TSM 5.5.7

2016-02-03 Thread Morris.Marshael
I'm in need of a little assistance
Yes I know this is an older version but we've not been able to procure a proper
server to upgrade so I'm here with this version
I'm trying to restore a file from one know in one TSM server to another node in
another TSM server
I've put this into the dsm.sys file:
Servername TSMSERVERNAME_restore
NODENAMEHOSTNAME-TO-BE-RESTORED
COMMmethod TCPIP
TCPPORT 1500
TCPServeraddressTSMSERVERNAME
SCHEDLOGNAME/var/tsm/sched_log
SCHEDLOGRETENTION 31,D
ERRORLOGNAME/var/tsm/dsmerror.log
ERRORLOGRETENTION 31,D
passwordaccess generate
managedservice webclient schedule
TXNBYTElimit25600

And I'm running this command:
restore /path/name/filename /restore/location/
and it communicates to the correct server but doesn't restore the file as all
I'm getting is:
Restore function invoked.

** Interrupted **
ANS1114I Waiting for mount of offline media.

Any pointers out there would be helpful

I've seen something similar in the non sharing environment if the
element number to drive relationship is whacked. For instance, you
suggest that the drive at /rmt0 is element 256 when in reality it's 257.
The library is instructed to mount a tape in element 256 and then TSM
looks for tape in /rmt0.

Verify that the paths and element numbers actually line-up correctly.

Also turn the SAN Discovery option ON, we have figured out that the only
way SAN Discovery would work was to run TSM as Root in UNIX. If you
have SAN Discovery option ON, it is supposed to fix any discrepancy.

I would make a spread sheet of all devices for library manager/client
and update the path definition on Library manager to reflect that. Here
is any example of one, in this case the rmt number match for Library
Manager and clinet. When you define a drive leave the default for
serial option and for the path definition use autodetect=yes which
is not default.

Are you comparing the element number/serial number on each rmt device on
the client with the path definition for the client on the library
manager. rmt2 on the manager is not necessarily the same as rmt2 on the
client and the path statements on the library manager have to resolve
any differences.

Hi ,

I hope I understood your question well: you are wandering why your TSM is
using so many tapes ? Correct ?

I should start finding out how many bytes per client is sent per backup
cycle.
You could run sql's for that (some of them have been reported here today
or yesterday) but personally I use the TSM Operation Reporting Tool for
that.
You could also run q actlog begind=-1 search=[client_name] msg=4961

Then look more in detail into this big consumers and determine
a. if it is normal that they send NNN GB per night
b. check the filesystem (q filespace [client name] ;
do you see filespaces that should have been excluded/ is you client
perhaps backing up SAN disks while it shouldn't ?
c. q occ [client] tells you where this client is storing its data (LTO,
disk, LTO2 etc)

Start there and based on the outcome, continue searching. Don't be
surprised if you don't find any abnormalities. Maybe you need more
tapes/libraries because your data has grown enormously over the year.

Subject:Error when adding a tape volume to a storage pool

When I try to add particular tape volume to the ADSM storage pool,
the following error is returned:

ANS8500I Addition of object cannot be completed due to the following
error:
ANR2400E Volume ADM060 is already defined in a storage pool or has
been used previously to store export, database dump, or database backup
information.

The tape volume I am trying to add does not appear in the volume
listing. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thank you!
