Re: [AFMUG] RPSMA or SMA for 450i AP?

2021-03-24 Thread Mathew Howard
Yeah, I know, but my point was that in this case, you're going to have to
turn a TPA horn into a horn with RPSMA connectors to use it, so you aren't
introducing loss and hassle by going with the N connector horn - it's
arguably less hassle, since there aren't as many parts to deal with. There
are still some other advantages to going with the TPA horn, as has been
pointed out.

If we were talking about ePMP (or anything else that TP adapters are
available for), then I agree, there's no question that TPA is a much better
way to go.

Re: [AFMUG] RPSMA or SMA for 450i AP?

2021-03-23 Thread Mike Hammett
I'd go that route, though. Not because I advocated for a few years for it with
Tasos and JT, but because you'd have the TPA, you can easily change radios in
the future.

I'm pretty sure they don't make twist port adapter for the 450i. Using a TP to
SMA adapter, with SMA to N pigtails seems like more loss and hassle... although
it might be cheaper.

Cool. Sometimes, even with the internet, it can get lonely figuring things
out by yourself. It's nice to hear what others are doing out there in the
real world.

Re: [AFMUG] RPSMA or SMA for 450i AP?

2021-03-23 Thread Mathew Howard
I don't see any problem with doing what you were planning on.

The other option I was talking about would be to go with the RF Elements
Carrier Class horns (which are basically the same thing, they just have N
connectors instead of the twist port). But it looks like using the TP horn
with the SMA adapter (which essentially just gives you a horn withRP-SMA
ports) is $40-50 a piece cheaper, so I'd probably just go with that. The
only downside I see is that it's an extra part to deal with, but it
probably isn't really any different as far as loss goes.

I am wanting to convert from 90 degree sectors to RF element asym 60
degree horns on my AP and add a second AP to increase coverage and
throughput and am not sure what type of SMA to N connector I need. RP-SMA
to N or SMA to N? What's the Diff?

Female connectors and The RF element TPA-SMA adapter is RP-SMA. So there ya
have it. So one would need an N-Male to RP-SMA pigtail.
