RE: [ActiveDir] ADC Programming

2002-04-29 Thread Thornley, Dave H

Hi Justin,

Are you setting the Exchange attributes on the user object in AD? ADC
won't replicate from AD to Ex5.5 without certain attributes set. The
program I wrote sets the following in AD:
mailNickname
msExchHomeServerName
textEncodedORAddress

ADC then creates the mailbox on the 5.5 server.

I did run into one problem with this method - we had an intermittent
problem where the permissions on the ADC created mailbox were incorrect.
To get around this I also set msExchMailboxSecurityDescriptor giving the
user ADS_RIGHT_EXCH_MODIFY_USER_ATT, ADS_RIGHT_EXCH_MAIL_SEND_AS and
ADS_RIGHT_EXCH_MAIL_RECEIVE_AS rights to the created mailbox (These
translate as 'User' in Exchange).

HTH

Cheers

dave

Hello Everyone,

Question for you all.

I have the ADC installed from the Exchange 2000 CD on my Win2k Server
DC. I have all the right CA's configured. I am trying to automate the
creation of user accounts through a adsi and asp scripts. I can get the
users created, but am having difficulty creating the mailboxes. Does
anyone know the coding for creating mailboxes through AD for Exchange
5.5 using the ADC?

RE: [ActiveDir] 1000 row limit

2002-04-29 Thread Fleenor Todd

I understand now that this can be set using NTDSUTIL.exe.

The PageSize can be set in VB code using an ADO.Command object and ADSI 2.5.

How about setting the page size through a Linked SQL Server? You can create
a linked SQL server to the Active Directory and then provide users with
standard SQL views of the directory. I'm not saying this is the best thing
to do, but its one option for interfacing to the AD.

However, I don't see a way to allow for queries over 1000 using a linked SQL
server.

Anyone know how to do this?

Is there a setting on an AD Domain controller that limits the size of LDAP
queries to 1000?

I have read about using paging, etc. with ADO, but wanted to know if there
was also a setting on the Active Directory Domain Contoller.

Thanks!

[ActiveDir] Trust between forests

2002-04-29 Thread Joe

I posted this question a couple of days ago and received no responses.
Hopefully someone today is familiar with the process. Thx again.

I have two forests that I need to create a trust relationship between. Do I
have to do a zone transfer of their respective zones to gain name resolution
to the other domain or do I need to create a lmhost record for the netbios
name of the domain?? Also, there is a very tight firewall policy between
the two domains... What ports should I open to create the trust and do I
have to keep them open after the trust is created? Thx for the help.

RE: [ActiveDir] OT :: Network MonitoringThe monitoring suite from Silverback
is quite good. It really doesn't require a resource to config or maintain,
it is installed in about a day and monitors availability, performance and
security of networks, systems and applications in real time or historically
with notification capabilities. They're here

the time money to pay someone, this is an excellent choice.

VERY OT Re: [ActiveDir] Program for blocking of websites

2002-04-29 Thread Nah Idee

There is nothing that will do what the parents ultimately want, complete
porn screening. So they have 2 choices. Put in a network and run vnc server
on the lad's PC and watch where he goes on another PC or here's a wild one,
act like parents and exert parental control over internet access, rather
than treat it as a substitute parent or substitute friends. Hell that one's
free. Gee, how much do I have to pay to relinquish my duties as a parent,
because if I can defer the child's needs for now, I can get the state
(prisons, hospitals) to fulfill his needs later, woo hoo. Why did I have
children again ?

RE: VERY OT Re: [ActiveDir] Program for blocking of websites

2002-04-29 Thread T Bowman

I came very close to posting this, but being the 'newbie' I didn't
want to chance it. With my kids, it's I better NOT catch you on
the internet and that is sufficient because I take the time to teach
my kids right from wrong. Kids WANT and need discipline.
Teach 'em now or they learn later - the hard way.

Yea after talking to them they caught their kid looking at porn and they
want to block all porn sites from themI think cybersitter will be
what I'm going to use for them. Thanks to everyone that helped and if
anyone has any other comments I would love to hear them

I would just enable Content Advisor in Internet Explorer. (Tools.
Internet Options click on the Content tab) You have to be a local admin
to do this. You can't block just one site, but it sounds like they want
to block the porn sites and other objectionable sites. -Original

I need to block certain websites from a few of my users computers. Could
someone give me suggestions on how to do this?

 Thanks

To be honest, I use Content Advisor to keep hubby off the Porn sites, not my
kids. They are in college.
