Re: BKI5012E: Cannot open TSM API message text file

2005-06-24 Thread Jozef Zatko
Ruud,
check your message file (if it si not corrupted or some other problem on
filesystem level) and if everything is OK, check your LANG environment
variable. It should contain the same value as teh name of subdirectory
in TSM API directory which contain messages file.

Hope this helps

Re: Open File (using lvsa) for windows client 5.3.0.0

2005-02-03 Thread Jozef Zatko
Hi Steve,
here is response to your problem I have found on Tivoli support site:

Problem is due to parameters. Disk on which OFS cache is stored MUST be
saved with option "Dynamic" (see option include.fs and/or fileleveltype).
It's mandatory to specify mode "SNAPSHOT" for all others disks (even if
this is the default) when we want to use OFS option.
Hereunder is an example for a valid option file :
PASSWORDACCESS GENERATE
TCPSERVERADDRESS xx
SNAPSHOTCACHELOCATION c:\tsmcache\
SNAPSHOTFSIDLEWAIT 0ms
TCPNODELAY YES
DOMAIN C: D:
Include.Fs "C:" FILELEVELTYPE=DYNAMIC
Include.Fs "D:" FILELEVELTYPE=SNAPSHOT SNAPSHOTFSIDLEWAIT=0S

Hope this helps

Open File (using lvsa) for windows client 5.3.0.0

Anyone out there been successful with this?
I have one Win2k client that needs to backup locked files and so far
have been unsuccessful getting it to work.
I did a clean install of tsm client 5.3.0.0, configured the lvsa, did
the required reboot, but the backup still fails over to non-lvsa
incremental. I have it running journaled, which works fine, and I can
see that tsm has created /tsmlvsacache directories on both the c: and d:
drives. I am using remote desktop from xp to access the server,
although I have tried using the web gui as well. I even tried pointing
the lvsacache dirs to opposite vols in the dsm.opt, but I still get the
following errors. Any pointers on how to begin to troubleshoot this
would be appreciated. The only reference a search on IBM turned up is
referencing 5.2 problems, which is supposedly one of the main fixes
included in 5.3.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Backing up Domino logged databases

2005-01-25 Thread Jozef Zatko
Bill,
after switching logging in Domino to any type (circular or archive),
incremental backup process only databases for which DBIID changed
or which were deleted (inactivation in TSM). You have to use combination
of incremental and selective backup now, i.e. daily selective and once pre
week incremental.
Hope this helps.

Backing up Domino logged databases

If I run an INCREMENTAL * backup nightly and the Domino admin turns on
circular logging, does that INCREMENTAL still function the way it did, or
does it now switch over and not back up the database becuase is it
"logged"
even though it is circular logging and I can't archive those logs?

I have a client that has been running the INCREMENTAL now for years and
last
fall the Domino admin turned on circular logging. Now the nightly
incremental only does a handful of databases.

Re: TSM 5.2, Solaris 8 w/ STK L700 9940B drive

2005-01-10 Thread Jozef Zatko
Thomas,
it is my understanding that TSM device driver does not support FC
connection to devices. You have to have SCSI connection to drives.
In your case it means, that you have to have FC HBA, which present SCSI
interface to host system (Solaris).

In your mt.conf file you have to use fo "parent" parameter value SCSI.
But I am not sure if this is true also in 5.2.

Hope this helps

Hi Jozef,

The time should have said

2/14/04 11:26:34 (dsmcad) Server Window Start: 00:00:01 on 12/15/04

Instead it said

2/14/04 11:26:34 (dsmcad) Server Window Start: 00:00:01 on 12/16/04

The two backup's that displayed this did not backup last night! (12/15)
they
will probably backup tonight.

They are both displaying

2/14/04 11:26:34 (dsmcad) Server Window Start: 00:00:01 on 12/16/04
Which is the correct date now!

Thanks

The admin CLI -DATAONLY option is platform neutral. Thus it doesn't matter
on which OS you run the admin; it should work.

Check your enUS/dsmclientV3.cat file and make sure it's modification time
matches that of the dsmadmc module.

If you continue to have trouble with this option, contact IBM technical
support.

Good Afternoon.
I have everything setup for my INTEL machine running Win2K(TSM 5.2) to
backup to my TSM server(AIX 5.2, TSM 5.22) and I kicked off the
scheduled backup. The client sits behind a firewall with port 6150 open
in 1 direction(server to client).
The server contacts the client but in the error log of the client I'm
receiving

===

SCHEDMODE PROMPTED

===

I went through the wizard and put the password in when it came to that
screen.
It's the same password as the password I had set on the server.
The server keeps connecting to the client and the client keeps putting
out the same error.
I'm not sure how to get them to sync up so the backups take place.

Thanks

Subject: RE: Running INTEL machine through firewall

I'm not sure this is documented anywhere, but I could only get a Windows
machine to work with ServerOnly If I also set SCHEDMODE to PROMPTED.

In dsm.opt:
sessioninitiation serveronly
schedmodeprompted

The password issue: The password is not "generated" the first time.
When you registered the client to the server, you assigned it a
password.

To set up the scheduler on the INTEL client, start the GUI client, from
the top menu pull down Utilites -> Setup Wizard. Check "help me
configure the scheduler".

Walk through the wizard; the wizard installs the scheduler as a Windows
Service (like an AIX daemon that is defined in /etc/inittab).

- For the "scheduler name", type in "TSM SCHEDULER", or something
similarly descriptive.

- one of the items you will be asked for is the password. The password
gets encrypted and saved in the registry so that the scheduler can
contact the TSM server.

