That's exactly it. This isn't a product aimed towards the guys that
advertise streaming, nor is it aimed towards a user base that wants to
do solely that. It's a product designed for the customer with no other
good options.

With the data caps on cellular 4G and the all around piss-poor
performance of satellite, some customers only have 900MHz Canopy as
another viable option aside from dialup. In our area it's going to be
big for the company that purchased our WISP - especially since the
group they are a part of who owns their 700MHz spectrum is flirting
with selling it to ATT.

I know many of us can’t make the same statements about noise floor
or customer expectations, but some people consistently say they
want such a product. And who knows, maybe there’s some magic,
too? Like maybe more robustness to multipath, which seems to
bother 900 FSK quite a bit.

2015-02-04 Thread Peter Kranz
It’s definitely possible to get close to or over 100 Mbps in a PMP scenario is
a 20Mhz channel on the RM5AC product.. I previously posted some real-world
results for this platform to the forum. To summarize: RM5AC deployed on a
crappy channel, running Iperf to a variety of subscribers with various signal
levels while the AP was carrying production traffic… note subscriber .115’s
results:

Last IP octet / download speed / upload speed:

.193 67.4 Mbps down / 76.9 Mbps up

.100 47.4 Mbps down / 67.5 Mbps up

.104 35.7 Mbps down / 27.4 Mbps up

.115 90.0 Mbps down / 109 Mbps up

.178 53.6 Mbps down / 59.2 Mbps up

.120 50.7 Mbps down / 73 Mbps up

.121 60.1 Mbps down / 70.9 Mbps up

.169 56.1 Mbps down / 64.1 Mbps up

.111 44.6 Mbps down / 29.7 Mbps up

.103 46.9 Mbps down / 52.9 Mbps up

That said, I've heard numbers ~65+ TCP throughput on 10MHz wide channels

They can do more than 100Mb with a 20mhz channel in PtP mode, so I think
100Mb+ real world is believable, especially with wider channels.

Well, if you believe the 10 bits/Hz story, then it should be able to do
100 Mbps in 10 MHz. Right?

[AFMUG] PacketFlux Traning Date/Time Change

2015-02-04 Thread Forrest Christian (List Account)
After talking with numerous people who would like to do the training on
Thursday instead of Friday, and noting that the agenda for Thursday ends at
3pm, we've decided to move the PacketFlux training to Thursday starting at
3:30ish. *ish* meaning we'll start about a half hour or so after the end
of the last session on Thursday. This will be downstairs in the back room.

This training will cover a lot of the less obvious and mostly undocumented
parts of the sitemonitor system. Familiarity with the system or a similar
system will be very helpful.

If you're interested in attending, I'd appreciate if you'd stop by the
PacketFlux booth or send me an email off of list. I'm trying to get a
rough count of who is attending for planning purposes.

That's exactly it. This isn't a product aimed towards the guys that advertise
streaming, nor is it aimed towards a user base that wants to do solely that.
It's a product designed for the customer with no other good options.

With the data caps on cellular 4G and the all around piss-poor performance of
satellite, some customers only have 900MHz Canopy as another viable option
aside from dialup. In our area it's going to be big for the company that
purchased our WISP - especially since the group they are a part of who owns
their 700MHz spectrum is flirting with selling it to ATT.

wider channels, higher modulation, or magic.

I know many of us can’t make the same statements about noise floor or customer
expectations, but some people consistently say they want such a product. And
who knows, maybe there’s some magic, too? Like maybe more robustness to
multipath, which seems to bother 900 FSK quite a bit.

In fairness, some WISPs have consistently said they are deep in trees and 900

wider channels, higher modulation, or magic.

I know many of us can’t make the same statements about noise floor or customer
expectations, but some people consistently say they want such a product. And
who knows, maybe there’s some magic, too? Like maybe more robustness to
multipath, which seems to bother 900 FSK quite a bit.

This is a very good question. There are a couple of reasons for this.
The first, and most important, reason is that the satisfaction from
customers is not as high as I would like. In my live and in person
trainings, those who have returned satisfaction surveys show about 98%
satisfaction with the events (facility + instructor + materials). For
the online, when I did them before for more than just the one day
courses, the satisfaction with materials + instructor remains high, but
the online format is only rated at around 80% satisfaction. For the one
day classes, it is around 88%. For me, that is WAY to low. There are 3
things that people dislike about the online classes (primarily):

1. Labs - While they labs are similar to the live classes, people do not
seem to get as much out of the courses, if they do not have the physical
gear in front of them.

2. Interruptions - These have little to do with me, but when people are
in the office, they get interrupted.

3. Webinar Software - It is simply a fact, that ALL online meeting
places have some drawbacks. Some are better in some areas than others
and finding one that fills ALL needs is nearly impossible.

For myself, it is MUCH more difficult to control and manage the
classroom with online trainings. I can deal with one and maybe two day
events, but I doubt I will ever offer another 5 day training online. It
is too stressful for me to do, especially knowing that people will not
be as happy with my service as I like.

Got a set of Greenlee 683. Kinda beefy but we are running some larger

Re: [AFMUG] 900 MHz 450....

2015-02-04 Thread Rory McCann
That's exactly it. This isn't a product aimed towards the guys that
advertise streaming, nor is it aimed towards a user base that wants to
do solely that. It's a product designed for the customer with no other
good options.

With the data caps on cellular 4G and the all around piss-poor
performance of satellite, some customers only have 900MHz Canopy as
another viable option aside from dialup. In our area it's going to be
big for the company that purchased our WISP - especially since the group
they are a part of who owns their 700MHz spectrum is flirting with
selling it to ATT.
