[AFMUG] Cambium Networks and Shellshock (CVE-2014-6271

2014-09-29 Thread Scott Imhoff via Af
All,

Cambium has posted a statement on Shellshock vulnerability on our support
website at http://www.cambiumnetworks.com/support/shellshock ; and copied
below.

Scott

Cambium Networks Devices Are Not Vulnerable to Shellshock
(CVE-2014-6271)
Since news of the virus called Shellshock
broke,
customers have asked if our products are secure. Our products are not
vulnerable to this latest attack on Linux platforms, which takes advantage of a
security flaw in bash, a specific command-line shell that we do not use:

PLATFORM STATUS
ePMP 1000 not impacted
PTP 250 not impacted
PTP 450 not impacted
PTP 500 not impacted
PTP 600 not impacted
PTP 650 not impacted
PTP 800 not impacted
PMP 100 not impacted
PMP 2xxnot impacted
PMP 320 not impacted
PMP 4xxnot impacted
CMM not impacted
C3VoIP not impacted

Our network managing
tools, CNS, WM, CNUT,
BAM and Prizm, are also not vulnerable and do not include an OS; they run on
customers' operating systems. Customers are advised to patch their operating
systems if they believe them to be susceptible after administering this
diagnostic test from Red Hat.

Re: [AFMUG] MTU on PTP650?

2014-10-21 Thread Scott Imhoff via Af
PTP 650 supports 9600 byte MTU and has been deployed in a number of MPLS
networks.

For something as expensive as the PTP650 I would be really surprised if it
couldn't handle 9000 byte MTU + extra MPLS header bytes for a carrier network.

Re: [AFMUG] ePMP PTP mode access point

2014-10-31 Thread Scott Imhoff via Af
Darin, et al,

Agree with your request.

Our intention is to enable ordering and delivery of the Force 110 PTP in
November with System Release 2.3.1; however, it will not at that time include
the latency optimization in PTP mode. PTP latency optimization is included in
System Release 2.4 which will be released in December. Note, if you do not
required the GigE connection the Force 110 with the integrated 25 dBi antenna
is orderable today and will begin commercial shipments in the very near-term if
not already from our distribution partners in North America.

More to follow in the near-term.

Best regards,

Scott

Hey guys,

I went back and looked at the emails about the ePMP PTP product and it includes
a 25 db dish and radio for about $200. The radio is said to be the $500 sync AP
with GPS disabled. Is there ANY way we can order the PTP radio now with GPS
disabled instead of waiting for December to roll around for shipping? Could we
use the Sync AP's we have and put on PTP firmware or something? Or can we order
the sync AP at the PTP price and have cambium disable GPS with firmware or
something?

Just looking forward to using them as backhaul radios since UBNT doesn't have
DFS open on any new AC products yet.

[AFMUG] Cambium Outlet - Who doesn't like a bargain?

2014-11-21 Thread Scott Imhoff via Af
All,

You may or may not have noticed but Cambium is trying a new concept on our web
site called "Cambium Outlet" to make available at substantial discount material
that we have in excess. The page can be viewed at:

http://www.cambiumnetworks.com/cambium-outlet

The list will be updated on a periodic basis, approximately every two to three
months, based on changes in part number inventory.

We welcome any suggestions to improve the page and process.

Happy hunting!

Scott

Sean,

Thanks for the constructive feedback. We are working on a couple of ideas that
align to your comments that you will hear more about in 2015. Fundamentally I
agree that keys should be portable but not an easy nut to crack; however, we
are working with that in mind.

My email address is
scott.imh...@cambiumnetworks.com<mailto:scott.imh...@cambiumnetworks.com> and
if you don’t mind I would like to hear more specifics on your experience with
variable pricing on the SMs ranging $20-$40 with each transaction – that
statement surprised me a bit.

dear cambium,

please just offer us one low price year round and stop with the speed keys for
SMs.

I live in NW CO where we can install APs and backhauls from May to Oct. The
rest of the year it's too snowy, icy and cold out to even try to get to our
towers, all of which are above 7,000 feet MSL and several are above 10,000 MSL.
a special price on APs or backhauls from Oct to May does me no good and I will
simply ignore your advertising attempts.

We install SMs year round. every time we go to purchase SMs (and we buy a lot)
the price changes $20-40 per SM. Please make this stop...I'd like to know my
costs are stable and not blowing in the wind so that i can get busy installing
more clients and therefore buying more SMs from you.

Also with regards to the license keys for the SMs, this is a huge extra cost
burden and the key is stuck to the device for eternity so i there for have to
constantly track which SM has which key and what plan the client is subscribed
to. When they cancel i have to set aside as special inventory all the keyed
SMs. So now we have to stock 900, 2.4 and 5.7 FSK, 5.4 430, and 5Ghz 450
20Mbps and unlimited...That's 6 different SMs to track and stock and a lot of
times the unlimited 450s that come back into inventory get mixed up and
redeployed to a client that only needs a 20Mbps key :-/ also we have to stock
and track the keys in the licensing portal so that we don't run out.

YOU ARE IN THE BUSINESS OF SELLING LIGHTBULBS (SMs)...SELL ME MORE SMs AND YOU
WILL MAKE MORE MONEY.

2 cents

-Sean
