SQL DB backup fails with following errors !!

2003-03-21 Thread prasanna S ghanekar
Hello All,

I've been backing up quite a few databases from a SQL Cluster using TDP for SQL V2 for
some time. for the past few days, I've started getting an error and the backup started
failing for one particular database on the SQL cluster. I tried to find out more
looking at the event logs but could not find anything on Microsoft for the SQL event
ID's. Any Help is greatly appreciated.

Event ID: 17055
Category: Kernel
Description:
BackupMedium::ReportIoError: write failure on backup device 'TDPSQL-0226-'.
Operating system error 1003(Cannot complete this function.)

Event ID: 17055
Category: Kernel
Description:
BackupVirtualDeviceFile::RequestDurableMedia: Flush failure on backup device
'TDPSQL-0226-'. Operating system error 995(The I/O operation has been aborted
because of either a thread exit or an application request.)

P.S. I'm not using a Tape media but a set of Hard drives for the initial data
transfer. It fails only on this database and other database backups using TDP for SQL
work just fine. Any thoughts???

Thanks in advance,

Prasanna Ghanekar

So far,
I've got NT cluster backup going and not the web client and TDP for SQL. I'd certainly
look into the log files and find out more.

WEB Client install fails on NT cluster server

2003-02-02 Thread prasanna S ghanekar
Folks,

Based on the Expert advice, I followed all instructions to configure and setup TSM
Backup client for NT cluster server. Then, I moved on to setup Web client in Cluster
environment. As the manual says, I used "DSMCUTIL" to install services and not the
setup wizard. Also, I was cautious in looking at the Group and Node ownership on the
cluster while installing these services.

Here is what happens,

DSMCUTIL installed services on both nodes but when you try to start those, I get
"incorrect parameter" and the services do not start.

Is there any workaround ? I did test the backups for physical nodes and cluster node
using scheduler service and it went fine.

Any help is greatly appreciated..

Share permissions lost while restoring data

2002-10-25 Thread prasanna S ghanekar
Hello All,
I'm running TSM BA Client 5.1.1 on WIndows NT 4.0 server. I was trying to do a restore
of a shared directory with sub-dir and files. I did choose Restore to original
location, data came back fine but share was not restored, only file permissions were
retained. This was performed using TSM B/A GUI client.

Also, when I tried to restore data from one server to some other server and when I
chose "Restore to original Location" it still went back to the original server.
So, I tried using "Virtual Node" option in dsm.opt file. It did the same thing again.
When I used "Restore to following Location" and specified local drive, data was
restored without the share being created.

Am I doing anything wrong ?? I guess I do.
Need your HELP to fix this as I'd like to migrate a server in the near future.

Thanks in Advance,

Re: 5.1.1 Windows 2000 scheduler won't start

2002-09-27 Thread prasanna S ghanekar

I think we had a thread open for the same issue last week. What you could probably do
is to add a BAT or CMD file at the root folder and schedule a task to verify the
status of the service and start it if needed.

Here is the Bat file I've created using resource kit tools and it works without any
issues and you don't have to start the service manually on each failing server.

Sample BAT File
You need netsvc.exe from Resource Kit.

Actual Code
@echo off
netsvc "Service Name" \\ /query
if errorlevel 0 netsvc "service name" \\ /start
you could also add another line to display a message;
if errorlevel 1 echo TSM Client Scheduler running
exit

Once you have this bat file copied on all the servers being backed up, schedule a task
on all the servers using "at" command
at 06:00 /every: M T W Th F S Su c:\verify.bat

This eliminates any need to logon and manually start the service.

Hope this helps,

TDP SQL V2 fails with Dr. Watson Error

2002-09-23 Thread prasanna S ghanekar

Hello everyone,

I keep on getting a Dr. Watson error on one of the SQL 7.0 SP3 servers as soon as I
launch TDPSQL GUI session. SQL server is installed on Windows Nt 4.0 SP6a. I do have
four more servers with same Hardware and software configuration and TDP runs without

Re: TSM Scheduler on WinNT and Win2K

2002-09-19 Thread prasanna S ghanekar

Hello,

Both Services are set to "Automatic" for startup. It happens invariably on most of the
Windows NT servers. After Reboot, if you check the event log, it says "Starting
Scheduler Service" but actually it's not running.

One more observation on Windows NT4.0 with SQL server:

Sometimes, TSM scheduler service starts at the reboot but the one for TDPSQL fails to
start and nothing is written in the event log.

Regards,

Prasanna Ghanekar

Accessing a NETAPP Filer

2002-09-09 Thread prasanna S ghanekar

Hello All,

I'm trying to access a network drive mapped to a NETAPP filer from TSM Backup Archive
client and I get "Access Denied" message.

B/A client is running on a windows 2000 machine. This mapped drive could be accessed
through windows explorer without any problem. The Netapp filer is running on NET APP
F200 machine.
So, accessing netowrk resource is not an issue but when I launch the Backup-Archive
client and try to open this mount point, it fails.

Any HELP is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Prasanna Ghanekar
