Re: [AFMUG] campground wifi

2017-08-14 Thread Josh Reynolds
Limit your datarates to 12Mb and above will shrink you cell size, but will
keep your data rates sane. There's a lot of cool tweaks in UniFi these
days. AirTime Fairness can help a lot as well.

Meshv3 is on the horizon as an in-place upgrade to the existing hardware.
Looks good so far.

We max out at 10Mbps. In testing the Unifi mesh, we consistently saw 18Mbps
with 100 devices on 3 radios.

If you ever have plans to do DWDM or splice long haul fiber you absolutely
need core alignment. V-groove fusion splicers are for last mile only and
for in-premises stuff (like 1310nm LX from basement to 20th floor of an
office building).

The old archived emails I've found on the toughswitch problem was random
packetloss. But I remember someone had figured out more details, just
don't remember what they were and haven't found an email which contains the
discussion. I vaguely think it might have been load or pps related, but
before what you'd think was full load.

Re: [AFMUG] Toughswitch/low cost ethernet forwarding failure reminder?

2017-08-14 Thread Adam Moffett
Yeah, I was thinking I don't often see detailed descriptions of the
problems in firmware release notes for cheap hardware. Usually for
cheap stuff they just say "fixed potential crash" or something similarly
vague. I've also seen gibberish due to (I assume) translation issues.
I'm also betting most people buying a cheap switch aren't taking the
time to isolate a root cause of a lockup.

55G I hope. Depends on what they will require for winds there and the size of
the dish (and the height of the trees...)

$3,000 roughly without licensing or coordination, using their 35dBi dishes.
That covers both radios and high and low duplexers.

Personally, I would do WAPs at each locatin, you can use SXTs or nanobeams,
depending on your speed requirements, AC would be required why I love WAPs.
CAPSMAN at the main office and you are good :) Just my suggestion.

I need to extend backbone to a handful (9) of DSL remotes. Most of them have

So 100-250 Mbps is probably plenty of BW for now.

Hi guys,

We sent a radio to Dragonwave for repair. They’ve come back to say it is not
repairable. Here’s there message:
—-

Please note that we have received your unit(s) with the Serial number(s) :
C1N14DFD0004

We have been able to determine that we are unable to repair this/these unit(s),
due to water damage to internal components. The water leak occurred through the
inside of the connectors likely due to poor installation/handling or water
protection. This is not a manufacturing issue.

Please note that at this time it will be necessary for you to buy a replacement
unit if you require one.

Please advise if you would like us to return this unit to you or if you would
like us to dispose of it here.

Should you wish to have it disposed of at DragonWave, please indicate so via an
email.
—-

Knowing that the internal components suffered water damage, does anyone here,
or do any vendors on this list, think they would be able to fix it, such that I
should pay to have them ship it back to us?

Thanks,

Dave

If I want to get hands-on with some splicers, enclosures , splitters, cables,
and what-not; which trade show should I go to?

NFOC 2017 is very close to me and is next month. Is it worth the time?