- you will also be asked for the port, the server TCP/IP address, etc.

-When you are asked about the log file names, include/exclude, just take
the defaults.

-The only non-obvious thing: when you get to the step in the Wizard
that asks for "service login options", leave the box checked that says
"system", but change startup from Manual to "AUTOMATIC".

After you check FINISH, the service should be started (go to Start ->
Settings -> Control Panel -> Admin tools -> Services, look for TSM
Scheduler). Check the dsmsched.log file to make sure you get the
"waiting for server to contact" message, and you are good to go.

The next time the password expires, the server will "generate" a new one
and pass it down to the client.

Hope that helps...

NAS Storage for Copypools

Hi, i thought a simple question but

Can you use networkshares for storagepools?
I tried devclass file, but got an error about

ANS8000I Server command: 'define devc FILEDEV1 devtype=FILE

ANR8366E DEFINE DEVCLASS: Invalid value for DIRECTORY parameter.

Y: is a networkshare on a large NAS Box (Sharerights and acl's are ok)

I think about a configuration for copypools that use distributed non used
space...

Sending TDPD events to TEC

2004-08-25 Thread Jozef Zatko
Hello guys,
for monitoring of Domino backups I need to send TDPD messages (ACD52xx) to
TEC (tivoli receiver).
When I use enable event command on TSM server, I get following error
message:

tsm: TSM>enable event tivoli ACD5202
ANR1801E ENABLE EVENTS: Invalid event or event class - ACD5202

According to TDPD documentation, messages labeled "Centrally logged" are
sent to TSM server and then they can be sent to specified event receiver.

Following is one paragraf from TDPD manual:

Several of the Data Protection for Domino messages are sent to the Storage
Manager Server so that execution of the Data Protection for Domino can be
centrally monitored. Specifically, those messages labeled Centrally logged
can be
sent to the Storage Manager Server. The centrally logged messages are in
the range
ACD5200 through ACD5299 but not all messages in that range are sent to the
server. The Storage Manager Server then has the ability to route these
messages to
several different .receivers. which include the server activity log, the
server
console and other external monitoring facilities such as SNMP and the
Tivoli/Enterprise Console (T/EC). The Storage Manager Server command
enable
events is used to control which receivers get the Data Protection for
Domino
messages. Also, the receivers provide an ability to filter which messages
are
actually processed. Some receivers provide filtering based on message
severity
while others (such as the T/EC receiver) allow filtering on individual
message
numbers.

In TSM server refference manual I found following text in description of
enable event command:

event_name
A four-digit message number preceded by ANR for a server event or ANE
for a client event. Valid ranges are from ANR0001 to ANR and from
ANE4000 to ANE4999. Specify the NODENAME parameter if client events
are to be enabled for matching nodes. Specify the SERVERNAME
parameter if server events are to be enabled for matching servers.

For the TIVOLI event receiver, you can specify the following additional
ranges for the Tivoli Storage Manager application clients:

Tivoli Storage ManagerApplication Client Prefix Range
Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange ServerACN 3500â3649
Data Protection for Lotus Domino ACD 5200â5299
Data Protection for Oracle ANS
500â599
Data Protection for Informix ANS
600â699
Data Protection for Microsoft SQL Server ACO 3000â3999

Notes:
1. The application client must have enhanced Tivoli Event Console
support enabled in order to route the above messages to the Tivoli
Event Console.
2. Specifying the ALL option enables these messages. However, the INFO,
WARNING, ERROR, and SEVERE options have no effect on the
messages.
3. Because of the number of messages, you should not enable all messages
from a node to be logged to the Tivoli Event Console.

Does somebody know, what does it mean "enhanced Tivoli Event Console
support enabled"?
I found no information about this on IBM site, nor on ADSM.org.

TSM server: 5.2.2.5 on AIX 5.1
TDPD 5.1.5 on Windows

when you issue those commands, are you

How to block tape drive?

2004-03-23 Thread Jozef Zatko
Hello guys,
can somebody help me with following problem?
I need to backup Oracle database (many of them) using b/a TSM client by
putting Oracle into backup mode and backup all Oracle data files.
Because of activity on Oracle database, before putting Oracle database
into backup mode, I need to be sure that I have available tape drive for
backup
(backup will be done LAN-free using TSM STA).
My idea is to use script, which will select empty (or available, ie.
loaded but not used - idle) drives from drives table using select command
and then put one of them to offline until I have Oracle in backup mode,
and then put this drive back to online just before backup starts.
My problem is that from drives table it is not possible to get enough
information about state and activity of the drive. There is only
information whether drive is loaded or not.
Using "q mount" command I can get also information whether drive is "in
use" or "idle".
Is it possible to get this information also using some select command? Or
any other ideas?

Many thanks

Using more than one utility to backup Informix

2004-02-18 Thread Jozef Zatko
Hello guys,
I have one quick (hope easy) question about backing up Informix databases.
Is it safe to use two different backup tools independently to backup
Informix data?
I have Informix server, which was backed up using Ontape. Recently we
implemented TDP for Informix and started to use onbar. But Informix admin
still wants (at least for some time ) to use also Ontape.
I am not sure how these backup utilities manage Informix logs. Isn't it
possible that Ontape during its backup will backup also some logs which
will not then be backed up by onbar (will be marked as archived)? Is it
possible that later restore using onbar will not be done correctly because
of this? My version of Informix is
7.31UC3

Multiple backup of a file that doesn't change?

