[ActiveDir] Windows 2000 domain

2007-01-04 Thread Karsten Aarhus
 Dear all,

I have a problem I never face before.

In my windows 2000 domain I would like to join a security group to a
group but the system will not let me.
I can see if I choose to join a disbutions group insted there is no
problem at all?

The system is a small business 2000 server

What can be the problem and how to I solved this so I can join the
security group insted?

Regards

If you're talking about group nesting, the mode of the domain limits some of
the potential configurations. Check to see whether or not you're in mixed
mode. If you are, nesting is limited and you can't have universal groups.
If you're in native, what group can't you place into what group? Please
define the scope of each group, e.g. domain local or global or universal.

[ActiveDir] Windows 2000 Domain ADPREP considerations

2004-10-22 Thread Lou Vega

Does anyone have a good short
attention span answer to which hotifxes I might need on a Windows 2000
SP4 Domain Controller prior to running ADPrep?

I remember this KB article from earlier,
but this seems to refer to SP3 and earlier unless Im reading wrong
(could be my mind has decided to take an early weekend!) http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=331161

In my own twisted sense of logic it would
seem that with SP4 I dont need additional hotfixes specific to running ADPrep,
but wanted to run this by the collective wisdom of the group for good measure.

Thanks in advance.

Lou

[ActiveDir] windows 2000 (domain) licensing

2003-08-01 Thread Graham Turner
this could possibly be taken as OT - so apologies if this is the case - if
so not sure of the newsgroup to post to.

am considering issues of licencing in the context of a domain upgrade

it has been raised as a potential issue that client access licences procured
to support connection to NT4 domain are not valid for connection to a
Windows 2000 active directory domain ??

any views ?

Server CALs have versions. These are printed on the paper
documentation that accompanied them when you purchased them (and if they
are Open Licenses, at eopen.microsoft.com). Downlevel is OK. Going up a
level requires either repurchase or Software Assurance.

These comments don't apply if you have a Select, Enterprise, Service
Provider, ASP, etc. license agreement with Microsoft.
