Journal backup to multiple servers

2005-12-27 Thread Lukas Valle
Hi all

I'm using Client 5.3.2 on W2K3.

Is there a way to use journal based backup if I like to backup one file
system to two TSM-Servers? I'm able to set up multiple Journal Services, but
as much as I know over TSM Journaled Based Backup it's not recommended to
have multiple journal services running for the same file system.

thanks in advance

Lukas

TSM Reporting tools

2005-12-27 Thread Tyree, David
I'm looking for some tools that will allow me to track the
data coming in from each node and then allow me to see trends.

Throwing the info into a spreadsheet and then accessing it
through a web interface would be good.

I also would like to generate other reports on how things
are going, check on the general health of my TSM environment and do some
assorted tweaking if needed.

I played around with TSMManager several months ago and it
had some interesting features but I wasn't able to follow through with
it.

I'm currently running TSM 5.2 on a Windows box, but I'll be
going to 5.3 and ISC in the next few weeks. I don't really care for ISC
but I'll get used to it.

I use ServerGraph. Good tool, price is right. It can generate both
online screen reports and batch reports. There are many other features,
I believe you can get a free trial at their website -

2005-12-27 Thread goc

hi all,
after installing tapeutil and atdd for HPUX i must detect serial numbers for
tape devices, after starting tapeutil and opening device /dev/rmt/1mnb
i get

during installation the production server hanged and we needed a reboot !

how to get rid of loaded STAPE driver (i asume it's a driver) and make it
use atdd (if installed correctly)

#dmesg returns among other stuff this ...

i asume that atdd didn't after all install/load correctly, what do you think
?

another thing on test machine command
# /opt/atdd/bin/atdd_cfg -g DEVICES

it gives 6 which is okay ... but on new machine

Error opening Configuration file /dev/rmt/atdd.cfg: rc=-1, errno=2

it seems that atdd configuration is broken ...

what to do ? remove it then reinstall ? how will device recognize that they
need atdd ?

does insf -e has options for defining which drivers shoud tape devices use ?

sooo many questions, so little answers on these holidays ... :-|

sorry for long post but i really need help,
thanks for any clue

TCPWindowsize

2005-12-27 Thread Geert De Pecker
Hi all,

We were checking the throughput on our new tsm server (5.3 on suse sles9)
and
I encountered the following in the serveroptions:

TCPWindowsize 64512

The manual states the maximum value is 2048 (which is 2mb).

Should I set it to 2048 in my dsmserv.opt or leave it as is?

Thanks,

Geert

PS: Basically, we were looking to find an answer to the intermittent disk
writes, I would
expect a streaming write instead of intermittent writes to disk.

Re: TCPWindowsize

2005-12-27 Thread John Monahan
Check out the TSM performance and tuning guide. It has specific
recommendations for all of those types of values. TCPWindowsize should be
set to 63 on Linux.

Keep in the back of your mind that you might need a larger window size for
high latency links. I'm doing some remote virtual volume work at about the
300 mile range, and the classical TCP/IP tuning recommendations for that at
gigabit speeds are much higher.

Missed admin schedule

2005-12-27 Thread Steven Harris

Hi again,

I have an Windows 2003 TSM server at 5.3.0.2 with a single admin
schedule. Its the new type of schedule, created by the ISC to run
housekeeping.

The schedule refuses to run, showing as missed every day. There is
nothing in the actlog for this schedule either at the scheduled time
or at the time that it is marked missed. There is no other admin
schedule that could conflict with this, although there is a client
schedule that kicks off at the same time each day.

I can run a one time, old style schedule (running the same script) to
recover from the problem - this has no issues whatsoever.

Has anyone seen this before?

Regards

Steve.
