Good stuff. Had to add it to my beer rotation.

Slip joint monopole towers continue to slip down(settle) as the wind blows and
the heating of the cooling of the days and night expand and contract the metal.
They should have let this pole settle for a while before putting a climbing

have only been building towers for 20 years.

never mind, i guess this answers the question

Q: I have a drone and would like to use it to monitor my business, such as by
checking my roof. I won’t sell any pictures. Is this commercial use?

A: Yes. The FAA views any UAS (drone) operation that supports the functions of
your business as a non-recreational use. Curently, any non-recreational use of
an unmanned aircraft requires a Section 333 exemption from the Federal Aviation
Administration. Once the small UAS rule is in place, which should occur later
this year, you will then be able to operate commercially under the new
regulation.

pop is loosely defined.

That's how all the cell carriers see this playing out. LTE will be more

in .40 S Nice little hand gun and shoots well using 165 or 180 gr ammo,
readily available from WalMart or any other place that sells ammo. Slightly
more expensive than 9MM ammo, but only by a penny or two per round.

If you just want a pistol to conceal and carry, I would suggest the Glock 42
which I carry everyday. It isn't too big or heavy and will still do plenty of
damage in a self defense situation with hollow point ammo. It certainly doesn't
carry that much ammo, 7 total including one in chamber. But I'm not planning on
having a shootout with anyone.

I'm sure you'll hear from other guys who carry a 45 and open carry them with
extra mags. I'm not "that" guy who is a conservative, FOX loving republican,
gun nut who thinks Obama is out to steal our guns. If you honestly just want
something to protect you in most situation, stay smaller like 380 or 9mm but
not much bigger than that.

I've also carried the S Bodyguard 380 with built-in laser. It conceals even
better than the Glock does.

Re: [AFMUG] New feedback (Patrick Leary)

2015-03-04 Thread Jon Paul Kelley
I will beg to differ. The cellcos are constantly changing radios. My dealing
are with ATT and VZW. The old analog bays were swapped for CDMA(Verizon)
and TDMA(ATT) style radios. Completely different radio sets. Then LTE
launched. Verizon installed brand new Lucent LTE base stations. Now with
xLTE, the radios are changing again. Even within Verizon, they switched
manufacturers for the CDMA and PCS gear from Lucent to Nortel. Then back to
Lucent for LTE. They are constantly swapping radio systems.

I have been involved in network upgrades and radio installations for Verizon
and ATT for years. Not so much anymore. Hard to find good help and I don’t
feel like running the roads to install that stuff anymore.

I think it’s done all the time with the stuff the cellcos are deploying.
Probably limited only by antennas. No way are they changing out
basestations for every protocol or spectrum change like they did in the
past.

There are even systems where the software defined radio is remote in a
centralized datacenter, I think it’s called C-RAN.

Almost everybody who has an SDR sells you on the notion that it can be
upgraded later. Almost nobody ever actually does anything more than bug
fixes, or minor tweaks.

I think the only way Telrad might be odd with their SDR is that they
actually made different firmware to convert the unit from WiMax to a
completely different physical layer.

The only other big SDR change I can think of in the WISP marketplace was
Moto's transition from software scheduling to hardware scheduling. Maybe
some of you old men remember another incident to refute this statement, but
I think I'd say that having the ability to define the radio in software
doesn't mean they'll actually do it.

answer is No. Case closed.

Re: [AFMUG] PIM PIM Sala Bim

2014-11-19 Thread Jon Paul Kelley via Af
Actually, the cellular companies cause high PIM to themselves, in certain
circumstances. It has become more necessary to reduce the effects of high PIM
readings, as the new frequencies and higher data requirements have been
deployed. While installing 4G radios for Verizon Wireless, the requirements
changed and the use of PPC crimp connectors were mandated, as were PIM testing
all polyphaser to radio jumpers. Site installation times went from about 6
hours to 9 hours, in light of the new requirements, but I got to charge a lot
more money for the installations. J
