Hi all,

Even I have decided to apply to Nagpur University to allow me to solve my
exams on the computer.

I will do the same after this sem.
I don't know how long it will take considering their lethargic nature.
Let's see how things transpire.

Cheers,
Rahul

2012-11-28 Thread avinash shahi
Since you people are talking about writing exams on computer, I also
thought to share my experience.
but before I go ahead, let me make it clear at the outset, that we
have very imformal exams in JNU.
No centralised exams at all.
All centres are autonomous in conducting mid-semester/end-semester
tests. No roll numbers hick-ups.
And when I write my exam in Centre for the Study of Law and
Governance, My teacher himself-herself reads out question papers for
me.
I wrote mail to my faculties and requested them to allow me to appear
with Laptop, so that I can experience sence of self-satisfaction and
independence.
Further, More E-text reading with spell attention and writing practice
can increase typing speed.
believe me!chatting is also very productive to increase one's speed
and aquire accuracy. provided what and how you chatt...
finally, since Many Universities like DU and JNU are about to provide
Laptops to all enrolled blind students, so better we start working on
this aspect, so scribe pain will be cured for ever.

Let me know if you need any assistance from my end.

on how and who in their official authority show their positive

situations due to lack of willingness to understand at the centres as
well as within university despite having this permission letter of

Re: [AI] Exams by UPSC for low vision candidates

2011-07-04 Thread Shona Man
Hi in this regard I want to say that only those persons are eligible
for extra time who's speed is affected due to lowvision and thereby
use scribe, judicial services are under the domain of state public
service commission hense he will have to look back upon the rules laid
down by state PSC. If he beliefs that his writing is affected by
lowvision than he can use scribe and may get extra time.
Having 40% disability on papers may be to defeat the provisions of law
or to get benifit under reservation catagory, therefore we should be
cautious because it hampers the right of genuin visually handicapped.
UPSC's rules are diffrent in this regard and UPSC provides extra time
for all visually challenged irrespective of using scribe or no.
But he should confirm from his state commission for more detail.
But so far as minimum qualifying marks are concerned, since he is
having 40% or more he should get benifit of under this catagory hense
he should have been declared successful by achieving such percentage
of marks.
Cheers!

 Hi all,

 Greetings from Eyeway Helpdesk!

We have two questions related to UPSC exams for one of our helpdesk clients
from Haryana for the judicial exam they conduct.

This person is a low vision having been certified 40% visually impaired. He
writes his exam on his own. He has cleared his prelims twice, but has fallen
short in the merit list of main exams because his writing and reading speed
is affected by his poor vision. He could only score 46.5% whereas minimum
percentage for SC andST is 45% and 50% for general candidate. This implies
that he is included in the general category and is not given appropriate
provisions like extra time and relaxation in percentage which should be
given to a low vision. Our caller believes that this is the discrimination
by UPSC against a low vision/blind.
These two questions are in light of above explanation:
 1. Does UPSC give extra time in all its exams to people having low vision
who wants to write exam on their own?
 2. Does UPSC also give relaxation in percentage to low vision/blind like it
gives to SCs and STs while preparing the merit list?

Quick responses will be of utmost help because he is having his exam on 20th
 July, 2011

Certainly, I am not in a position to argue that oral format is
superior to written or the other way. In my humble opinion, as
long as normal persons are taking a particular exam in written format,
we have to take that exam in written format as well. So that our
answer sheets will undergo a fair and rigorous scrutiny. Our goal is
to secure accomodation to get that task accomplished with out any
difference. If we decide to provide our exams in oral format, it will
undergo different method of evaluation and it will have its own
repercussions in the overall outcomes, right?

Re: [AI] exams

2010-09-13 Thread akhilesh
Dear MR. Sawhney,
as far as I know, this is the rule of UGC. so it depends on u and not
on the examining authority.
this is not the concession that they're providing it is their duty and
responsibility to provide the question paper in typed format readable
with Jaws.
thanks
Akhilesh.

Your examinating authority was kind enough to extend these concessions

Dear Members,
So many of you have kept the thaught to use the braille in the examination.
But my concern is if one braille dot will be here and there or missing the
dot makes lot of complication.

Knowingly unknowingly it will happen.
So many of us knows braille very well but still, some time less pressure it
happened.

sir,
we be proud to use brl. as this the only unique script in the world.
acg. to their accent it can be read by any vc. no such script is available
for sighted except devanagari.
for exams. braillers may be used. computers may be used.
Webel of kolkatta is supplying useful operators. many softwares are
coming up for vc. the brl. recognising softwares r also available for
correction. and even our brl knowing sighted or sightless will evaluate

the brl. answer papers. and even pictorial brl. question papers can also
supplied. subject to the commitment of the teachers either sighted or vc.
I strongly feel sightless must learn Braille like his mothertongue,
then only we respect the great inventor of the script for vc.

Question paper can be set in braille but i don't think that it is possibal to
write whole exam in braille. A student appearing in the tenth standard exam
will have to write 80 90 pages which is a thing next to impossible. Braille has
some limitations and speed and space are some of them.

Not only that, there are some students who are not very conversant
with braille, since they've learnt computers from the very beginning.
We should keep all the possibilities in mind.

Re: [AI] exams

2010-09-07 Thread Kulkarni, Apoorv
Hi friends,
I think that we should really empower the candidate (VI). It should be an
option of the VI to choose to get a writer from the same stream or course. If
he/she is not able to get a writer or for any other reason, he wants to get a
writer from other course he is free to do so. Thus, when a VI is giving a bank
exam, he may get a writer from commerce faculty or he may get a subordinate to
write the exam or he may get a writer from science background but it must be a
matter of choice. Lets try and give the VI maximum flexibility and ease the
process of getting a writer. Also, where the authorities are providing a
writer, it is necessary that the VI has a right to ask for a writer from his
own course.

Best Regards,
Apoorv Kulkarni
