Re: [AI] talking atm

2015-08-28 Thread Prashant Naik
Dear Aravind,

Please search by PIN codes of other nearby areas of your home at
http://talkingatmindia.org/

Your location Mahalaxmi layout area pin code is 560086. Search shows one
talking ATM of SBI which you reported not usable in talking mode.

In Bangalore there are 85 talking ATMs of 5-6 banks so hope you can locate
nearest one may be nearby you house or college or work place which is
usable in talking ATM mode. Citibank also has talking ATMs which are at
malls and IT parks.

Try free Talking ATM android app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pice.talkingatmlocatorindia&hl=en

Hi Timy,
In the mobile app there is a filter option. It is your favorite setting
for a particular state name and a particular bank. Once this is set next
time you launch app it shows list according to last set filter setting.
One can also set both as All or change as per his/her choice. Kindly
explore. For any further query and feedback please write to
saga...@gmail.com or talkingatmin...@gmail.com

Thank you.

  Dear Friends,

www.talkingatmindia.org website is updated now with more Talking ATMs
addresses from four banks. We added Corporation Bank’s Talking ATM as we
got formal communication from the Bank. Union Bank has updated its Talking
ATMs list on its corporate website as on 30th April 2014. So we updated
  our database accordingly.

Now total 4353 Talking ATM addresses we can locate. Also find few
improvements changes as suggested by our friends. We get regular feedback
and excellent suggestions from our mailing list members. We will implement
them in a phase wise manner and more banks are coming.

Sharing a recent feedback on Talking ATM – “Its really wonderful
experience. It really inculcates feeling of pride and self confidence”.

Please join facebook page https://www.facebook.com/talkingatmindia for

Subject: [AI] Talking ATM Locater in India

Know what a Talking ATM is? You know but a recap: facilitating
independent transaction to the visually impaired - the Talking ATM has
raised buttons, gives voice guidance via headphone and for secrecy and
security reasons lets the blind to turn off the screen. Read a
detailed article here.

Talking ATM is an excellent piece of accessibility, but often people
with visual disabilities remain unaware about it even if it stands
near them. Therefore, the necessity of a tool to check the
availability of Talking ATMs was felt - prompting the trio of Sameer
Thakur, Prashant Naik and Saidarshan Bhagat to launch the first Indian
Talking ATM Locator in the form of TalkingATMIndia.org.

Re: [AI] Talking ATM locater

2014-03-06 Thread Prashant Naik
Good news to share as now Talking ATM India Locator has addresses of Bank
of Baroda's Talking ATMs. At present Talking ATMs search database contains
total 1227 Talking ATMs of two banks - Union Bank of India and Bank of
Baroda. Talking ATMs list is available on Union Bank of India's website and
Bank of Baroda officially shared with us its Talking ATMs list for this
site's database.

This website works smoothly on desktop, tablet and mobile phones. Our team
has tested it thoroughly with Talks, Talkback, Voiceover, JAWS, NVDA, etc. So
if you are facing any issue it may be temporary or may be at the device
level. We welcome your queries, feedback and suggestions. Please write
directly to talkingatmin...@gmail.com

The website www.talkingatmindia.org is mainly a quick and easy search tool
for various platforms and devices.

Best,

Prashant

This is an excellent project. I just searched for a talking ATM near my home
in Bangalore, and indeed found one that I wasn't aware of.

Although talking ATM's are available in the UK, I seldom use them as I am
not aware of their existance in the area I am in.

Friends

As you are aware, we had the privilege of inaugurating the website which
helps locate Talking ATM's. This was a much felt need, as, in one hand new
Talking ATM's are getting installed continuously, and we are just not aware
about it. We have now the tool to solve this problem.

Friends, do utilize this service and most importantly utilize the services
of the Talking ATM's. It is technically possible to find out, how many
persons have utilised the talking ATM's. If the statistics goes against us,
we may end up loosing this all together.

I am aware, there are many, who have as of now not got ATM's, however, those
who have, please make good use of it.

Re: [AI] Talking ATM locater

2014-02-21 Thread Prashant Naik
Dear All,

Thanks for your appreciation. This is a voluntary initiative which can
actually help banks to fulfill one important directive in the RBI circular
"Need for Bank Branches / ATMs to be made accessible to persons with
disabilities" dated 13-04-2009 in which a clear mention as "Banks may also
bring the locations of such Talking ATMs to the notice of their visually
impaired customers".

