Re: More than one storage pool backing up to a single copypool.
Jon, The reason I don't recommend this is that your offsites are your disaster recovery media which will then have even more clients competing for tapes in a disaster recovery mode. Steffan - Original Message - From: Martin, Jon R. [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, February 19, 2002 6:55 AM Subject: More than one storage pool backing up to a single copypool. All, Is it possible to have two storage pool's backup to the same copy storage pool? I don't see anything in the manuals saying yes or no. We currently have a 'TAPEPOOL' which is backed up to a 'COPYPOOL' . Then the 'COPYPOOL' tapes are sent offsite. The original intention of our TSM installation was for backup of 'server' data only. The 'TAPEPOOL' uses collocation. Recently a growing number of executives have asked to have their desktops installed as TSM clients. My problem is that right now each of these desktops will hog an entire volume because of the collocation. What I would like to do is create a 'TAPEPOOL_PC' which has collocation turned off and does a backup to the existing 'COPYPOOL'. Thank You, Jon Martin
Re: L700 Library
Kelli, the devices.scsi message is quite old and is not typically a problem (as there is no such device to install). You should review your device specific and AIX generic upper level drivers to ensure that they are all at the latest levels. However, the problem may be so simple as someone forgot to include the library scsi cable in one of the SCSI busses. A tape drive and the library could even have a SCSI id conflict that would also cause one (or both) of the devices to stop functioning. Steffan - Original Message - From: Kelli Jones [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, February 25, 2002 9:17 AM Subject: L700 Library We are trying, as earlier email indicated, to run an STK L700 library with TSM 4.1.50 running on AIX 4.3.3. The library originally shipped with Seagate Viper 200 drives. We had the library configured via smitty/TSM Devices and it was listed as available but the Seagate drives were not because in preparation for IBM drives, we had installed Atape. However, we had requested IBM Ultrium drives so the drives were replaced with the IBM's and now, the drives are available to the system, but the library is not. The error message received after running cfgmgr inidcates that the package 'devices.scsi' is not installed. Anybody ever see this? Any help would be appreciated... Thanks so much! Adsmtape and TSM 4.1
I've noted the existance of the adsmtape program and I really need a version that will work for TSM 41 on AIX Here's a mail I posted on sourceforge in the adsmtape discussion: Hi, I've inherited a problem where some monthly archive data was tagged for 5 week retention rather than 7 years Fortunately, this only affects 20% of the montly archive Each archive resides on one DLT4 tape so my offsite tapes still contain the data even though the TSM database has expired the entries for it I know the tapes, I know the files, there are no spanned files and the important files are too big to be aggregated Tivoli wants $US85k+ to give me a salvage solution Is there any chance of a version of adsmtape that will allow me to get my data back? If anyone out there can give some advice it would be very much appreciated Regards, David Smith AIX Administrator Corporate Express Australia 67-77 Epsom Rd Sydney NSW PH 02 93350318 or 0412 258 208

Re: ADSM/TSM and INFORMIX online Backups
Hi George We are currently using the X/OPEN api to backup the Informix database. We are also using the onbar utility in conjunction with the X/OPEN api. My question is how to set up management classes for the backups and also the logs and how to expire these backups and logs. Thks Sean -Original Message- From: George Lesho [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, March 01, 2002 9:30 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: ADSM/TSM and INFORMIX online Backups Need more info Sean. In order for Onbar to play with TSM, a shared library is needed. Tivoli previously gave you one in ADSM Ver 3.1 but dropped the shared library for later distributions when it found it could sell a stand alone product (thus put some more coins in their pocket) called TDM for Informix which is basically a shared XBSA library. Informix does have one available that they got gratis from Legatto some time ago but it doesn't work well. The only other 3rd party product that provides a shared library is BMC SQL BackTrack for Informix which also allows you to pull database tables from the TSM backup tapes and stick them in a warm database (nice feature). My location uses SQL BackTrack for Informix. How do you plan on putting a shared library into use? The BMC product has you create backup pools which basically are the conduit to TSM by allowing you to bind a management class to a backup (the backup pools have nothing to do with actual tapes. I don't run onbar commands to do backups but use BMC commands which in turn call the onbar commands. I do all backups as TSM archive type because expiration doesn't work well with backup type backups. There isn't a true incremental capability withing TSM against these data bases anyway. There is an incremental capability within onbar (L0, L1, L2) but TSM doesn't care about this aspect of Onbar. Read the Onbar Backup and Restore Guide for your version of Informix and decide how you are going to come up with an XBSA shared library. Don't hesitate to shoot further questions.