Hi all

First of all... I'm not drunk, on drugs or anything like that - only a
severe headache

I have a NetWare 5.1 SP3 (I know it's old...), TSA5UP12 is applied, TSM
Client 5.1.6.0 - and running a normal scheduled incremental backup every
night... and still I've a screendump in front of me where I can read the
following:

Opticut.exe (active), Modified: 01-12-1999 15:27:12, Created: 08-06-2001
18:19:25, Backed Up: 28-07-2003 21:15:17
Opticut.exe (inactive), Modified: 01-12-1999 15:27:12, Created: 08-06-2001
18:19:25, Backed Up: 25-07-2003 03:31:21

How can this happen

Regards
Flemming

Compression will not help in this case, since all compression must be done
and undone by the clients cpu, this will put more load and the novell
server and not alieviate it as you might think. What are the sizes of the
files being backed up (in general)? What is the size of the cpu that is
being used on the server? How much ram is available? and last but not
least what are the comm buffer settings on the client?

Jozef,

This is normal TSM policy management.
If you have VEREXISTS set to 2,
when you take the 3rd full backup, the oldest
inactive copy will be deleted when the
next expiration process is run.

Thanks,

Del

TDP for Domino - expiration

2003-06-30 Thread Jozef Zatko
Helo guys,
I have one question about data expiration for which I can not find clear
answer in doc.
When I have lets say 30GB of Domino databases and I set up backup policy
to have two versions of data.
I backup databases every day and all databases are changing daily (so all
databases are backed up every day - I now, time for transaction logging).
On first day I get active version of all databases, on second day I get
new active version and version from first day becomes inactive. And now my
 question.
When does oldest inactive version expire? It expires during backup on
thirsth day or I have to run expire inventory after backup to free space
taken by expired data?
I need to know how much data space I need in storage pool to hold the
backed up data - two timesor three times the amount of backed up data.

Thank you very much

Re: lotus tdp install problems

2003-06-18 Thread Jozef Zatko
Michelle,
I bet you installed patch 1.1.2 for TDP for Domino without previous
instaling of base TDPD version from CD. This patch does not include
correct licence file.
You have to install base version of TDP for Domino first (TDPD 1.1) and
then you can instal TDPD 1.1.2 patch.
Or better, ask for latest 5.1.5 version of TDPD.

Hope this helps

Interesting LTO fault's symptom

Hi all,

during last weeks I did interesting findings at one of production LTO
3583-L18 library. There are 2 drives and both was changed past series of
media faults (one of them twice) past about 1 year of operation. We have
about 20 "historicaly touched" tapes with average 3-4 write faults. Media
faults are still repeated and my finding is all that faults were done at
70-75% of estimated capacity (set by longterm using to 105GB, we use
client
compression) during filling the tape. It seems like all tapes were
corrupted
nearly at the same place, of course there is some diffusion because this
is
only estimated filling. Faults at these tapes are repeatedly occured at
these percents of max capacity.

I understand when one tape has media fault repeatedly at the same place,
but
about 20 tapes? Could it mean that all tapes were corrupted by one bad
drive
at the same place, or can be reason at microcode?

We are in contact with our IBM support to solve it, but I am interested if
anybody of you register similar phenomenon?

Tomas

I ran into the same problem. This is documented in the knowledge base as
a known error. If you run the domino server as a windows app instead of a
service, this works around the problem.

Subject: tdp for domino problem, which user ID for backup?

Hello TSM-ers,
two or three weeks ago I asked list to help me with Domino backup. The
problem was that, when I used TDP GUI or command line for backup I always
got couple of the following error messages for various databases:

04/02/2003 08:38:53 Backup of admin4.nsf failed.
04/02/2003 08:38:53 This database is currently being used by someone else.
In order to share a Notes database, all users must use a Domino Server
instead of a File Server.

I have done some tests and I found out one interesting thing. Succesfull
backup of some Domino databases (especialy system databases like names.nsf,
admin4.nsf and so on) depends on user ID under which domdsmc or TDP for
Domino GUI is running.

My environment is as follows:
Domino 6.0 on Windows 2000 SP3 running as service under Local system user
TDP for Domino 5.1.5, TSM client 5.1.5.4 TSM server 5.1.5.4 on AIX 5.1

When I used domdsmc or TDP GUI as user Administrator, I always got error
messages like the one above for some of databases. Databases for which I
got this error were not always the same. Sometimes some of databases was
backed up succesfuly, sometimes not.

When I run domdsmc via TSM scheduler, which is running under Local system
user ID, all databases was backed up without errors.

When I stoped Domino server and started it in foreground using
Administrator ID, I could sucessfuly backup all databases with TDP GUI and
also with domdsmc (using Administrator ID).

So it seems that it depends on user ID, under which is Domino server
running and also user ID under which is TDP for Domino running. When
standard Domino instalation procedure is used, Domino server will run as
service with Local system user ID and then you can not backup all databases
corectly using TDP GUI or command line.

Is it working as designed or is it bug?

Josef,

I nearly didn't reply to this because of your inappropriate subject line -
I'll assume it was a mistake.

RMAN generates its own names for the backuppieces, but the oracle admin has
control of the prefix used.
One option that they can use is different prefixes for different
retentions, and then use these prefixes in their delete scripts.
TDPO doesn't care. It holds its data until RMAN tells it to delete. It
is the DBA's problem not yours.

Jozef,

The "preference" information, by default,
comes from DOMDSM.CFG not DOMDSM.OPT
(unless you override it on the command-line.)

DOMDSM.CFG is the "DP for Domino" config/preferences file.
DSM.OPT is the TSM API config file.
These are two different files with different uses.

You can turn on tracing for DP for Domino by adding
this to the invocation:

/TRACEFLAG=ALL /TRACEFILE=filename.txt

If you want it examined by support, you will need to
call IBM support.

