For non-authoritatively restores you do not have be in restore mode (safe mode) for Windows ADV Server 2000, just a reboot after restore is required. I have not looked into an authoritative restore. From what I understand, it is a way to boot a W2K system and restore the last system state. I didn't have to use any extra parameters.
