Re: Bulk slots and checkout of Tapes
Hello All We have played around with bulk checkout in our library. We only have ten recovery slots in our test library, single frame. What we did was have our local IBM CE perform a teach to convert 20 internal slots to IO recovery slots. This allows us to skip a day or two to remove any tapes from the previous night. I know this defeats the purpose of offsite recovery. But since this is for test it works for now. Re: Bulk slots and checkout of Tapes
All, There is a new command by TSM under 3.7.3.5 called "untilee=full". This was recently created for Marriott a couple of months ago by Tivoli. It should allow you to check out tapes into the bulk I/O. Upon a full door it will stop processing. You will then have to re-execute the script. This should get you out of the water. You can put it into a loop script or something until you get all tapes out of the silos. The state remain 'mountable' if it didn't get the chance to reach the i/o station, those already in i/o station will have the state of 'courier' >From: "Selva, Perpetua" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Reply-To: "ADSM: Dist Stor Manager" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >Subject: Re: Bulk slots and checkout of Tapes >Date: Thu, 28 Sep 2000 11:53:09 -0400 > >What happens if someone does not remove them on a daily basis, does these >tapes wait till the next day to be checked out or it thinks they are >checked >out.. Since we have to make sure tapes are sent to offsite each day then it would behoove us to make sure they do get removed. What good is offsite storage if you don't use it? Otherwise I guess a good swift kick in the %$*# would get it done.
Re: Bulk slots and checkout of Tapes
What happens if someone does not remove them on a daily basis, does these tapes wait till the next day to be checked out or it thinks they are checked out.. This is where the problem arises... -Original Message- From: Gill, Geoffrey L. Re: Bulk slots and checkout of Tapes
I'm glad to see someone else raise this issue. I tried to open a PMR at one time and got nowhere. It's an outrage how much EXTRA money we pay for DRM, and it doesn't support bulk checkout. Maybe now that there is a third party (AUTOVAULT) providing some competition for DRM, Tivoli will have an incentive to do better... Re: Bulk slots and checkout of Tapes
I have ADSM 3.1.2.55 on AIX 4.3.3 with a 3494 pibrary and 4 3590E-1A drives. I have not had any problem as far as I can tell. I use DRM to issue the checkout of all offsite tapes and it sends 10 out the door at a time till it's finished. I haven't had any hangups. Re: Bulk slots and checkout of Tapes
We use the IO station, not the bulk slots, and we have an external (to ADSM) script which does the checkouts - which runs until all the tapes are checked out or a timeout value is exceeded (and then an error is logged).