Jozef,

This normally means that Data Protection for Domino
is picking up the wrong NOTES.INI file.
To help resolve this issue...

1. Make sure that NOTESINIPATH setting is pointing to the
correct directory containing the NOTES.INI file
   of the active Domino Server.

2. Make sure there is not a NOTES.INI file in the
\WINNT or \WINNT\SYSTEM32 directory. The Domino Server
API code looks there first, even if you specify
the directory where you want it to look.

3. If the above two things do not resolve the issue,
search for all occurences of the NOTES.INI file
on your machine and find out if it is picking
that one up first. You could do this by
temporarily renaming all of them EXCEPT the
one that your active Domino Server is using.

Thanks,

TDP for Domino 5.1.5 problem

2003-03-11 Thread Jozef Zatko
Hi TSM-ers
I have following problem with Domino backup:
when I do backup of Domio databases (GUI or cmd line) I always got a lot of
following mesages:

03/11/2003 09:40:02 This database is currently being used by someone else.
In order to share a Notes database, all users must use a Domino Server
instead of a File Server.
03/11/2003 09:40:08 Backup of names.nsf failed.
03/11/2003 09:40:08 This database is currently being used by someone else.
In order to share a Notes database, all users must use a Domino Server
instead of a File Server.
03/11/2003 09:40:10 Backup of catalog.nsf failed.

Environment:

Domino 6.0 server on Windows 2000 SP3
TDP for Domino 5.1.5
TSM client 5.1.5.4
TSM server 5.1.5.2 on AIX 5.1

I can backup all ntf files and most of nsf databases, but some of databases
fail to backup - names.nsf allways fail
I can open all databases with LN client without any problem (through Domino
server of course).
All tasks on Domino server were stoped except DB server.
No antivirus or other SW, which could lock files.
our Domino admin checked that nobody is using databases via filesystem (not
through Domino server)

Does somebody know what could be the reason for this kind of failure ?

I know it is probably Domino problem, but hope somebody can help.

Hi Again!

I have a real research about your problem. (I was have a good time. Learn
me alot about TSM).
I got some wild ideas how we can sold it but after a wild I start from the
begingn again.
The only thing i know right now is that.
You can not send data direct to the SAN disk you most send data to the TSM
Server first and after that send data to the SAN Disk
And the only way to do that is to create a file device and boundle it to a
Storage device.
That is the only way to do it.
And you don´t need to create a library or path to fix that. Becuse the
Device Class "File" can not boundle to a Library.
If you most create a Library (I don´t know way) can you try with Removable
Media and File Library and File Drive.
That is the only way to do it.
Another way is to use command "Define Datamover". But that is only when you
use NAS. Datamover have support for SCSI aswell but I don´t know if that is
enough.
But good luck!

Re: Help setting up RMAN w/ TDP 2210

2003-02-25 Thread Jozef Zatko

Hi Theresa,
I had similar problem. Check your LANG environment variable for user under
which you are running backup scripts (RMAN).
It should be equal to language used in TSM API.
For example:
if you have En_US subdirectory in TSM api client, your LANG variable have
to be LANG=En_US.

Hope this helps

Hi all;

I'm having all kinds of problems and am hoping someone can assist me with
this setup...as I'm all confused at this point.

Environment:
AIX 51 ML3
TSM Server 5162
TSM (ba) Client 510 (64 bit)
TSM (api) Client 4210 (32 bit)
TDP (oracle) Client 2210 (32 bit)
Oracle Enterprise Server 817

As this server is running AIX5 w/ Oracle 817 databases I had to install TDP
2210 (if I read the documentation right), and TDP 22 installed the 4210 (32
bit) API.

No matter what we try RMAN will not backup, we went from seeing the
following errrors:

RMAN-03007: retryable error occurred during execution of command: allocate
RMAN-07004: unhandled exception during command execution on channel dev1
RMAN-10035: exception raised in RPC: ORA-19554: error allocating device,

ORA-27000: skgfqsbi: failed to initialize storage subsystem (SBT) layer
IBM AIX RISC System/6000 Error: 2534: System call error number 2534.

to this error:

RMAN-03007: retryable error occurred during execution of command: allocate
RMAN-07004: unhandled exception during command execution on channel dev1

ORA-27000: skgfqsbi: failed to initialize storage subsystem (SBT) layer
IBM AIX RISC System/6000 Error: 2518: System call error number 2518.

I tripple checked that the libobk.a file is linked to the correct location:
/c2qnu01/u01/oracle/product/8.1.7/lib>ls -la libobk.a
lrwxrwxrwx   1 oracle   dba  17 Feb 21 11:20 libobk.a ->
/usr/lib/li
bobk.a

Output of tdpo.opt:
DSMI_ORC_CONFIG/usr/tivoli/tsm/client/api/bin/dsm.opt.oracle
DSMI_LOG /usr/tivoli/tsm/client/api/bin
TDPO_FSadmsorc
TDPO_NODE c2qnu01_oracle
TDPO_OWNER oracle
TDPO_PSWDPATH /usr/tivoli/tsm/client/oracle/bin

I have attached the dsm.opt and dsm.sys files for your review. I have
linked them both from the api directory back to the ba/bin directory:

lrwxrwxrwx   1 root system   44 Feb 21 16:22 dsm.opt.oracle ->
/usr/
tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/dsm.opt.oracle
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root system   37 Feb 20 16:05 dsm.sys ->
/usr/tivoli/
tsm/client/ba/bin/dsm.sys

The password file was generated fine and I was able to run the tdpoconf
showenv, the contents of which I included. I also provided the
tdpoerror.log - though I don't think it'll help any.

