That's their office. Their "Chicago" facility is in one of these buildings:

I have figured out which one, I just forget at the moment.

Their Indianapolis datacenter is just space in someone else's (LightBound).

So, back on the original topic that I started here. I got an hour or so
today to play with this switch. Cisco clone CLI and the web UI is very
functional. Gotta say I'm really surprised that I don't hate it. The
VLAN config is a little confusing, but I just need some more time with it.

The only contradicting documentation that I've found so far is the DC
inputs. Is it +48 or -48? The chassis doesn't appear to be bonded to
ether polarity. Floating would be nice. Does anyone know for sure? We're
going to start with the AC input and move to DC later as we add more
switches.

Yes, you can do 10MHz channels, and speeds will improve. The weak signals
are hurting your overall bandwidth by the percentage of AirMax capacity
shown on the AP. (ie. if it is 80% Airmax then your AP can do 80% of it's
total capability for that channel width.

yay. ton o ubnt questions...

howdy ya'll. hope you're staying warm today. it's friggin 24 here in the
great state of Alabama.
I spent some time at the lake before lunch wishing it were 94 so i could do
some seadooing
oh well. That being said, guess I'm doing some INSIDE work. :)

I've been wondering about these questions for a while. For the most part we've
been leaving well enough alone.
We purchased a network over two years ago and have just been adding customers
to it. Lately we've been trying
to sell higher packages and they're selling - - but i'm concerned we are
running into bottle necks.

Here are the key points. This is our businest site on this network. There is
one omni at 2.4 ghz and two sectors at
2.4 ghz. Everything is in 5 ghz channels. I'd like to go to 10 mhz channels.
What is your experience as an operator
for 10 mhz channels with this amount of equipment? Each sector has RF armor
behind it.

I am also concerned with the lack of information appearing on the sector list.
I believe one of the protocols is disabled on most of the radios - any reason I
shouldn't go in and turn all of that protocol stuff back on? I believe it is
the CDP protocol. Any reason we shouldn't run that? I assume the former owner
turned that off cause it was bits he didn't want going back and forth in his 5
mhz channels. ;) Um, i turned that back on for one customer but the device
info still did not populate under
the station list - so - i guess i need help with that too.

The Omni:
17 clients
2452 - 5 mhz channels
2449.5 - 2454.5 MHz

(only a handful are upgraded to 5.6.3, thats why tx is missing on some)

8 clients
2464 - 5 mhz channels
2461.5 - 2466.5 MHz

8 clients
2422 - 5 mhz channels
2419.5 - 2424.5 MHz

whatcha think? Can i do 10 mhz channels?
How much are these weakish signals hurting the overall bandwidth?
What general advice can you give us?

Thanks ya'll!

Happy Monday!

The very low cost plan I am on appears to have sharepoint included at some
capacity.

I don’t use it though.

I had sharepoint running for a while on my own Exchange server a few years ago.

It ran fine, but I had to run firewalls specific to it to make sure I wasn’t
hacked.

I don’t know if I’m any better hacking wise with the MS hosted solution, but
probably.
At least I don’t have to worry about all that crap anymore.

Re: [AFMUG] Metered Plans / Full Speed To Customer?

2016-01-18 Thread Christopher Gray
By fair queue, I meant equal sharing of bandwidth per user / IP... Likely
with MikroTik PCQ.

Even though speeds would not be slower, the two major customer experiences
I expect are:
1. Wow, the Internet is extra fast during these off-hours, I'm really happy!
2. Wow, the Internet is slow during these busy hours, everything is the
worst!

I'd like to do something the user really appreciates, while minimizing
experience #2..

I suppose offering a traditional service next to a metered service can
allow the disappointed users to switch back to a traditional plan.

Just got his reply from Bracke:
Dear Chuck,

Mr. Pasternack sold Pasternack Enterprises over a decade ago.

Went into early retirement. He started missing the business as his children
have grown.

He then started up Bracke Manufacturing. Coincidentally I worked for him at
Pasternack Enterprises many years ago.

He found me and brought me aboard this fine new establishment!

