I recommended it because it returns three hits (instances of a single
problem), such as PK64790.

What is the TSM server code level?

We're running server version 5.4.2.0 on AIX. In our case I think the -99
error comes at the end of schedules, and there is a fix available.
(IIRC) I plan on rolling the fix in asap, but we want to be ready to
update all servers in a short timeframe.

Prompted for Password every time/Scheduler exited with a result code of 12.

2004-04-23 Thread Mayo, Bill
I had a working, clustered TDP Exchange scheduler. Due to an issue, I
had to reset the password on the node. Since doing that, I have been
unable to get the service to run again. The service will start briefly
and then stop. The Event Log shows first a warning ID 4098 (Error
initializing TSM api, unable to verify Registry Password), and ends with
an error ID of 4099 (Scheduler exited with a result code of 12). I
believe a symptom of the same problem is exhibited when I run the client
manually. When I do this, I am prompted for the password every time.

I have used the UPDATEPW command to reset the password in the registry.
I have even deleted the registry key beforehand so that I can see that
it is actually being created/updated (it appears to be working as
expected). Doing a QUERY seems to work ok as well.

I have also deleted the service and recreated it. I have been careful
to make sure the nodename, clusternode, and clustername parameters are
updated correctly.

Am I missing something obvious here? Any assistance gratefully
accepted. Thanks!

Re: Prompted for Password every time/Scheduler exited with a result code of 12.

2004-04-23 Thread Mayo, Bill
I am fairly confident at this point that the problem is that the
password is not being properly updated in the registry, but I am at a
loss as to how to correct it. The reboot did not help. I will admit to
not completely understanding what registry it is trying to update. I
was looking at the local registry when I mentioned observing it for
changes, but I am now thinking that it is really using the cluster
registry.

At any rate, I have used the query command to update the password, but
it just won't stick. I feel like I must be doing something wrong, but I
don't know what.

Re: Server rejected session; result code: 52

2002-11-20 Thread Robert L. Rippy
Error 52 isn't a password prob. It looks like TSM server didn't respond
fast enough to the client and the session was rejected. Try increasing your
timeout limit. Could be a lot of stuff hitting the server at that
time...aka backups. and the TSM Server is overloaded.

Thanks,
Robert Rippy.

Re: Server rejected session; result code: 52

2002-11-20 Thread Manuel Schweiger
Shekhar,

Normaly that should not happen when you use passwordaccess generate.
Try to reset the client password in the admin webinterface. If this still
does not work delete the tsm.pwd file (should be locate in /tsg/tsm/security
directory as you set it up).
Then the client should ask you to reenter the password in any case.
Happens to me from time to time on novell clients.

result code ? - second try

2002-05-02 Thread Stumpf, Joachim

Hi together,

i asked this question a few days ago, but didnt get any responses...so I try it again
;-)

since we have upgraded our TSM server from 4.1.3 to 4.1.5 on OS/390 2.10 we get result
codes ? from the clients in some cases (clients are 4.1, 4.2 and 5.0). But i dont
know why this happens?
Anybody know where this code come from and why it did not have a known number?

thanks in advance...

Re: result code ? - second try

2002-05-02 Thread Bill Boyer

If you are referring to the STATUS of the Q EV output, then this means that
the server contacted the client, the backup started, but never completed.
This could be due to a network problem, the client server going down, or
it's still running. Somewhere in the 4.1 maintenance Tivoli added this '?'
status for events that have started, but haven't received any completion
response from the client node. Further APARS I saw stated that actual
descriptions were to be added instead of the generic '?'.

Check the activity log for around the time the schedule started for that
node to see if you have any errors. Like 'connection with client severed',
or idle timeouts... Also, the status of '?' is NOT listed in a QUERY EVENT
output with EX=YES.

Re: cuSignOnResp: Server rejected session; result code: 53

2001-07-09 Thread Dirk Billerbeck

Hello Dwight,

AFAIK and have observed within the last months this is the normal behaviour
of the new multithreaded TSM client (= v3.7.2.x). The default value for
the corresponding dsm.opt parameter RESOURCEUtilization is 2. So if you
haven't set a different value, everytime the client contacts the server he
opens two sessions: One for the control information, the other for the
data.

You can verify this by querying the client sessions on the server during a
scheduled or manual backup. Depending on the number and the size of the
changed files on the TSM client one session should have a relative small
number of bytes received or sent and won't change much after the backup
process itself has been initiated. The other session will transfer the data
from the client to the server and will the number of bytes received should
equal the size of the backed up files. This session will be closed before
the control session (the data transfer is already over but the client still
has to sent its results to the server).

So, if you want just one session for both tasks specify RESOURCEUtilization
1 in the dsm.opt. And if you want five data sessions you would have to
specify RESOURCEUtilization 6 in the client's option file.

And regarding your question about the error message:

Because every new client (v3.7 or 4.x) now uses two sessions maybe you
have to increase the maxsessions parameter in your dsmserv.opt so the
maximum number of scheduled sessions is also increased? And perhaps it is
just happening what the error log says: The server rejects the session
because there are no more sessions allowed to be opened?

Just my 2 cents. Please correct me when I'm wrong.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen,
Met vriendelijke groeten,
With best regards,
Bien amicalement,

CU/2,

Even if root simply initiates a dsmc session and then does anything to
contact the server (such as a q sched) it opens a session that
terminates,
writes the record to the dsmerror.log and then performs the desired action
and gives the proper info back to the dsmc session
BUT each action initiates at least two sessions.

Is a little bit of a pain because after only being up for 45 days, this
specific tsm server is on client session 985,043
The accounting log is rather large.

I know... 4.1 or 4.2, I'll head there quick enough but this seems to have
started out of the blue a couple months ago and I haven't figured it out
yet...

any thoughts ?

Can't remember this one being mentioned and I didn't find anything on a
search of adsm.org so I though I'd toss this to the group...

anyone seen this in their client dsmerror.log ?

AIX 4.3.3 server running TSM 3.7.2 and the clients seem to mainly be sun
solaris 6 with tsm 3.7.2.0 client code

hugh amounts of zero activity sessions from client to server (they have
nothing to do with the scheduler)