I've gone through all relevant archive articles and nothing seems to apply
to my situation. I also opened a PMR with TSM Support, but I haven't heard
anything back yet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you;
Theresa

Could this be a reason for crashing the server?

Have you checked access right for user under which TSM server is running to
shared directory?
I have got this error message when TSM server had not proper access rights
to shared directory. Take care especialy if you are using NT domain users.
If I remember correctly (It is quite a long time since I did this kind of
configuration), user "system", (under which, I believe, TSM server is
running by default) is normaly not a member of NT domain.

Sorry to say, you might have had a version with a big HOLE in it; both FILE
and DISK storage pool volumes must be "local" devices to Win2K... using
4.2.1.0. This may be a problem with my 4.2.1 system -- as I recall,
SANergy is designed to help this type situation using SAN-based disk pools;
it failed on LAN connection with:
ANR8366E DEFINE DEVCLASS: Invalid value for DIRECTORY parameter.

Separately, with TSM's virtual volumes, a TSM server on the Linux box could
be used to store data from the Win2K server, using DISK storage pool,
archive objects, etc.

Hi Etienne,
it is easy. I suppose you have a server with disk capacity, which you want
use for TSM to store data. I do not know if that remote machine is Windows
or Unix system. It is possible to use both of them (I actually worked only
with Windows system but with NFS in Unix it should be also possible).

On Windows system you create shared directory, which TSM server will use
for file volumes. You must assign access proper rights to this share for
user, under which TSM server is running, so that TSM server can access this

Let say for example that your remote machine is named "server1" and shared

If TSM server have proper access rights, you can create storage pool on
this shared directory like this:

define devclass remotefile devt=file maxcap=200M directory=\\server1\data

define stg filestg remotefile maxscr=100

You have to be carefull about setting maxscr parameter. This parameter
depends on maxcap parameter from device class. If you multiply this two
number, the result should not be greater than storage capacity you have
available on remote server (in my example I assume you have 20 GB).

Hello,

I would like to know if it is possible to have a storage pool on a remote
machine without installing TSM on it. Typically, what I wan't to do is to
use space on a remote server to have a disk or a file storage pool on it. I
tried with a file device class and it allows only local disks. A disk
devices class goes a little further, but when it tries to format the
volume, there's an error. One possibility would be to create a local file
storage pool and then to copy the files on the remote servers and put the
file volumes in offline state, or something like that, but is there
something easier ?
I tried that with TSM 5.1.5

Try checkout this volume from library and then do label libvolume.

I have seen some messages here recently about 3583 drive errors.
I have a 3584 with (8) Fibre drives going through McData switches.
with TSM Server 4.2.2.10 on AIX 4.3.3 ML 10 and Atape sdriver
7.1.1.0. 3584 library code 2460 and drive code 25D4.
Have had 3584 about a year. Have had intermittant
errors maybe 2-3 times a month, but noticed that were only
happening on DRIVE1 which has control path. Moved Control
path to DRIVE5 and sure enough the errors were then happening
on that drive.

Working with our IBM CE on this for several months, IBM Tucson
initially was saying that the errors we were getting were media errors.
But I could reuse tha same tape and it would have no more problems.
On some instances, the tape would not be dismounted from drive
but have to have drive reset for eject.

Finally in late December my IBM CE called and said that IBM Tucson
had seen this problem all over and it was happeing on the Fibre Drives, the
drive that the Control Path was on and going through either IBM
2109 or McData switches. These were the common factors. IBM is
working on a code fix (I assume for drives and/or library).

I suspect problem could be happening on 3583 also.

Hi,
I have exactly the same problem except that I have TSM server on AIX 5.1.
It is very strange, because it happens randomly always during unmounting
the tape.
It is always the same drive - /dev/rmt0.
Tape remains in the drive. I can unload tape using operator panel without
any problem. But if I want to use tapeutil utility I get following error
when I try to open device /dev/rmt0

Operation failed with errno 79: Connection refused

I have to reset SAN Data Gateway and then the drive is again accesible with
tapeutil and also from TSM server.

Does somebody know, what does error message : Operation failed with errno
79: Connection refused
mean? Where I can find information about this error number. I was looking
in Atape driver doc but there is no mention about this message.
In output from errpt there is no error from fibre adapter nor from tape
drive.

Here is copy of Event log from SAN DAta Gateway:

Re: LTO 3583 drive problem.

2003-02-11 Thread Jozef Zatko
Hi,
I have exactly the same problem except that I have TSM server on AIX 5.1.

The TDP for Oracle documentation says that the TDP for Oracle will not work
with PASSWORDACCESS=generate (see the options section under Part 2 of the
chapter on configuring the TDP).

Hello guys,
I have a problem with Oracle backup with TDPO 2.2.1.

Environment:
TSM server 5.1.5.4 on AIX 5.1
Oracle 8.1.7
TDPO 2.2.1
TSM API client 4.2.1

The backup fails with following error (copy from RMAN backup log):

ORA-19511: ANS0236E (RC2032) On dsmInit, the owner is not allowed when
PASSWORDACCESS=generate.

In messages, I found this explanation to this error number:

ANS0236E On dsmInit, the owner is not allowed
when PASSWORDACCESS=generate.

Explanation: PASSWORDACCESS=generate
establishes a session with the current login user as the
owner.
System Action: The system returns to the calling
procedure.

User Response: When using
PASSWORDACCESS=generate, set clientOwnerNameP
to NULL.

Does somebody know what is the clientOwnerNameP and where I can set it to
NULL?