Are there any parts or cable assemblies you may be interesting in purchasing
from us? You will find our prices are 20-30% lower than P.E.’s.

And, the quality of our parts is top notch!

If you would like to speak to Mr. Pasternack personally, he will be in the
office this Wednesday.

We hope to hear from you soon and do look forward to introducing ourselves and
our company to you.

2016-01-18 Thread Sterling Jacobson
I honestly don't care about the government reading my crap.
If they want that kind of boredom, more power to them.

My biggest concern is a failure in the cloud, or cloud hosted VM's.

I recently made the mistake of letting Windows Update install a Suse network
driver over my KVM based VM image.

That killed one of my VM's and it took me a while to figure out how to recover
from that.

But most VM host companies do image and delta backups that make it point and
click restore.

I can span the images across the country and bring up anywhere they have
locations.

And I can download VM images directly from the site and they pull up in my Win
10 HyperV host with a simple conversion.

Quite remarkable.

I wonder that anyone uses bare metal anything now days.

I worked at a place that used Merak Icewarp. I think they have a linux

that plugin is installed you can't tell the difference on your desktop

Are you running separate AD server(s)? secondary exchange servers? Separate
physical servers (or VMs on separate servers) ?

Looking at resource issues vs. overall benefit plus Total Cost of Ownership,
including licenses and support costs, etc.

We have a simple SBS on a VM that uses 20GB of RAM. With SBS gone away, its
back to the old days, with separate "boxes" for everything. Sigh.

Something like Zentyal might be worth considering if it works well in the real
world.

For putting a dish on a utility pole or something like that, a bucket

Re: [AFMUG] Bucket truck or vans

2016-01-18 Thread Mathew Howard
The issue run into trying to use our bucket truck, is that you just can't
get close enough to where you need to mount the antenna on most houses -
unless you drive across their lawn, which most people don't want you
doing... and even that isn't possible in a lot of cases. It usually does
work very well on commercial building though... and it's definitely the way
to go for working on poles. I think ours is only a 28' boom though, it
would definitely make it a lot easier to reach things with another 10' or
so.

You can technically buy stuff there but during the checkout process it tells

Reminds me of D&B... when you have any kind of a "negative" mark on your
business credit, and you call them as ask what it is, they won't tell
you. "How am I supposed to fix the issue if you won't tell me what it
is?" "I don't know what to tell you, sir."

Since that day (almost 10 years ago), I no longer base anything I do on
a D&B report from anyone.

Ok, I think this might be their problem.

They are back in office tomorrow so I’ll see if I can get their config instead

I’ll do a BGP print from my mikrotik as well tomorrow to make sure.

Dennis from LinkTechs is doing my config, so I’m sure it will be configured
correctly once we get past stage one, lol!

32 bit BGP AS works fine between Mikrotik and Brocade MLXe. They have a config

I posted their config in this mikrotik post here:

I appreciate your help.

It’s got to be something simple on their end or my end.

I have nearly the same config set up on another 1072 to another peer and it
enteres the accept state with the same ASN.
So I’m still leaning towards it being their Brocade.

Enable BGP logging in Mikrotik, this should give you better detail. Make sure
the info you get back in the log is correct (that they have your AS set right),

Do you actually use this as an online store? Or just a catalog?

So Google Merchant Center said that my stuff was all suspended due to policy
violations.
I get on the phone and wait and wait and then get the guy the thick accent tell
me that they do not allow radar jammers to be listed. I told him I did not
sell radar jammers, I sell surge suppressors and tower mounts. Back and forth,
escalating to a woman that has less of an accent, she tells me that it is in
violation of their policy. I ask for a copy, nope, it is a secret she cannot
tell me. OK, so I am breaking a Google law but that law is secret and you
cannot tell me how I am breaking it. Yep. OK suggestions please. She
suggested that I explain on the front page of the web site what it is we do. I
told her we make and sell crap. She said that is not clear and that we need to
explain that.

OK, so I now explain that. Arrgh.

www.mccowntech.com A bit of snark there. Not sure how far to push the snark,
do not want the big G to get pissed off at me...
