2002-11-05 Thread Rick Kingslan
Hahaha! Boy, are you in for a REAL shock! Justin, you're poised on one
really TALL cliff!

Cool technology, but one does not just drop in the CD, click a few
buttons, connect A to B, then begin the transactions.

Given your tagline, I suspect they are wanting to look at it for the
HIPAA module(s) that MS offers to do transactions in lieu of EDI - which
isn't as ubiquitous (or nearly as secure) as the medical/insurance
industry needs it to be.

At a 50,000 foot level, BizTalk is Microsoft's server for creating
business logic and rules in XML, and allowing it to communicate across
the common communication verbs that is XML, SOAP, etc.

With all due respect, Justin - (there may be one here, I don't know) you
need to find an expert on BizTalk and the medical industry. This one's
a REAL toughy! I'd run away very fast if at all possible.

2002-11-06 Thread Roger Seielstad
Two things.

First, what is called Enterprise Application Integration - functioning as a
middleman between different business systems, such as financials, sales
force automation, and helpdesk/support software.

Second, it facilitates business to business commerce through a couple of
standards that are out there, most notably XML.

Now - its not a plug and play solution - it's a development platform onto
which you can build your business logic and interfaces to other systems. In
addition, there are plenty of other customers out there with more offerings
and more experience in these areas. I happen to work for one of them.

RE: [ActiveDir] Biztalk

2002-11-06 Thread Roger Seielstad
That's a fairly accurate description, although there are some other parts to
it.

EDI is alive and well, and actually still a growth market, in large part
because of the dot crash companies like Ariba and CommerceOne who sold a
sold a bill of goods that couldn't be delivered. There are traditional
strongholds for EDI, such as manufacturing, automotive and petrochemical,
but healthcare is still seriously considering it as it provides a lot of
cross platform opportunities. In addition, it is as secure as you want to
make it. We regularly traffic EDI for companies that require end to end
encryption and authentication via EDI.

I completely concur, however, that no solution is z:\setup.exe
when it comes to HIPAA compliance and the larger picture of
EAI or B2B data management. This is one where rolling your own solution
might be a bit more than you want to bite off.

Trust me. I've got a million transactions a day of it running through our
systems. ;) Its one of many things we do.

RE: [ActiveDir] Biztalk

2002-11-06 Thread Rick Kingslan
Probably not - and I agree. But there are a lot of off-topic issues
that are discussed here, Larry.

If Tony wants to stop it, I'd invite him to do so. I have no problems
with the list owner killing a conversation.

RE: [ActiveDir] Biztalk

2002-11-06 Thread Roger Seielstad
To some degree, yes. Its probably gone a bit off topic, however.

Personally, I've been thinking about looking at Biztalk to manage
Exchange/AD stuff. I'm thinking it would be relatively trivial to write some
AD interfaces for Biztalk such that you can plug it into any of a number of
HR packages to do user adds and changes. But I don't have time to go there,
so I haven't played with it yet.

It can probably do that. As Rick said, it isn't drop in and go, its gonna
take dev work to pull off. But it can do the job.
