Re: [AFMUG] OT - autotune

2018-10-04 Thread Darren Shea
Yeah, as I get older (I'm three months younger than Sgt. Pepper's), my
tolerance for bad music has waned, and as an amateur
musician/songwriter/singer, I generally find auto-tuned vocals to be obvious
and grating. "If you can't reliably hit the note in the studio, then change
the melody to one you can sing!"

Sometimes, used subtly and in moderation, or for a deliberate doubling
effect to the instumental melody I can tolerate it (I'm thinking "Some
Nights" by fun, for instance).

One of my favorite album stickers ever is from Allison Moorer's 2002
release, Miss Fortune, which read "Absolutely no vocal tuning or
pitch-correction was used in the making of this record." Great album, too!

Yeap. Sometimes MoviePass works, sometimes it doesn’t. Down to 2 cents per

So, my investments remaining value is 1/7500 or .008 cents. Been fun seeing
how far down it can go.

Yes, I hears this 4th remake of that story is pretty good. It is about the

Not sure if this will help or hurt. At least in the WiFi router industry,
which markets primarily based on WiFi speed.

Nobody says “802.11ac” or “802.11ax”, at least not to consumers. It has always
been Wireless-B, Wireless-G, Wireless-N, and Wireless-AC. OK, maybe it’s a
confusing to consumers that once you get to Z, you start with AA, AB, etc.

Also the manufacturers have started appending a capacity number, like N600 or
AC1750. That is a little deceptive if someone really believes that an AC1750
router gives them 1.75 Gbps WiFi speed. First because it’s an over-the-air
speed and you have to cut all WiFi speed claims approximately in half. Second
because that’s the combined throughput of 2 or 3 radios in different bands or
sub-bands, and achieving that capacity means distributing your devices over the
various channels. No device is going to see that number.

But still, consumers are used to comparing N600 to AC1750 to AC5300. I see
that Netgear has an AD7200 802.11ac/ad router, that’s a little confusing. I
wonder where 802.11ad fits in the WiFi number plan? I assume we’ll start
seeing AX/AD routers. Maybe they don’t consider AD to be WiFi. Do they still
use the term WiGig?

[AFMUG] OT - movie review

2018-10-04 Thread Ken Hohhof

Roeper gave A Star Is Born (the latest version) 4 stars and couldn't say
enough good things about it.

Re: [AFMUG] 10Gbps SPF+ Modules

2018-10-04 Thread Stefan Englhardt
I prefer to put in modules of the router vendor to keep them from denying
support. So MT-Modules into MT and UBNT Modules into UBNT.

Ask your customers if they use 802.11ac. They simple dont know. Give them
simple numbers is a good idea.And W6 is higher/better than 5G ;-)
