Re: [AI] new changes in EVMS
it should be straight forward to make the printer give audio output of what it is printing, which could be heard through earphones. Now since Election Commission is not up to date with Access India mailing list, i suppose we will have to take it up with them if we want to do anything on this issue. Re: [AI] new changes in EVMS
Friends In my personal opinion, bringing more electronics to EVM may not find favour with EC. In this modified form, we must understand, that access technology is not going to read symbols and we need to impress that an additional numver which would be a look up numver identifying the party symbol need to e printed. By doing OCR on the print out we can be sure if the vote has been cast properly. Agreed, lot of technology intervention, however, there does not seem to be a simpler solution. Now because of abjections raised by some of the political parties and other organizations on functioning of EVMs ECI is planning to introduce a new feature known as VVPAT (voter verified paper audit trial) according to which after a person casts his / her vote a print out will be issued on a piece of paper which indicates the name and symbol of the candidate to whom the vote has been casted. here we visually challenged persons have no way of knowing the accuracy of our vote since we cannot read the paper so this is the right time that we step in and ensure that necessary changes like making EVMs voice enabled like ATMs or any other such changes are made before new feature is implemented. There fore I request learned members of this list to throw some light on this matter thanks and regards, -- l.pavan(help ever hurt never) Register at the dedicated AccessIndia list for discussing accessibility of mobile phones / Tabs on: http://mail.accessindia.org.in/mailman/listinfo/mobile.accessindia_accessindia.org.in Search for old postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/accessindia@accessindia.org.in/ To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe. Re: [AI] new changes in EVMS
dear Harish EC will notpermit us to take the eprint paper outside the poling station so doing OCR may not be posible unless we make use of our mobile phone againmost of us have have basic phones so i don't think this option would be viable please explain it clearly if understood it in a wrong manner. regards, -- l.pavan(help ever hurt never) Register at the dedicated AccessIndia list for discussing accessibility of mobile phones / Tabs on: http://mail.accessindia.org.in/mailman/listinfo/mobile.accessindia_accessindia.org.in Search for old postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/accessindia@accessindia.org.in/ To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe. Dear Pavan I suppose, I got it wrong, I was under the impression, this printout was for us to keep and carry with us.
