Thanks. Looks like it's a combination of log file permissions and invalid sample RMAN script. Waiting for my DBA to return, but thanks to all who responded. Looks like I'm back on track. That seemed odd so I changed the permissions on the log to 666, and then RMAN backups started working. (Lucky shot in the dark). Now getting same error on recovery. Despite what the content of the error message says, my problems seem to be related to file ownership and / or permissions on the client. However, I can find nothing in the installation guide that helps, nor are there any recent hits in IBMLINK.Any suggestions?? Thanks.