Re: TDP for Domino ACD5130E message

2003-01-15 Thread Jozef Zatko
Hi Brian,
couple of things to check.

Is your TDP fo Domino using correct notes.ini file? I already had problem
with this. On Domino server there was couple of copies of notes.ini file in
various
directiries and despite the fact I had in domdsm.cfg set the correct one,
TDP was using another copy of notes.ini from different directory, which
contained wrong oprions.

Another problem can be with options keyfilename and serverkeyfilename (or
something like that) in notes.ini. Your keyfilename should point to your
server id. TDP for Domino is not using serverkeyfilename option (according
to my experiences).

Hope this helps

Good morning all.

First things first. We are running TSM 4.2.1.9 on OS/390 2.10. Also
running TSM 4.1.2.12 on NT and TDP for Domino 1.1. All of our Domino
servers ( 6 ) are configured the same way but one of our Domino servers is
receiving the following message when we attempt to restore a mail file:

ACD5130E - Could not initialize the connection to Lotus Domino properly
error=416.

This is a pretty generic message an indicates either a TDP or Domino
install problem. This server is however backing up without issue and we
have been able to do restores in the past. We did have this same issue once
before on this server and we did a re-install of TDP which appeared to have
corrected this issue until today.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so is it a known problem
with a fix available? I am aware that the TSM client version is no longer
supported and that TDP 1.1 will be unsupported in April of this year.

 Any help is greatly appreciated.

 Thanks.
Brian

Re: Oracle RMAN error

2003-01-09 Thread Jozef Zatko
Hi guys,
I have very similar problem with TDPO 2.2.1, except that I do not get error
messages, but rman coredumps. My TSM server is 5.1.5.4 on AIX 5.1
and client is 5.1 on AIX 5.1. All 32 bits.
According to my investigations, there is something wrong with using
libobk.a by rman. Rman coredumps when trying to use this library with
"allocate chanel" command.
Could you please share info about solution when you find some?

One of thing which confuses me is, that according to TDPO manual, you
should set passwordaccess to prompt, not to generate. API clients usualy
require passwordaccess set to generate.

Somebody can shed some light?

We have Oracle 8.1.7.4.0 (32 bit)on AIX 4.3.3 and TDPO 2.2.1.0.
TSM server is 4.2.2.10. The client is a new setup. When DBA
tries to do a test backup with his RMAN script, he gets the following
error messages:

-
RMAN-03007: retryable error occurred during execution of command:
allocate
RMAN-10035: exception raised in RPC: ORA-19554: error allocating
device, device type: SBT_TAPE, device name:
ORA-19557: device error, device type: SBT_TAPE, device name:
ORA-19511: Unknown SBT error code = 0, errno = 0
--

I have run "tdpoconf showenv" and all looks good. We have slightly
earlier versions of Oracle and TDPO on other AIX machines and it
runs o.k. Just copied RMAN script to this machine and touched up
for this node. Have checked a few things and all looks o.k.

Any suggestions?

Christian,
you can use NAS device as a backup unit, but according to my experiences
only as a sequential media. Network attached drives are not functioning
correctly (probably because of the way the connection to file server is
kept). I was using network drives for sequential volumes without any
problems.

Hi Eduardo,
could you please provide the content of your dsm.opt and dsm.sys? Also, are
you trying to backup your database with scheduler or by hand from command
line.

When you want backup one database with two different node names, you have
to have correct environment DSMI_CONFIG,(I assume your platform is
Unix) for particular TSM node in user environment, who owns database
instance. Are tou sure you are switching your environment correctly?

Hi,

this is a NT2000 related question
but anyone else might had had same headache:

I try to mail a (grep of) tsmsched.log
to backup admin
via PostSchedCMD under W2K.

On my W2K workstation,
having Outlook installed, configured and running
and using small sendmail utility
I fail to mail the results because of MAPI logon failure,
event if all TSM services run under my local account
and I am logged on.

Maybe someone out there does succesfully
use another tool or equivalent reporting method?

Del,

you`re right, of course. I thougt it works like the TDP fpr Oracle, where
RMAN is in charge.
We made the incremental on the 5th of july and our policy says that we
retain data for 42 Days. So we should see a large decrease after 42
days,... .

Dear Josef,

your hint was successful, but only the tdp way. We could see, that after
doing a incremental backup there were 5500 transaction logs discarded. So
on the first stage we were happy.

But, the expiration of the db and the reclaim didn`t free up as much as
expected. It looks like that the expire only scans the first 1/5 of the
db.
Therefore the expire discards only a very few db-objects and the
aftergoing
reclaimation process could free up only a few tapes. The "funny side"
(ouch
! ) is that the expire process ends always with a state of success. But we
could swear there MUST be a lot more db objects to inspect. Maybe this
happens some time before we dealed with the tdp stuff.

So I belive we have another problem, this time a db Problem.

Anybody any ideas ???

Re: solaris expert needed

2002-07-12 Thread Jozef Zatko

Acording to Tivoli web site, this library is supported from TSM 4.2. Do
you have at least this version of TSM server and TSM device driver?
And another point:
try to use native Solaris tape driver - st. In st.conf put the same as in
your mt.conf and change "mt" to "st". Then try "add_drv st" command. If
this will work
you are sure your HW is OK.

Hope this helps.