As you people started using this website your inputs can help in further
improvements. That's the way things get better with greater usage and
constructive feedback. Please write directly to
talkingatmindia@gmail.comto avoid traffic on A I if you have inputs or
if you faced any issues.

Friends, during the database built up of this site, we did lot of search to
find Talking ATMs list by various banks who have already installed such ATM
machines on respective bank's website for official source of addresses made
available by then in the public domain. But we could not find such lists
other than Union Bank website.

We will be very grateful if our group can help us and locate public domain
sources/links. We have clearly mention in our disclaimer section that "The
core idea is to develop a database of ALL Talking ATMs in India installed
by nationalized, private, foreign and cooperative banks". Mr. Banker has
already mentioned that he was unable to locate it on SBI site.

In the meanwhile post launch of this website we have written mail to SBI
and BOB to share their Talking ATMs addresses for this site. In our online
search we found that both banks have officially announced installation of
Talking ATMs for the blind. We are awaiting their positive reply.

Please read website disclaimer and other links so that your few basic
queries will get answered related to this website locator. Still many
people feel partial voice guidance enabled through speaker on ATMs is a
talking ATM for blind. This was the recent case in the last week when one
of our list members called me saying a talking ATM he used gives only 4-5
prompts. A document named difference between partial voice guidance and
talking ATM for the blind is circulated through this list many times.
As creators of this site on behalf of my teammates my sincere thanks to
Harish Kotian for launching this website service during the 4th A I
convention.
Friends his point to use Talking ATMs regularly is a key need.
Thank you.

2014-02-21 Thread Mr. Banker
Hi Harish Sir,
I read somewhere on the internet, SBI has installed around 4000
talking ATMs. When I tried to locate the positions from their locator
given on SBI website, I was unable to locate any talking ATM.
No way to seperatly locate the talking machines, all are mix.

Re: [AI] Talking ATM big boon for visually impaired

2013-12-21 Thread KanchanPamnani
Indeed it is a big boon for us. We of course need to identify the ATM
closest to us and then learn to use it.
Getting ATMs to talk was a struggle and it will become worth while only if
everyone in this group uses it.
I found the nearest talking ATM to my house and I learnt to use it. For
efficiency I will have to use it a few more times. I now plan to use the one
nearest to my office. ATMs apart from being convenient are also good for
emergencies.

We also need to use these ATMs to show the Banking community that we mean
business.
Please use talking ATMs and let the group know if any of the features have
been disabled.
Use your right so we have might.

Talking ATM big boon for visually impaired
Dec 21, 2013, 12.17AM IST TNN[ Pavan M V ]

BANGALORE: Madhu Singhal requested several banks to install a talking
ATM. Now, the efforts of this visually impaired founder and managing
trustee of Mitra Jyothi have paid off. The Union Bank of India's ATM
at the National Institute of Fashion Technology in HSR Layout will be
operational from Saturday.

Madhu said, "This ATM will prevent the visually-challenged from being
taken for a ride by people who assist them in withdrawing money."

This Talking ATM, the first of its kind in Bangalore, has a
Braille-enabled keypad and an audio system to guide the visually
impaired through the various steps of getting cash.

Branch manager Shobha Chander said a security guard will be around
24/7 to help the visually-impaired enter the kiosk. The user should
put on her headphones and plug in the jack to the ATM before inserting
the debit/credit card to go ahead with the transaction, she added.

A series of audio instructions guide the user through various steps to
finish the transaction -- be it withdrawing money or checking the
balance. The user also has the option to render the screen blank to
prevent others from knowing the transaction details.

Shobha said a Braille dot embedded on the numeral 5 holds the key for
the visually impaired to use the machine. "We request them to carry
headphones while using this ATM," she said.

The bank is examining the possibility of installing a permanent
headphone at the ATM but the apprehension that it could be stolen or
become a source of infection has made them wary of going ahead with
it.

This ATM can also be used by all other people.

The Talking ATM is near Mitra Jyothi, where over 60 visually-impaired
individuals undergo a three-month computer and independent living
skills training. This organization has been working for their welfare
for the past 24 years.

Where is it?

