Farewell and All the Best!

2017-11-07 Thread Gergana V Markova
Today is my last day at IBM.

It has been a privilege to work with you, our end users who always GET
THINGS FIGURED OUT. For each and every one of you who have shared your
expertise, pointed out the imperfections we have created along with
amazing and simple suggestions of how to solve ( or workaround.. ) complex
issues, and shared your own How Tos with the ADSM family -- THANK YOU!!

I can't express enough the real impact this community has to shape TSM to
be the product it needs to become. All of you who dedicate your time and
share your knowledge on this list, and all of you who have participated in
the Early Access Program, Design Camps or as BETA collaborators -- YOU do
make absolute difference for both our Protect development team and all
users of TSM!
Thank you for being a wonderful group to learn from and to collaborate
with.

Keep in touch!

Re: Farewell

2017-07-20 Thread Gergana V Markova
Paul,
Thank YOU for speaking up and being an active participant in to our Early
Access Programs, BETAs and sharing your vast knowledge here at the ADSM
list of course! Our team and out customers learned a LOT!

I much appreciated collaborating with you particularly on new capabilities
for the Protect / TSM User Interface; Your understanding of what works (or
not) were super insightful and helped grasp the opportunities to make
things easy and intuitive for our protect admins. Plus your humor and
positive (but realistic) attitude brightened many days, for sure :) Not to
forget: A CLI guy, you stepped in to see how newbie admin might use the
product -- and embraced the power of envisioning it all simpler, CLI to UI
alike.

YOU did make a difference, Thanks Paul! :) Best of luck in what comes
next!

Sorry about any partial sends!

I guess it's time for me to say goodbye to this list, and to this
wonderful ADSM community. Thank you to Marist college for hosting this
list -- it has been a wonderful resource for me over the years. I started
with ADSM v1.2, sometime around 1994. I retired from Cornell a few months

and I will be following it for some time to come. Good luck to you all.

Re: Enhancement request

2015-08-12 Thread Gergana V Markova
Hello Harold,
What are the specific capabilities in the AC that you use on a daily
basis, OR enable you to complete otherwise complex tasks? What
specifically is OC missing for you?

One needs 6.3.5 server to try the Operation Center; Yet OC has build quite
smarts specifically in how it summarizes health and client status, as well
as email reports and alerts notifications action support. Give that a
try to see if it can help you and you team with daily operations and
monitoring. With each new release more and more capabilities are added.
You can check the current GA version in a pre-set env here:

I agree with Francisco's response...

Briefly, it needs (IMO) to have the capability of the Administration
Center. I do use a command line, and the beauty of the old Mozilla
browser that I can get to work is that it remembers previously issued
commands so they are very easy to repeat from day to day.

I'm running TSM Server 6.3.4.300 and perhaps the OC doesn't fully fit
with that version. But, I find I can get my work done in AdminCenter
OC doesn't meet my needs.

My primary hassle with AdminCenter is the requirement for an old
browser/Java that my security guys constantly harass me about.

 Hi,

I am using OC for a few things. The dashboard is very useful in a at
glance you can see how the state of TSM environment, the alert pane is
very good and the detail info for Clients and Servers is nice as well.
But we should encourage IBM to add more features to OC

 In my opinion OC needs:

1.- OC should have a job control monitor to stop/start/pause/cancel.
2.- OC should add the possibility to backup/restore files ( even
databases/mails/FCM/etc) in a nice way. Only one Console, Please
 don't add more consoles.
3.- OC should add install/upgrade/remove clients and DP.
4.- OC should add modify/delete Admin Tasks.5.- OC should add the
possibility to run scripts.6.- OC should add create/remove/modify
 domains, policy set, mgmts, copygs.
7.- OC should add any type of stgpools and device class. 8.- OC should
add a nice way to checking/checkout tapes.
9.- OC should have a central reporting.
 ...
 Maybe I forget sth.

 In summary,

we will need a tool to remove the CLI.

The TSM server upgrade was also easy in my environment.

Now Available: Administration Center compatible with TSM V7.1.0

2013-12-05 Thread Gergana V Markova
Tivoli Storage Manager Administration Center V6.3.4.300 is now available.
For download instructions, see:
http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg24032089

You can use this version of the Administration Center with Tivoli Storage
Manager server V6.3 (all modifications) or V7.1.0.

The 6.3.4.300 Administration Center is only being updated to work with
newer versions of the Tivoli Storage Manager server. It does not provide
any new functionality or support any additional Tivoli Storage Manager
server features.

This version of the Administration Center does not support server features
that are new with Tivoli Storage Manager server V7.1.0. For example:
- Features related to the Operations Center, such as alerts and alert life
cycle management
- Failover configuration for node replication
- New device drivers

For more information about the Tivoli Storage Manager Administration
Center, see the Tivoli Storage Manager V6.3 Information Center at:

Re: [ADSM-L] TSM for Virtual Environments - Reporting

Trying to grep that stuff out of the logs is a nightmare.
And it doesn't' cover the case where a VM gets vmotioned to a different
ESX host, and for some reason that host wasn't set up to find and backup
all VM's on it.

So Ive been tackling it from the opposite direction:
select filespace_name, date(backup_end) from filespaces where
node_name='VEDATACENTERNODE' order by 2

The good thing about VE, is that all the filespaces are stored under the
one nodename.
So I figure any VM that doesn't have a backup date of yesterday had a
backup failure, and those are the only ones I need to go looking for.

Better yet, VE 6.4 is announced and will be available 11/16.
It's supposed to have better reporting built into it, but I haven't seen
it for myself yet.

Understood. I'm looking for more of a q event type output. Maybe from
a third party reporting system. Maybe even the IBM reporting and
monitoring if anyone can suggest something. Just a one-liner, vm name,

One thing we have seen help with IE* in regards to performance, and
specifically if multiple users access the AC simultaneously, is to
increase the Java heap size of the underlying application. If the
environment where the AC is installed allows it, of course. You can use
the support utility to change the Java heap max value.

Michael,

IE7 is actually supported for Admin Center 6.2 -- as per section
Additional Software:

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21410467

MS Internet Explorer starting with 6.0 is supported with Java 1.5.0. MS

What are the issues you are seeing with IE7 for Admin Center 6.2?
Alternatively, IE8 is supported in AC 6.3. That version also supports
FF3.5 and 3.6.

IE9 or Chrome are not supported yet.

TSM on Win2K3 (32 bit),
4-way processor, 16G ram, EMC disk, 260GB TSM data base, standard d-2-t
backup, no dedup.
Runs like a cheetah.
AC on the same server as TSM.

Recently upgraded in place from
TSM 6.1.3.3 w/ AC 6.1.3 to
TSM 6.2.2.0 w/ TIP 6.2

TSM server DB2 still run like a cheetah.
But the TIP performance is miserably slw compared to previous
performance of AC 6.1.3, which was quite spiffy.
Nothing else changed with the hardware or workload; accessing the TIP the
same way we accessed AC6.1.3, from the browser on the server hosting the
TIP itself.

Can anybody point me to resources for identifying/improving TIP
performance issues?

I have ~100 policy domains on (mostly) 4 TSM server instances, each of

so that eventually, IBM will support an authentication exit so their

campus. Tivoli means manageability, right?

Now, if I'm to use the ISC, I need not merely tell all these folks
they need to know a _new_, different ID to log into the ISC, I have to
micromanage which ISC IDs are able to administer which nodes on which
