Is HSM supported on Windows

2003-11-10 Thread Bill Zhang
Is Tivoli Hierarchical Storage Management supported on
windows platform. Probably not. I just want to make
sure.
I think it is supported on Unix. Thanks.

 Wolfgang,

I just installed the TSM server 5.1.5 yesterday and
only tried the first backup before hitting this
 error.
Thank you for the information. I will try all them
this evening and get the result then. If not work, I
will upgrade the server to 5.1.6.1 and see what will
 happen.

 Best regards to you.

Could this be a bug?

2003-09-16 Thread Bill Zhang
Dear All,

I have installed and configured previous of TSM
(include ADSM) up to TSM 5.1.0.

Right now, I'm doing TSM 5.1.5 on AIX.
AIX 5100-04
TSM 5.1.5
Tape Lib 3584

when I tried to make a backup, no matter what I do, I
kept getting this message Server media mount not
possible

Could this be a bug?

I know it sounds stupid to think this way, but I have
done all what I know.

TIA

Bill

 Hello Bill,
support for LTO Generation II drives was added

Once at a supported level, delete and redefine
the drives in TSM so they are properly recognized
as LTO II drives. They are most likely recognized
as generic drive now which would be the cause
 for the ANR0535W message.

 hi all

 TSM Server 5.1.5
 Client 5.1.5
 AIX 5100-04
 Tape Library 3584 with 4 3580 drives

I have 15 LTO 2 tapes in the library.
I used Webadmin GUI to label the tape thinking they
are checked in also, becuase I can see them in the
 Library Volumes window.

I set the MAX number allowed scratch wolume to 15
 for the tape pool 3584TAPEPOOL1.

 mount limit is DRIVES

When I tried to make a full backup, it pop up a
 message
server media mount not possible and in the log, it
 says

ANR0535W insufficient mount points available to
 satisfy the request.

I don't know what is wrong.

questions on DB and recovery log backup

2003-02-15 Thread Bill Zhang
Hi list,

My environment:
TSM server 5.1.0 on AIX433ML10.
TSM client 4.2.1 on the same box.

I have two questions.

Q1. Can I backup a TSM database onto a volume that has
already contained another db backup? another word,
Can I run the following command twice without failure?
  TSM backup db type=full devclass=tapeclass
volumenames=dbbk1
when I ran the command the second time, the TSM said
the dbbk1 is already in use - skipped

Q2. How to backup recovery log?
Is backing up the OS file systems on where the
recovery log was created the only way or one the ways
to do that?

Thanks a lot.

Doug,

Can a online backup backup open database files?

Can parallel backup paths, multi-thread be one of the
benefits?

Thanks.

Re: TDP R/3

2002-12-20 Thread Bill Zhang
Sorry for the confusions. What happened is
one of our clients use SAP, DB2 running on AIX.
They use TSM as their backup software and I configured
the DB2 to do online backup using TSM. They have been
performinging their backups(40 - 50 GB daily) that
way.

They called me yesterday and told me they were made to
purchase TDP for R/3 and they asked me how they can be
benefited by using it. All I know about TDP for R/3 is
from manual Tivoli Data Protectio for R/3
Installatio User s Guide for DB2 UDB. So I need
somebody who has TDP for R/3 experience give me some
points.

Thanks a lot!