Re: solaris experts plz help

2002-07-12 Thread Jozef Zatko

Hi Gerald,
if I understand you are confused from having more devices with the same
SCSI target and LUN. It is OK. Theese targets and LUNs are on different
SCSI
adapters or different SCSI channels on one SCSI adapter. When you run
add_drv command, system checks all devices with specified target and LUN
(from conf file) on all adapters. In Solaris theese devices have actualy
special device file in different subdirectory under /device directory. If
you get error messages
from add_drv command, usually there is problem with SCSI connection or TSM
device driver support.
Acording to your output from probe-scsi-all your SCSI connection seems to
be all right. Have you checked if your tape and optical drives are
supported in
TSM version you are using? Oh, what is your version of TSM?

Yes that's actually a typo (the "lb" in places where it should be "op" or
"mt"). My conf files are correct in that sense (i.e. I wasn't
cutting/pasting them). The problem I'm having is I'm not sure how to
interpret what LUN a device is on or what the TARGET is by looking at the
output from probe-scsi-all..

Hello Gerald,
you have to change your conf files like this:

lb.conf
if the scsi target and luns for your libraries are OK, you do not have to
change this file.

op.conf
replace all "lb" with "op" (in this file you define only optical drives,
not changer). For each optical drive create one stanza with correct target
and lun of each drive (so you will have 10 stanzas in your conf file).

Example

Name="op" class="scsi"
 Target=X lun=Y;

X is SCSI target ID of optical drive and Y is LUN of that drive

mt.conf
here replace "lb" with "mt" (in this file you define only tape drives, not
changer). For each tape drive create one stanza with correct target and
lun of each drive (so you will have 4 stanzas in your conf file).

Example

Name="mt" class="scsi"
 Target=X lun=Y;

X is SCSI target ID of tape drive and Y is LUN of that drive

Hello Gerald,
you have to change your conf files like this:

lb.conf
if the scsi target and luns for your libraries are OK, you do not have to

op.conf
replace all "lb" with "op" (in this file you define only optical drives,
not changer). For each optical drive create one stanza with correct target

Example

Name="op" class="scsi"
 Target=X lun=Y;

Example

Name="mt" class="scsi"
 Target=X lun=Y;

X is SCSI target ID of tape drive and Y is LUN of that drive

Robert,
if volumes are alredy labeled and you only need insert them to library,
use checkin libv command. If volumes are not yet labeled, you must label
them with
label libv command.

Hi

I have a scalar 1000 library and need to add a lot of new scratch volumes.
Can I do just a:
checkin libv scalar status=scratch search=bulk
checklabel=barcode

or I need the first time to do:
  label libv scalar checkin=scratch search=bulk
labelsource=barcode volrange=01,50

When I did a label libv each cartridge was mounted in the drive and the
process can take a long time.

Re: Technical question.

2002-06-07 Thread Jozef Zatko

Christian,
there is no problem to run two TSM servers on one machine. You can have on
both machines installed two TSM servers (one active and
second inactive but ready to use in case of fail).
Then, when one of them fail, you can restore its database (from latest
backup) on second machine and run both servers simultaneously.
Or you can backup TSM database on each other via server-to-server
configuration.
Another question is if you need to automate this proces. Probably the best
solution would be to use cluster (if it is possible, as I do not know your
platform, servers location and so on).

Hope this helps

Gerald,
device file /dev/rmt/0mt is for drive, not for library. You should have in
your /dev/rmt directory something like xlb, where x is number which depend
on the order, in which you run add_drv commands for drives and library. It
does not matter what this number is, but you have to have this file in
your
/dev/rmt directory and use it in def libr command. Sample content of my
directory /dev/rmt is:

Bern,
thank you for your advice. But I have non IBM DLT drive. The problem is,
that software driver for my HBA does not create standard
SCSI devices (with SCSI target and LUN) in Solaris, so it is not possible
to use TSM device driver, which is AFAIK, driven to use only SCSI devices.

This is part of my messages file:
/pci@4,4000/SUNW,qlc@3/fp@0,0/st@w10e00221f7f5,0 (st85):

/pci@4,4000/SUNW,qlc@3/fp@0,0/st@w10e00221f7f5,0 (st85) online

AFAIK TSM device driver for nonIBM devices support only SCSI devices, not
FC devices. Or am I missing something?

Now I am going to change Fcode in HBA so that it will be original Qlogic
2200 and I will use Qlogic device drivers. According to Tivoli
it should be supported configuration.

Hello Jozef,

I just got thru doing something like this with a similar setup:
we use Emulex LP8000 cards for the HBA's onto an IBM 3584 with LTO drives
and a Mcdata switch. There are 4 things that need to be done or it won't
work:
0. Ensure that you've moved the /kernel/drv/st.conf somewhere else.
Solaris
will try and grab your scsi tape devices otherwise.
1. Make sure your fabric is set up correctly and that at boot up
(ck the /var/adm/messages files) you see your IBMtape device drivers and
HBA acquired targets. Here's a clip of what I'm talking about:

May 3 18:04:35 bst7-1 unix: IBMtape254 at lpfc1:
May 3 18:04:35 bst7-1 unix: IBMtape178 at lpfc1:

2
May 3 18:04:35 bst7-1 unix: NOTICE: lpfc1: Acquired FCP/SCSI Target 9 LUN
3

3. Next check that your /usr/kernel/drv/IBMtape.conf file has the
requisite
objects not #'d out. We typically leave all 16 instances open.

Helo *SM-ers
In my test environment I am trying to connect TSM server on Solaris to
SAN-attached SCSI library Compaq TL891. My environment is as follows:

TSM server 4.2.1.9 on Sun Solaris 2.8 with Sun PCI FC HBA (OEM of Qlogic
2200) - part No. X6799A with device driver Qlogic FCA Driver v0.40.5.
Library contains one Quantum DLT7000 drive and is attached to Crossroads
4250. TSM server and Crossroads are attached to FC switch Brocade
Silkworm.

