Mel,

In case it needs to run an AUDIT LIBRARY, would it be with
CHELKLABEL=YES or CHECKLABEL=BARCODE?
Because, CHECKLABEL=YES may take hours to complete the audit as it
mounts and checks the label of each volume...

Actually if all that was added was extra slots in the second frame, all
that needs to be run is an audit library command. This will force
your library to reaudit your current inventory including the new empty
slots. If new drives were added as well, just define the new paths and
drives to the existing library. No need to delete paths/drives/library
for this. I've done it several times when we've upgraded our scalar 10k
with new cabinets.

Thanks for the info. I just heard back from IBM support and because
our
second frame to the library was added after our original install, TSM
does not see it. We need to take an outage and delete/define all
paths,
library, drives and check all tapes back in. A little bit ugly.

Not ugly at all, and no outage is required if you do this at night,
since tape drives are usually quiet during that time anyway.

Write a batch file that does the following:

delete path (all tape drives)
delete path (for library)
delete drive (all tape drives)
delete library (library)
define library
define path (for library)
define drive (all tape drives)
define path (all tape drives)
checkin libv (library) search=yes status=scratch checkl=barcode
checkin libv (library) search=yes status=private checkl=barcode

Call the batch file library_redo. Run the file as a macro.

This should all run within a minute or two. Do it while all tape drives
are quiet.

I've never sent to the listserv before, so we'll so how this goes. In

can see that we have 399 slots available in the tape library. However,
when running the checkin command on our weekly offsite tape returns, I
receive the following.

23:49:57 ANR8314E Library 7OF9 is full.

ANR0985I Process 4785 for CHECKIN LIBVOLUME running in the BACKGROUND

Re: ANR8314E Library is Full Error

2007-12-05 Thread Jim Young
Hi,

One of the problems we have had in the past with a 3584 hogging slots not
known to TSM is if the VIRTUAL IO is enabled. Check this from the web based
library login under LIBRARY VIRTUAL IO .

The other problem you will have after that is identifying the volumes in the
library not assigned to TSM. This you can get from CARTRIDGES DATA
CATRIDGES. then select (unnassigned/shared) from the drop down 'select a
logical library' option. that is if you have the same web based GUI we
have.

Out of interest what number do you get back from TSM if you run this SQL.

select count(*) as Vols in Lib from libvolumes

and also try

q vol access=unavailable f=d

If that one brings anything back then you definately need to audit your
library.

Cheers

Jim (Breaking TSM happily)

That is ugly. We didn't have to do that when we expanded our 3494. Yes, we
had to redefine devices/paths, but that was because of the SAN and the way
it found the devices and obviously the change in device types, but not the
library size/slot count.

Glad to hear you resolved it.

Re: Dell 130T library is full

2002-06-13 Thread Stuart Pitt

Hi,

Sounds like this library is a badged quantum ATL P1000. We have 4 of those
here and have had similar problems. This library doesn't allocate a slot for
cleaning tapes. The only way round this problem is to checkout all volumes
the TSM Server knows about. Remove the volumes that are in the library,
including the cleaning tape. Run an audit library, and then place all the
volumes removed back in the library. This should fix the problem, (at least
it did here). We logged a fault with Tivoli, and all they suggested was to
run an audit library. Before you do the above, check your devcnfg.out file
and make sure this matches what is in the library.

Cheers

Dell 130T library is full

2002-06-12 Thread TSM Admin

We use a Dell 130T library with 2 DLT7000 drives and 30 slots. TSM only
appears to see 29 of the 30 slots. When we try to checkin another tape, we
get an error stating that the library is full. We can only see 29 tapes when
we have autoclean disables on the library. With it enabled, we can only see
28 slots. Slot 7 is used for a cleaning tape. Has anyone else encountered
this type of problem? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

A warm beer says that the empty slot is one reserved for a cleaner tape.
Check your hardware manual to see if there's a way to load a cleaner
cartridge through the front panel's I/O station. If there is, and you remove
the cleaner from its present slot and load it by using the library itself,
it'll go in that 30th slot.

Things always go better after a few beers :) (As it turns out I don't
really have an answer for you) BUT..

I recall, the IBM 3494 has reserved slots for lost misplaced tapes - the

Customer Engineer Tapes etc ..

It never worried me much as the 3494 we had, had 2700 + slots... but on a
smaller Library I can see your getting anxious.

Could the above apply to the DELL maybe?

Library is FULL?

2001-07-20 Thread Patrick Sheehan

Hello all fellow TSM'rs

I'm trying as I may to change a vol in a tape library. I succesfully
CHECKOUT a empty scratch volume and then try to CHECKIN a previous vol for
a restore I'm trying to do. When I check tha ACTLOG it tells me the library
is full. I've tried running an AUDIT and it shows only 9 or a possible 10
volumes. I can't seems to get past this. What am I doing wrong? I even
tried another CHECKOUT using the SWAP option and again it successfully
removes a volume but still thinks the library is full

Have you tried looking at the devconfig.out file to see if it shows the
tapes being removed. I have had a problem where it had empty slots but it
would not take a tape. Some of the tapes ended up showing in two different
slots. Once I made all the changes things worked like it should have.