Re: [AI] Talking ATM working at NAB Delhi

2013-01-06 Thread Prashant Naik
Dear Friends,

Two key privacy and security measures are agreed by the Indian Banks
Association (IBA) sub-committee on talking ATM. This has helped us in
convincing banks on their security concerns on talking ATM and these two
things are simple but very effective so we should fully support them rather
than expecting changes as voice through external speakers, etc.

1. Use of headphone to enable talking mode. The ATM is a regular ATM which
can be used by both sighted as well as blind persons. So ATM will only
talk when a standard 3.5 mm headphone connector is inserted into the audio
jack. After completion of one transaction ATM will come out of talking
mode and if you wish to go for second transaction then please remove and
re-insert headphone plug.

Important to note here is that mobile handsfree may or may not work on ATM
audio circuit. The technical reason is mobile handsfree connector has four
electrical connections, the tip, a first ring, a second ring, and the
sleeve. (TRRS - Tip, Ring, Ring, and Sleeve). But any standard computer
headphone or earphone with three electrical connections, the tip, the ring,
and the sleeve (TRS - Tip, Ring, and Sleeve) will surely work. ATMs
machines are globally manufactured and so it’s not possible to change audio
circuitry which is suitable for TRS connector to support TRRS connector.

2. An option to hide or blank out ATM display screens is another key point.
In the beginning this choice is given. So no one who may be overlooking
will come to know what exactly you are doing as sighted will see only a
blank bank image screen having no text. In case of fast operation of ATM
that means once you insert headphone and then insert ATM card ATM will by
default go into hidden screens and English language mode. In case of
regular operation in talking mode first you need to go through have 4-5
offline options such as welcome message, language choice, hide or display
screen option, skip or listen to ATM orientation and repeat orientation or
move forward to next step. The next step is insert your card. Once you
insert card and then PIN you go into the online mode of ATM.

I request all my friends who wish to do ATM transaction with talking mode
please always carry a headphone or earphone with you. I am sure our
friends will fully support these two privacy and security measures
available on a talking ATM.

In case any ATM which is producing sound from external speaker then that is
a partial voice guidance not at all a talking ATM for the blind. I already
explained this point in one of my old post giving
difference between public voice guidance and talking ATM for the blind.

Warm regards,

PRASHANT NAIK

Hi Prashant,

Good progress!

I just wanted to know whether use of headphone/earphone is necessary to get
the proper voice with increased volume or the voice doesn't come out through
the external speakers given on the machine.

Re: [AI] Talking ATM

2009-08-19 Thread Adhimoolam Vetrivel Murugan
A couple of suggestions for the testers: talking ATMS are designed
based on two different ways of which the first type is designed to be
used with touch screens, whereas the second types of machines are made
to be compatible with ATM keys. In my view the touch screen has the
potential to compremize privacy since it requires one to enter the pin
by counting the beeps. So make sure to take note of it while testing.
Second, talking ATMS should use their internal speakers for speech
outputs and otherwise he/she has to use a headset whithout which one
is helpless. So testers, make sure to explore those machines by
bearing these points in mind.

Best regards,

Vetri.

Produced in my Nokia N82.

Re: [AI] Talking ATM

2009-08-19 Thread Pamnani
Ayesha I think my mail is quite clear. We are talking of testing ATMs before
they get deployed.
So no Delhi does not have a talking ATM. Only Pune had one which was
operational.

we

have had to work with the authorities to get a circular that 1/3rd of the
ATMs would be talking. Also SBI has committed to have many machines of
the

new lot which will talk.

After this we have been holding discussions with the ATM manufacturers on
what features we want and what we mean by talking ATMs.

this is no small achievement and has taken several hours and I can
realistically say several days, weeks and months.

Now 2 ATMs are standing at St Xaviers College for each and every one of
you

to try, check out, comment and be a part of a historical process before
they are used in the country.

I am told by the St. Xaviers team that they have posted the invitation on
this list but I have been travelling and have had no time to check my old
mails.

Therefore I am going to ask each and every one of you from Mumbai and
around
and those who are going to be in the city in the next few days to go to
St

Xaviers College-XRCVC and do your bit for yourself and for others in the
country who you represent. it is your suggestions that will make the

Kanchan

Please call Prashant, sam or anyone at XRCVC before you go so that you
get a

proper demo. 022 22623298.
