announced that disabled persons will be
given six per cent reservation in government jobs as per rules.

The State Government will issue notification in this regard by the end
of this month, he informed. The announcement has come after a
delegation of speech and hearing impaired children called on the Chief
Minister on Sunday evening at his residence here.

Out of the six per cent reservation for disabled persons, two per cent
reservation is for visually impaired, two per cent for
bone-interrupted and another two per cent for speech and hearing
impaired.

The Chief Minister said that interpreters will be appointed in the
major hospitals of the State to convey the instructions in sign
language to speech and hearing impaired persons.

Singh said that the government is committed to development of all
disabled people. 'Special schemes would be chalked out for betterment
of disabled persons.

Why not. If I'm not wrong TN had reservations for OBC way back prior
to Mandal's Recommendations. And afterall, Disability falls under
state subject.