In Solaris I can see DLT drive and Library, but when I try to use TSM
device driver (using command "add_drv mt") it runs without any error
messages, but it does not create special device file in directory
/dev/rmt.

Does anyone of you, guys, have gone through this with success? If yes, can
you please share your configuration and versions of device drivers,
firmware and so on?
I am also going to ask Tivoli support if Sun FC HBA has already been
tested with TSM.

hi Denis

if you ask for my opinion i do not recomend lanfree backups, why thats
spimle when you do a restore it dosn?t matter if your using san or not
youre
restore data always goes trough the lan. and that?s bad, then you have
lost
75% of your reason to have lanfree backups, because what is here that
relay
matters. It is your restore time, and that will stay exacly the same.

This bug will not be fixed until TSM V 5.1 comes out.

James,
I think that better solution is to use FREQUENCY parameter in copy group
definition of your new management class. Set it to 7 days if you want to
backup

have to include .pst files in dsm.opt.

Hope this helps.

Subject:Question regarding including an excluded type of file.

We are also opening an issue Tivoli, but we seem to get faster and better
results from our comrades on the list server. This is our problem:

We are drowning in pst files, which are "changed" each time an individual
opens his e-mail. We have made a corporate decision to back these up once
each weekend, and exclude them the rest of the week. These are the steps
that we have taken:

1. On each NT server, we have excluded all files that end in "pst."
Exclude *:\...\*.pst

2. I created a new management class through the web interface, called
"pstfiles," with versions data deleted set to 4, and retain extra versions
set for 90 days. Even though the excluded files would normally be
deleted,
this management class will keep 4 sets inactive.

3. I created two new schedules, one to run on Friday evening and one
Saturday evening, figuring that one will successfully back up the pst
files.

THE PROBLEM is that I cannot successfully code the include statement on
the
schedule through the web interface. My intent is to Include *:\...\*.pst
pstfiles . This should override the exclude statement in the dsm.opt
file,
backup the pst files and associate them with the management class
pstfiles.

On the Object line of the web interface, I have tried variations of the
following commands:

Include *:\...\*.pst pstfiles The word "include" was not needed.
*:\...\*.pst pstfiles TSM attempted to backup pst files, and a
separate filesystem
pstfiles.
'*:\...\*.pst pstfiles' TSM failed to associate pst files with the
management class.
"'*:\...\*.pst pstfiles'" The double quotes were replaced
with
a square, I presume because
TSM did not recognize the symbol.

Does anyone have a recommendation as to how to best handle this?

Re: DB2 SQL2062N Reason code: "420"

2002-01-17 Thread Jozef Zatko

Hello Malbourgh,
the server you have upgraded was TSM server or server where you have TSM
client with DB2 database?
Can you send the content of your dsm.sys (if you are using separate
dsm.sys for ba and api send both of them)?
I had the same problem and the solution was to use Passworddrir option in
dsm.sys because my ba client was using the same
password file as my api client (I used separate dsm.sys for ba and api and
I had the same server name in both of them).

By the way, what level is DB2? In older versions of DB2 was ADSM client
included and it is recomended not to use this client but latest
TSM api client. Check your paths to make sure you dont have mixed versions
of TSM and ADSM api clients.

Hope this helps

I do not have enough disk capacity on TSM server, so I would like to use
disk from another Windows server.
The problem with mapped drive is that after restart is not available to TSM
service until logon of user.

Thanks and regards

Re: Fileclass Mounting problem (unable to reclaim to tape)

2001-11-16 Thread Jozef Zatko

Eugene,
try to check mountlimit in devclas FILECLASS and in LTO_DEV1 using command
q devcl fileclass f=d
In devclass FILECLASS there should be no higher mount limit than in
devclass LTO_DEV1.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I'm trying to reclaim or 'push' my data from my fileclass to a tape,
but
they don't seem to be working. All they do is to wait to be mounted, but I
can't seem to be able to mount them, can anyone help me figure out what I
should be doing?

in volhistory.

I hope this will help

Hi,

One of my servers has 2 LTO drives, of which the 2nd drive is being
used
as copy stgpool. But our management has decided to take away that second
drive so that it can be installed in another server. So for the past hour
or
so, I have been updating our schedules etc so that nothing points to the
2nd
LTO drive. Everything seems to be going fine, except one last thing! I
can't
seem to be able to do a 'delete devclass' of my 2nd LTO drive. Can any of
you guys try to point out what's wrong? I've cracked my head but I can't
seem to find any portion that points to the 2nd LTO device. This is what my
dev classes look like:

tsm: SAPROD>q devclass

DeviceDevice Storage DeviceFormat Est/Max

Class AccessPool Type Capacity

FILECLASS Sequential 1 FILE 4.0
1
LTO_DEV1 Sequential 1 LTO DRIVE
1
LTO_DEV2 Sequential 0 LTO DRIVE

I'm trying to delete LTO_DEV2. Here's more info about it, followed by
the error message I get when I try to delete the device.

OK, so I think no big deal, it's probably still in use somewhere, so I
go ahead and try to find out where it's being used.

2001-08-23 Thread Jozef Zatko

Hi *SMers,
our customer wants to implement TSM on OS/390 with 3494 library. I would
like to now some experiences with TSM4.2 on OS/390 with
3494 library. We have to decide between 4.1 and 4.2.

Any experiences appreciated.

Re: Fake filespace?

Jack,
zou can use virtualmountpoint option and then domain option. You will find
details in "Using backup-archive clients for Unix" manual.
