ANR8355E-I/O error has brought the tape from Read Write to Unavailable

2007-06-13 Thread zareyna salim
Hi all,

I encountered an error on the tape while doing a TDP for Exchange backup.

The error was ANR 8355E I/O error reading label for volume A000122.

After the unsuccessful backup finished, some of the tapes that were mount
during the backup has changed from readwrite to unavailable.

I have update all the unavailable tape to read write status and run the back
up but still I encountered the ANR8355E error and the tapes again change the
status to unavailable.

This issue happened last 3 days, when I received an intermittent
unsuccessful backup of TDP for Exchange due to error ANS1315E (RC15)
Unexpected Retry request. It has brought me to check the volume for the
storage pool and found that some of tapes were in unavailable and read
only status. After I updated the status and ran again the backup the above
issue occurred.

Version of :

TSM 5.2.9 on AIX version 5.2

Storage Agent 5.2.9

TSM for Mail5.2.1.0

TSM API 5.2.5

Tape library IBM ULT3580-TD2 SCSI Sequential device with driver version

The issue above is only happen on one client. Others client backup work
successfully.

Appreciate your help.

Experienced causes of that message are in http://people.bu.edu/rbs/
ADSM.QuickFacts .
You don't say whether you labeled the tapes, via 'LABEl LIBVolume' or
the dsmlabel command or per the AUTOLabel library definition. That's
the most common missing ingredient. A shared library where the non-
TSM sharer has overwritten the TSM tape is worse.

Doing a HELP 8355 from the TSM admin command line gives a suggestion that the
PATH statements do not correctly point to the right
drive(s). Possibly the DEVICE= specified in the PATH isn't the correct DRIVE of
the ELEMENT= you specified. Most libraries and TSM
today support the ELEMENT=AUTODETECT for the DEFINE DRIVE command. Then the
element is determined whtn the DEF PATH is issued.

Hi there,

Previously the backup ran successfully until we change the active server to
passive server on 25 May. Since then we receive intermittent backup
unsuccessful due to ANS1315E RC15 Unexpected Retry request and had made the
tape status change to unavailable. The paths were define correctly as there
was no problem with the backup only after 25 May.

Thanks,

Re: IBM3584 Tape Drives won't write to Media

2004-03-24 Thread Josh-Daniel Davis
Rajesh,

3A/00 means media not present.

Is this a new library? Has it ever worked? If not, there may be a
drive cabling or definition problem such that the tape is being loaded
into one drive, but TSM is trying to read from a different drive

Is the tape you're trying label in the slot that TSM thinks it is?
The library may maintain it's own inventory which can be refreshed from
tapeutil in the IBMTape package (aka Atape for Windows).

Just ideas.

I have an IBM3584 Library that we have divided into 4 Logical
Libraries and assigned them to 4 TSM Servers.

3 are AIX Servers and the 4th is a Windows 2000 Server. This is new

The Drives in the 4th TSM Server are attached to the Windows Server
 thru' the SAN Fabric.

For the Windows TSM Server the Library is controlled by the TSM Device
Driver and the Tape Drives are controlled by Windows Drivers. All the
drives are defined and can be seen by TSM. But when I try to label and
checkin Tapes it just sits on the process. After a while it gives an
I/O error on the drive and the process fails.

Tape will not write

2003-01-28 Thread Jacque Mergens
I have been having picker problems with my library (IBM 3581) and have had to replace
it. The old library set the current copy group tapes within the library to private
and access to offsite. I have reversed these settings and the system now loads the
tape yet doesn't actually write any information to the tape.

When performing a backup stg disk offsite the tape loads but doesn't write.

After an hour it performs an idle timeout on the process and unloads the tape.

Can anyone tell me why this is?

My system is an AIX 5.1 64bit system using TSM 4.2.2.
