Re: Exchange mailbox restores
Jim, Along with your the other responses, take a look at Appendix B of the User's Guide. It has a section titled: Individual Mailbox Restore. Keep in mind that unless you want to restore the entire Information Store (Exchange 5.5) or the entire database (Exchange 2000), it requires an alternate server restore. Jim - Have your customer refer to the TDP manual. Appendix B talks about individual mailbox restorals.

Re: Exchange mailbox restores
Jim, In a meeting about a year ago we were told that you could do this, if Microsoft would create an API. You may want to check in that direction. At that time there was no API, but things may have changed. Sorry I don't have a lot of help. Re: Exchange mailbox restores
The steps are as follows, 1. Install the TSM exchange agent software onto a different/new exchange server. 2. Configure the DSM.OPT file to be the sever that you need to restore. Eg(the name of the server that has the mail box) 3. Restore the exchange private store to the new exchange server, using the GUI. 4. Run the constancy checker (can take a while) 5. open the individual mail box that you need and make a PST file. 6. Copy the file to a location that the user can access. 7. Configure the exchange client to open the new PST file. I think that all, hope it helps ant -Original Message- From: Jim Kirkman [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, 26 June 2001 6:31 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject:Exchange mailbox restores Hello, From the uninitiated, what is the procedure for restoring an individual mailbox from a backup made with the TDP client? Exchange Mailbox restores
We recently moved to exchange and have implemented the TDP for Exchange. It works fine but managment is concerened of the fact that we cannot do individual mailbox restores like we were able to do in Notes. I am aware that there is no Microsoft API that allows this (or am I wrong). I've read about some of you that are using products that allow mailbox restores under Exchange but most of what I have read has been negative. i.e.- Its slow, It uses a non MS method, Its unreliable, all of the above, etc,etc My questions are: Is there anything new available from Tivoli or another vendor that will allow exchange mailbox restores? What are your opinions of these products? Anybody using Legato with this capability? What do you think of it? I would really appreciate any input from anyone Thanks Jack
Re: Exchange Mailbox restores
You are correct that there is no functionality in Exchange to do this. Microsoft's solution for individual mailbox restores is to restore the entire database to a separate machine and export the mailbox. I believe that Arcserve claims to have the ability to do this "bricks level" backup and restore but essentially it does the same thing - it exports every mailbox to a .pst and backs up the individual .pst files - this is extremely time consuming - prohibitively so for more than a few mailboxes. I have not heard of any other way to do it.
