Farewell and All the Best!
Today is my last day at IBM. It has been a privilege to work with you, our end users who always GET THINGS FIGURED OUT. For each and every one of you who have shared your expertise, pointed out the imperfections we have created along with amazing and simple suggestions of how to solve ( or workaround.. ) complex issues, and shared your own How Tos with the ADSM family -- THANK YOU!! I can't express enough the real impact this community has to shape TSM to be the product it needs to become. All of you who dedicate your time and share your knowledge on this list, and all of you who have participated in the Early Access Program, Design Camps or as BETA collaborators -- YOU do make absolute difference for both our Protect development team and all users of TSM! Thank you for being a wonderful group to learn from and to collaborate with. Re: Farewell
Paul, Thank YOU for speaking up and being an active participant in to our Early Access Programs, BETAs and sharing your vast knowledge here at the ADSM list of course! Our team and out customers learned a LOT! I much appreciated collaborating with you particularly on new capabilities for the Protect / TSM User Interface; Your understanding of what works (or not) were super insightful and helped grasp the opportunities to make things easy and intuitive for our protect admins. Plus your humor and positive (but realistic) attitude brightened many days, for sure :) Not to forget: A CLI guy, you stepped in to see how newbie admin might use the product -- and embraced the power of envisioning it all simpler, CLI to UI alike. YOU did make a difference, Thanks Paul! :) Best of luck in what comes next! Sorry about any partial sends! I guess it's time for me to say goodbye to this list, and to this wonderful ADSM community. Thank you to Marist college for hosting this list -- it has been a wonderful resource for me over the years. I started with ADSM v1.2, sometime around 1994. I retired from Cornell a few months ago. I have enjoyed working with many of you, and with many IBM developers. Thank you. It is nice to see TSM continue to be developed, and I will be following it for some time to come. Good luck to you all. ..Paul

Re: Enhancement request
Hello Harold, What are the specific capabilities in the AC that you use on a daily basis, OR enable you to complete otherwise complex tasks? What specifically is OC missing for you? One needs 6.3.5 server to try the Operation Center; Yet OC has build quite smarts specifically in how it summarizes health and client status, as well as email reports and alerts notifications action support. Give that a try to see if it can help you and you team with daily operations and monitoring. With each new release more and more capabilities are added. Briefly, it needs (IMO) to have the capability of the Administration Center. I do use a command line, and the beauty of the old Mozilla browser that I can get to work is that it remembers previously issued commands so they are very easy to repeat from day to day. I'm running TSM Server 6.3.4.300 and perhaps the OC doesn't fully fit with that version. But, I find I can get my work done in AdminCenter OC doesn't meet my needs. The dashboard is very useful in a at glance you can see how the state of TSM environment, the alert pane is very good and the detail info for Clients and Servers is nice as well. But we should encourage IBM to add more features to OC In my opinion OC needs: 1.- OC should have a job control monitor to stop/start/pause/cancel. 2.- OC should add the possibility to backup/restore files ( even databases/mails/FCM/etc) in a nice way. Only one Console, Please don't add more consoles. 3.- OC should add install/upgrade/remove clients and DP. 4.- OC should add modify/delete Admin Tasks.5.- OC should add the possibility to run scripts.6.- OC should add create/remove/modify domains, policy set, mgmts, copygs. 7.- OC should add any type of stgpools and device class. 8.- OC should add a nice way to checking/checkout tapes. 9.- OC should have a central reporting. ... So Ive been tackling it from the opposite direction: select filespace_name, date(backup_end) from filespaces where node_name='VEDATACENTERNODE' order by 2 The good thing about VE, is that all the filespaces are stored under the one nodename. So I figure any VM that doesn't have a backup date of yesterday had a backup failure, and those are the only ones I need to go looking for. Re: TSM 6.2 Administration Center supported browsers
One thing we have seen help with IE* in regards to performance, and specifically if multiple users access the AC simultaneously, is to increase the Java heap size of the underlying application. If the environment where the AC is installed allows it, of course. You can use the support utility to change the Java heap max value. Thanks. Re: Client Autodeployment
Hi David, what phases of the deployment steps were you trying to automate via the command line and did not work for you -- Scheduling the deployment ? Observing the results? So we can help you with that. Any administrator who has made use of policy domains and distinct policy privs for their TSM admins is up a smelly creek without a paddle. I have ~100 policy domains on (mostly) 4 TSM server instances, each of which has its administrators. I've been telling them for 7 years or so that eventually, IBM will support an authentication exit so their ID can use the same passwords which are used everywhere else on campus. Tivoli means manageability, right? Now, if I'm to use the ISC, I need not merely tell all these folks they need to know a _new_, different ID to log into the ISC, I have to micromanage which ISC IDs are able to administer which nodes on which servers. This is a nightmare. - Allen S. Rout
