Hi Geoff! 1) Try ./dsmcad instead of dsmcad. 2) Like suggested by James Thompson, your DSMI_CONFIG variable is pointing to /usr/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin instead of /usr/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/dsm.opt Kindest regards, Eric van Loon -Original Message- From: Gill, Geoffrey L. Re: Upgradedb command
Hello, I noticed during an AIX install of TSM that the install ran the following command: dsmserv upgradedb runfile /usr/tivoli/tsm/server/bin/haltsrvr.cmd I have no idea what this means :-) but you could maybe play with that? Don't hold me responsible ...etc. Paul. Hi, When doing an dsmserv upgradedb command, the server continues to run after completion. Is it possible to add a flag that will shut down the server once it has finished upgrading the database? Re: Offsite copypools and rellocaction
I think there will be general agreement that copypools are not normally colocatted since your restores come from your primary storage pool, and quicker restores are the primary advantage of colocation. [EMAIL PROTECTED] 11/20/00 11:24PM We are in the process of creating offsite copypools for DR purposes. We are constrained with the number of tape drives and the available window for running reclamation. I have read the item "Re: Offsite DR Cartridges" which implies that cartridge usage could increase dramatically with collocation turned on for these pools. We have 72 nodes registered to ADSM and the copypools total approximately 2TB. What is the recommended approach for offsite copypools? Re: ANS1036S
Also did you try starting the dsmcad with a ./dsmcad. Sometimes AIX will make you put the dot and slash in front of the command to run it. It's not AIX, but rather the way Unix "path" specifications should be: For security reasons, root (and most other system accounts) should NOT have a "." entry in the Path, to prevent someone from planting a command of the same name as one that is an established name, but in an oddball directory, like /tmp. Imagine what would happen if root had cd'ed into /tmp and had "." in its Path, and happened to invoke some imposter command instead of the real command. That's a classic hacker ploy. Get in the habit of doing ./CMDNAME form invocation to explicitly invoke something in the current directory. And make sure none of your non-ordinary accounts have a "." in their path. Hi Henke! I have seen this error before, but I don't know what it means. It's some kind of database inconsistency. You can do a SHOW VOLUMEUSAGE nodename to see the volumes used by this node. Restore an archive with the description?
Sorry if this is a "doh!" question Is it possible to restore an entire named archive in a single command, i.e. selecting on the contents of the "Description" field. This is easy in the GUI client, but I'd like to be able to do this without needing an X display. What I'm looking for is something like dsmc retrieve -subdir=yes -des="Archive 1104" "/*" (this doesn't work) I can restore the archive if I know the filesystems it contains and select each individually, but I'd really like to be able to do it in a single command, without necessarily knowing exactly what it contains. Re: ADSM and DB2
I'm checking out two redbooks I found mentioned in the archives and have some rookie (DB2) confusion. "Using ADSM to Back up Databases" refers to DB2/2 and DB2/6000. One is obviously for the RS6000 platform, the other makes reference to Intel platforms but refers to OS/2 commands. (I did find a matrix that references NT and OS/2 for DB2/2 v2). Should I be looking elsewhere for UDB on NT? Or should I be asking if Universal DB2 and DB2/2 are different beasts? The redbook "Managing VLDB using DB2 UDB EEE" seems specific to AIX. when can make offsite copy?

Matt - There isn't a conceptual problem with "starting early" in that the Backup Stgpool operation is incremental, and so doing it again later will get what hasn't already been copied to the Copypool. A consideration in general would be that related data might be spread more widely in the Copypool and thus cause any recovery of specific filespaces using that data to take a bit longer. But that's not much of a real issue in that recovery would use multiple days' worth of Copypool imagery anyway, which is quite spread out as it is. In that you're talking about backing up a disk storage pool, you should be able to do that in parallel with incoming data, without much contention. The overriding issue is that your DB backup be done at such a time as to make your system fully recoverable. Richard Sims, BU
Re: How to turn off Application Log msgs on NT TSM Server?
I believe this can be done by using the dsmcutil command. -Original Message- From: Paul Fielding [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, November 21, 2000 12:45 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: How to turn off Application Log msgs on NT TSM Server? Copy Storage-pool Definitions for Cloning a Server
Hi *SM'ers, i cloned my production server into a new one and took EXPORT/IMPORT function for this task. It works wonderful. But I missed the device-classes. It's ok that they aren't there. I can take them from my backuped devconfig file and bring it as macro in my new server. The Storage-Pool Definitions are also missing. How can I bring them from one server to the other? Has anyone an idea? Sample Scripts not installed with TSM 4.1
Hi *SM'ers I have installed on a new NT-Server TSM 4.1. After successful installation, I looked for the sample scripts in the file scripts.smp, but the file wasn't anywhere. Did they forget to copy it on the CD? Has anyone expirience with this? Re: nable to restore file
What version of *SM client and server? I also have DAVE clients, problems were resolved with more recent versions of *SM. I also have USEUNICODEF yes in the options file. I think the version of DAVE is also important, you may have to call support. === John Monahan Network Administrator Liberty Diversified Industries (763) 536-6677 === Toni Banire Toni_T_Banire@STo: [EMAIL PROTECTED] BPHRD.COM cc: Sent by: "ADSM: Subject: nable to restore file Dist Stor Manager" [EMAIL PROTECTED] T.EDU 11/21/00 10:45 AM Please respond to "ADSM: Dist Stor Manager" I have some files on a NT system. An AppleMac server hosts the files for users via software on the Apple machine called DAVE. Not to familiar with DAVE, Here's what happens when I do a restore Lets say I have a dir (A) with 4 subdirs (a1...4) and the file resides in a4. If I try to restore the file into a folder called a4i, I get the error msg ANS1256E. I think it's to do with permissions. I have NTFS change permission on the main dir where this file resides. The file itself has no other permissions However, when I restore the file into A1i it's fine. Not sure what's going on here TIA Toni
